I just watched the video of the steam engine with the 90^ out of phase cyl. moving this trailer. Now you have a tractor to do it. I am confused by all of the spinning parts. But I wanted to ask why the caption said the steam engine did not have torque? Is it because of the short stroke?
@madwilliamflint , thanks for the positive comment. I use this thing mostly to move a 14 ft trailer around with an extension ladder attached to trim the trees in my yard. Later, Rick.
For a homemade tractor of that size it can really haul seeing the size of the trailer and load, all thanks to gear reduction. Excellent craftmanship! Except for one tiiiiiiiny little mistake: Your trailer should be hooked to the tractor below the centerpoint of your axle, that way you reduce the chance of lifting the front wheels up and use less weight in the front, but it wouldn't be possible with that trailer. Just trying to help out. Once again, excellent work.
@ProjectFanatic , sometimes you gotta put the hitch the same height as the bumper on your truck to get the trailer to pull correctly. These small tractors are just not massive enough to handle the loaded trailer. I was just "show doggin" a little bit. The thing pulls the yard sweeper, aerator, and the pop-up camper just fine. Thank you so much for the kind comments.
