How can I practice my false cord more when I'm so bad at controlling it that it hurts my vocal cords? It makes practice impossible unless I want to deal with my voice being fucked up. I'm a natural baritone but I speak in a higher pitch head voice and I fry a lot, which my friend says probably puts extra stress on my cords.

lol dumbass, if you can't scream without a mic altering your voice then don't be a stupid wannabe by cupping it. Learn to scream normally and use the mic to project your voice further not using the mic to alter your voice. Go right now and listen to I cum blood. That's real screaming, he's never altered his voice in any way. Stop teaching kids to be talentless losers, teach them to be actually able to scream and not rely on effects or cupping to change their voice.

@dobolyu11 stop for a few days, only do about 10-15 minutes (a day) and play around with stuff, you have to learn to be gentle with your throat this comes with practice, and I don't mean holding back, I can be careful and maintain consistency for even a few hours now you just have to get the feel for it first. If it hurts, STOP and take a break drink lots of water, also eatin some honey works wonders. Vocal cords are fragile

u r teaching everyone bad technique, never cup to help your screaming, absolutely worst thing to show anyone. it ruins the technique and its not truly u screaming. properly scream without it is the way to show pple. true screaming is all from the diaphragm. dont cup to lower your vocals, never ever cup a mic

@lorak613 i agree about the fact that you don't need to cup for a solid scream, but if you certainly do it, it can sound even better. learning to sing and scream properly without a mic goes first, but it's not a waste of time to learn to properly use a mic. you can make hundreds of amazing sounds with a mic, different angles, different cups and distances can take a good sound to a better sound. metal born with the experimentation of new extreme sounds, and that experimentation should never stop.

Tdwp and asking Alexandria are both powerful fry screaming bands -.- their screams are highly powerful and do not sound like drys but they are, Danny of aa said that he couldn't false chord because he couldn't do it without hurting his vocals

I don't understand the whole false cord thing. I've seen pictures and all of that. But what exactly, do you do in order to "activate" the false chords?

I've heard on Melissa Cross's videos that you make that sound like Marge Simpson, where it is like a high pitched and low pitched tone at once.

But from there, I can't scream that.

Here are some tips. Stand up when you are screaming. It allows better diaphram usage and will just let you drive that scream out like it shout be. Warm up your voice too. Screaming is like really aggressive singing, you still need to warm up the vocal chords to scream. Also screaming takes passion for music and for vocals, so it's not for everyone. Good luck.

For the best result, drink warm, BOILED water. Tastes better, contains less than half of the bacteria that tap water inevitably carries along. Just make sure it's chilled enough so that you won't burn your mouth, of course.
