yea the manual says to check oil every time you get gas so whenever I'm filling up i always grab a paper towel and check it gotta wait a little for the oil to settle in the oil pan though
@Gratz1333: I called Subaru and asked them about our oils (since there is so much different info on the web). The recommend FULL SYNTHETIC!! I am running 10w30 Castrol. They recommend 5W30, but my tuning shop told me since they go trough oil so quickly to go with a 10w30. Checked every week for the last 2months now and MAYBE last about 1/8 of oil:) Hope this can help some people out! Enjoy the car's guys :)
PS: Hard nock is the cause of low/no oil. CHECK YOU oil levels people!!! :) I know someone already mentioned this, i figured lets tell everyone again :)
@TheSubydude227 You may wanna come up with a more believable lie then my turbo engine has never lost a drop of oil. Remember, a key to a good lie is it MUST be believable . My turbo has never lost enough oil to need a top off is probablly too far. I rarely need to top off. Well that's better. Not a drop of oil? Yeah complete BS.
It is like the guy in the vid says, rod know. All Subaru's come extremely lean from the factory to pass emission test (That is why we all pay big cash to have lean engines, right!?). It is under warranty (60.000miles or 5year) Did they fix it by now? Nice car :)
@anACEmw2player The knock doesn't only happen with forged pistons. He spun a rod bearing. Besides, after forged pistons warm up A LOT (as in not with normal driving) they don't slap.
I said bye bye to my engine couple of weeks ago also LOL, all of a sudden i heard a krkrkrkrk when cruising i'm like FUCK ME..... the bearings are fucked but luckily i'm waiting on my new engine. I work at the dealer so my problem got sorted out quickly, Subaru had to change their entire engine assembly process to solve this problem permanently.
Still love my WRX and won't change it for anything else, an engine is an engine and things can go wrong sometimes.

@ladygodia a guy had some of those on ebay a while back, not sure if they were the right ones for the EJ motor or the 6 Cyl. Claims he shipped them in from the year 2310 or something, hope this helps :-)
Drive it like a douchenozzle, fix it like a douchenozzle! Serves the moron right. A well engineered car reduced to teenagers doing donuts in a parking lot. Moron should have bought a Civic.
MY CAR SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THIS. THE MECHANIC SAID IT IS THE MAIN BEARING, HOWEVER I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT FOR 30,000 + KM'S. I DRIVE IT HARD AND FAST SOMETIMES AND IT IS NOT GETTING WORSE. I HAVE DONE A BEARING BEFORE AND THE NOISE WAS WAY WORSE. WOULD A CAR DO 30,000 KM WITH A BROKEN CRANKSHAFT BEARING . DON'T WANT TO REBUILD OR LET A MECHANIC TOUCH MY ENGINE IF NOT NECESSARY.
@nick081980 when a main bearing is gone you don't get very far before the engine is completely done, maybe 40 km if your lucky. if you have a simular noise and have driven it that far there are many other things that can cause a similar sound, I suggest getting a better mechanic, also if you drop your oil and there is silver in it then you likely have a bearing on the way out, if not then your noise is some thing else.

its funny that almost every fucking video on here when people blow their shit claim to put the best things they can come up with in the car after to not make them selves look like a faggot
yeah, thats a rod knock.... so lets just keep on running it and revving it some more so we can send shit loads of bearing material through the engine, when shutting it off instantly could possibly spare the crank from damage beyond repair...
@partywithJdub no they do this if you don't pay attention to the oil level. these cars are designed to be driven hard, and there is nothing wrong with making a car faster as long as you have a good tuner.
@ORIANA250 Both you guys are right -- piston rings start to fail, oil consumption goes up, and if you don't control it often, you get rod slap and dead. My Subu just died last night ... (I mainly just race mine) ... lost of compression after going off WOT racing ... (had compression issue, hard driving just murdered it). Stock guts lasted for a while on an aggressive tune. Time for sleeves and forged goodies! ;-)
@ORIANA250 These cars are indeed built to tolerate a fairly rough ride, but an engine is an engine. Driving these cars like they were meant to be is expensive, as you can see. Its a machine, and Subaru doesn't have any special powers to make there engines no better than any of the other auto giants. these cars are also designed to be driven in this manner and the way the car was driven in the video had nothing to do with the failure, the engine could have failed idling in traffic the next day because it was that low on oil.
These cars are very reliable and very capable, this is just an unfortuneate event that happened to the owner, he was unaware that he was suppose to check his oil on a regular basis and the oil was to low at the happening of the engine failure, this was a brand new car at the time with a few minor mods, how many people check there oil on a regular basis with a brand new car. It was an expensive mistake that led to the owner building it with forged internal and a big turbo. it is now a monster.
@y9pema This really isn't abuse. These cars were built to do that kind of stuff. This year of that bolt did have a flaw though. There was a recall of some sort because thousands of people were getting rod knocks.
Every motor can blow no matter what, when abused or the combination of no oil and abuse. WTF you want from it? Some even go for no reason at all, at least this one was being punished so it has something to show for it.
the problem with the EJ25 is the pcv system is designed to fail. unfortunately these engines consume oil ESPECIALLY new ones. mine hand built by my self used to DEVOUR oil. 6000 miles later its subsided. but also keeping in mind they come with hardened H bearings from the factory and are NOT NOT NOT tolerable to oil staravation. especially since the tolerances between the bearing and crank journal are only .017
i tihink you are retarded you douchebag: THIS--------------->
is because you're are watching a subaru engine blow up video. if u're watching dodge, or audi, or ferrari, or mitsubishi, or bmw, or toyota, or ford, or what ever, engine failure videos, THERE-------------->
there appear related videos of the manufacturer, may be, some most viewed.
how many subarus you owned? how many blew up?
i own my third scooby with ej engine, and they are reliable...
TWO...a wrx and a legacy. BOTH had motors go. The rex completely nuked itself......the Legacy had 3 headgasket jobs in 140K miles. I traded it on the third failure (3 strikes youre out).
@pressrolls There is a big difference between wrx and wrx sti which this was. if you had the head gaskets done that many times, they obviosly don't have a clue what they are doing, not only that but I would have upgraded them first time around along with ARP head studs.
Why dont you TAKE 2 MINUTES AND GOOGLE SUBARU HEADGASKET PROBLEM ....THERES HUNDREDS OF HITS FOR THE >THOUSANDS< OF AFFECTED SUBARU CUSTOMERS WHO WERE FUCKED BY SCREWBARU.
They are the most UNSATISFIED owners according to JD Powers and Consumer Reports.....you are either a Subaru Employee doing "damage control" on the Internet or somebody who has NEVER OWNED a subaru.
@pressrolls That is y I said upgrade the gaskets and upgrade to arp head studs. + to my knowledge the sti did not have this issue, I am not a sub employee and I would not own one they are not my taste in cars but they are cool and different, my buddy own's one has not had an issue with head gaskets but it is an sti.
There are 7+ revisions to the headgaskets including a multilayer steel version. None ever solved the ongoing headgasket issues. The reason the WRX/STi has less problems in this area is that they have "semi closed" engine decks. The rest of the EJ boxer motors (outback Forester etc) have OPEN deck engines. The sleeved cylinders are "islands" that move and leak. Subaru knows this. They created a motor that JUST makes it through the powertrain warranty. Then youre on your own.
My EJ22 in my old Legacy made it up to 230K+ before I got rid of it. Ran like a top. The current Legacy that I have was neglected by it's previous owner & that's why it's in the condition it's in now as proof that mistreating a Subaru will land it in bad condition. They're like all the other Japanese giants; reliable, smooth, & intense. Btw, WRXs don't have 'distributors', they have coil packs.
Hey man, full truth. The Legacy was for the real estate business (our company car). I bought the WRX a year later, trading in an Infiniti for it...... I thought Subaru was going to be my brand..... I was wrong. Both cars had more trips to the dealer on a flat bed than any car I have driven 35+ years. I knew I was fucked with the WRX when I got a check engine light the first afternoon of ownership. Back to the dealer to replace a defective distributor, day 1.... No more Subarus.
Believe what you want junior, its the truth. If I can save one person from the Hell of Subaru ownwership - If I can keep even one person from giving another dollar to the liars at Subaru North America, Ive done my job. Screwbaru has fucked thousands of owners.
LOL......no, my Speed3 and Mazada3 are both just fine thank you. Almost 4 years of high miles on the Speed3 and its never been to the dealer yet for any repairs. Just tires and brakes. Far better cars than the Subarus. (RELIABLE). The WRX drove like a loose bloated pickup truck, and made just as many noises over bumps too....the Speed3 is a fighter jet by comparison. Night and day.
@pressrolls mayb for the open deck blocks but i have a 97 wrx standard and have 150000km on 22psi and still no issues with core motor they are made to go hard and they do as long as u look after them
Are you damn dense? Subaru makes some of the damn best engines on the face of the planet for the price. Period. Guess you never heard of the 'bulletproof' EJ22 or the practically indestructible EJ20. The most 'unsatisfied' customers? Not one other brand has as many parts interchangeable between it's models as Subaru does, which happens to be LOADS of fun for it's fans who have mechanical skill. There are many Subarus than not with hundreds of thousands of miles on them that run excellently.
what the fuck you people care , if he wants to burn his ride let him . his ride his money . by the way Subaru is not garbage they are one of few that are still made in japan not like piece of shit american crap that's made in Mexico. fuckin moron
@TheRusty26 how is it "American crap" if it's made in Mexico? I'd say it's Mexican crap.. regardless of brand. I love my Subaru!! bullet prof motors for the most part... Head gaskets are typically the prob with Subaru motors.. but if ya do the maintenance on them.. the will run 400k no problem! I have never junked one.. always parted them out and sold off the pieces.. people want their Subaru's to last forever... beat on anything.. eventually it will die.
@guyd37 How about you go gargle some more cum you faggot. I told you I will follow your ass everywhere you go to talk shit on subaru's and I will get in your face. You can clearly see what happened as the owner of the car explains above and yet you keep on this shit. this was a limited issue from subaru that they fixed with a recall. Now shut the fuck up cock sucker.
@fourseasonsandles is correct, you spun the bearing. best way to find out for sure is to check your oil for glitter, ive had a subie and an oldsmoblie bravada that did the same thing with the same noise. if you have'nt found out the problem yet here ya go. rod bearings
@akabane1984 Different model car. Completely different engine and the GR Subarus are known for spinning rod bearings. You, my friend, are retarded for thinking just because it is a Subaru, all things are equal.
That said, the owner of that vehicle is a god damn moron for treating his car like that and not checking his oil. It indicates right in the STI service manual to check your oil at every gas fill up.
If you do the same thing this guy did.. u will probably have one...
the issue with subarus is oil starvation.. specially while cornering
to solve this issue u have to change the stock bearings, get a oil baffle tray+good oil+oil coller so the oil will keep up if u have a 8k red line ej20 engine..
Its a Subaru, they all get rod knock because they are garbage. They where never intended for racing, EVER. Sell it and get a EVO, 1. they sound better and 2. LAST FOREVER.
@RichRusso4218 eEH look "ITS A FAN BOY" fan boys like you are garbage, know nothing about car and racing, the only thing you know is "get a EVO, 1. they sound better and 2. LAST FOREVER" since you have no knowledge for cars, don't even try cause you sound Stupid!!!
@buddyclubs Lmao, look at your spelling and re-read your statement. It makes no sense, just like a Subaru. They blow up all the time, sieze, knock. The only reason they are so popular is because they are cheap and kids don't understand what a real car is.
@RichRusso4218 Yeah subaru's cheap but you drive a DSM eclipse, i though you had it big with your words?what happen to your real car? don't tell me your eclipse is a real car! lolz
@RichRusso4218 Subaru's run forever. I had a 2002 Outback that is now with my brother at 145,000 miles. My 2004 WRX is at 97,000 miles with only routine maintenance being done.
It is idiots like this who as the uploaded said didn't check the oil, cause when mommy and daddy pay for your shit you don't have to take care of it. Not everyone is a Subaru Fanboy like the asshole in the video. I love my Subie and use it on the dirt, like a Subie should be.
good luck explaining all that to subaru's warranty dept. even though it was a factory default, i don't know if they will warrant that engine with all that shit done to it.
Why is everyone acting like he has something more than a slightly faster than normal car? It's a Subaru people, not an Enzo.
I'm just impressed at how quickly his friends picked up that his engine was broke considering they sound like garbage disposal when they are working correctly.
Well, some people love their cars, regardless of what they are. I don't think you should trample on that.
And besides, I'm sure there's many Subaru owners that love their Subaru. And anyone who thinks that a "cheap" brand can never be fast is stupid, because anything can be made fast, even a barstool.
However, I won't argue with the sound of a Subaru, lol...
he had an oil change a month earlier and he never checked the oil, it went low and starved the engine of oil. subaru has a recall for oil consumption issues.
@ORIANA250 How can a car company issue a recall for cars on which people take no notice of their oil levels! Don't be silly. It is the responsibility of the owner and/or driver to check fluid levels.
It also doesn't help allowing a total idiot to abuse the car as shown in the video. Subaru engines are very weak and doing that damages them. They are a glorified VW beetle engine, basic in design and easy to rebuild when the owners keep breaking them!
@urbex2007 easy to rebuild?? i think not. if your car burns a quart of oil in 1000 miles there isnt a problem?? and if everyonea sti is burning oil its still the buyers fault?> lol
Sounds like a diesel engine now...........

TWO...a wrx and a legacy. BOTH had motors go. The rex completely nuked itself......the Legacy had 3 headgasket jobs in 140K miles. I traded it on the third failure (3 strikes youre out).
Friends dont let friends drive Subarus. Junk.
pressrolls 1 year ago 5
@pressrolls There is a big difference between wrx and wrx sti which this was. if you had the head gaskets done that many times, they obviosly don't have a clue what they are doing, not only that but I would have upgraded them first time around along with ARP head studs.
ORIANA250 1 year ago
@pressrolls
2 Subarus? And both died? I bet that it is the truth.
according to statistics, subarus are reliable and have the most satisfied owners and dealers...
therefore: advise your friends to buy a subaru.
the truth is: if you have a turbo engine, you have to use it properly, especially if it's tuned.
Speedless73 1 year ago
@Speedless73
Are you guys part of some brainwashed cult?
Why dont you TAKE 2 MINUTES AND GOOGLE SUBARU HEADGASKET PROBLEM ....THERES HUNDREDS OF HITS FOR THE >THOUSANDS< OF AFFECTED SUBARU CUSTOMERS WHO WERE FUCKED BY SCREWBARU.
They are the most UNSATISFIED owners according to JD Powers and Consumer Reports.....you are either a Subaru Employee doing "damage control" on the Internet or somebody who has NEVER OWNED a subaru.
They are JUNK JUNK JUNK! ...SHAME OF JAPAN!
pressrolls 1 year ago 3
@pressrolls That is y I said upgrade the gaskets and upgrade to arp head studs. + to my knowledge the sti did not have this issue, I am not a sub employee and I would not own one they are not my taste in cars but they are cool and different, my buddy own's one has not had an issue with head gaskets but it is an sti.
check out my other videos I have posted.
ORIANA250 1 year ago
@ORIANA250

@Speedless73

Speedless73 1 year ago
@Speedless73
Night and day.

adamsfamily0985 8 months ago
Are you damn dense? Subaru makes some of the damn best engines on the face of the planet for the price. Period. Guess you never heard of the 'bulletproof' EJ22 or the practically indestructible EJ20. The most 'unsatisfied' customers? Not one other brand has as many parts interchangeable between it's models as Subaru does, which happens to be LOADS of fun for it's fans who have mechanical skill. There are many Subarus than not with hundreds of thousands of miles on them that run excellently.

HOW DARE YOU LET UR STI DO THIS
chrisios 1 year ago
what the fuck you people care , if he wants to burn his ride let him . his ride his money . by the way Subaru is not garbage they are one of few that are still made in japan not like piece of shit american crap that's made in Mexico. fuckin moron
TheRusty26 1 year ago
@TheRusty26 how is it "American crap" if it's made in Mexico? I'd say it's Mexican crap.. regardless of brand. I love my Subaru!! bullet prof motors for the most part... Head gaskets are typically the prob with Subaru motors.. but if ya do the maintenance on them.. the will run 400k no problem! I have never junked one.. always parted them out and sold off the pieces.. people want their Subaru's to last forever... beat on anything.. eventually it will die.

Now shut the fuck up cock sucker.

jakubgt1 1 year ago
@fourseasonsandles is correct, you spun the bearing. best way to find out for sure is to check your oil for glitter, ive had a subie and an oldsmoblie bravada that did the same thing with the same noise. if you have'nt found out the problem yet here ya go. rod bearings
snipingghost90 1 year ago
@akabane1984 Different model car. Completely different engine and the GR Subarus are known for spinning rod bearings. You, my friend, are retarded for thinking just because it is a Subaru, all things are equal.
That said, the owner of that vehicle is a god damn moron for treating his car like that and not checking his oil. It indicates right in the STI service manual to check your oil at every gas fill up.
fourseasonsandles 1 year ago
@akabane1984
If you do the same thing this guy did.. u will probably have one...
the issue with subarus is oil starvation.. specially while cornering
to solve this issue u have to change the stock bearings, get a oil baffle tray+good oil+oil coller so the oil will keep up if u have a 8k red line ej20 engine..
christophersaa 1 year ago
Its a Subaru, they all get rod knock because they are garbage. They where never intended for racing, EVER. Sell it and get a EVO, 1. they sound better and 2. LAST FOREVER.
RichRusso4218 1 year ago
@RichRusso4218 eEH look "ITS A FAN BOY" fan boys like you are garbage, know nothing about car and racing, the only thing you know is "get a EVO, 1. they sound better and 2. LAST FOREVER" since you have no knowledge for cars, don't even try cause you sound Stupid!!!
buddyclubs 1 year ago
@buddyclubs Lmao, look at your spelling and re-read your statement. It makes no sense, just like a Subaru. They blow up all the time, sieze, knock. The only reason they are so popular is because they are cheap and kids don't understand what a real car is.
RichRusso4218 1 year ago
@RichRusso4218 Yeah subaru's cheap but you drive a DSM eclipse, i though you had it big with your words?what happen to your real car? don't tell me your eclipse is a real car! lolz
buddyclubs 1 year ago
@RichRusso4218 Subaru's run forever. I had a 2002 Outback that is now with my brother at 145,000 miles. My 2004 WRX is at 97,000 miles with only routine maintenance being done.
It is idiots like this who as the uploaded said didn't check the oil, cause when mommy and daddy pay for your shit you don't have to take care of it. Not everyone is a Subaru Fanboy like the asshole in the video. I love my Subie and use it on the dirt, like a Subie should be.

Why is everyone acting like he has something more than a slightly faster than normal car? It's a Subaru people, not an Enzo.
I'm just impressed at how quickly his friends picked up that his engine was broke considering they sound like garbage disposal when they are working correctly.
Bavarianmotorwerks 2 years ago
Well, some people love their cars, regardless of what they are. I don't think you should trample on that.
And besides, I'm sure there's many Subaru owners that love their Subaru. And anyone who thinks that a "cheap" brand can never be fast is stupid, because anything can be made fast, even a barstool.
However, I won't argue with the sound of a Subaru, lol...

he had an oil change a month earlier and he never checked the oil, it went low and starved the engine of oil. subaru has a recall for oil consumption issues.
ORIANA250 2 years ago
I work at a subaru dealer and I haven't heard of any recalls for oil consumption for any subaru's..
ls1maro99 2 years ago
Thank goodness I check my oil religiously. I drive my Subaru Outback hard, so I find it necessary to check my fluid levels often.
That WRX owner should have done the same. Hope all went well with that WRX!
AWDfreak 2 years ago
@ORIANA250 what dont they have a recall for lol
PrimeTimeGrimester 1 year ago
@ORIANA250 How can a car company issue a recall for cars on which people take no notice of their oil levels! Don't be silly. It is the responsibility of the owner and/or driver to check fluid levels.
It also doesn't help allowing a total idiot to abuse the car as shown in the video. Subaru engines are very weak and doing that damages them. They are a glorified VW beetle engine, basic in design and easy to rebuild when the owners keep breaking them!
Have a bit of respect for cars.
