Hello jwsportscars, what did you use to get the under carrige bare metal before you under coated? I have my 72 at this point and I'm stuck! Thank you.
THE INSIDE WAS LEFT, BECAUSE IT WILL BE PAINTED WITH INTERIOR BEING FINISHED, AND THE UNDERCOATING WAS DONE TO PROTECT THE METAL AS WELL AS A SOUND DEADENER, OLD 240Z HORRIBLE WITH ROAD NOISE, THIS HELP LESSEN THE ROAD NOISE.
@jwsportcars OK EVERYONE, WE HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD IN THIS CONTEST, NOW FOR THE FINAL PUSH, GO TO ROCKFORD FOSGATE.COM, CLICK ON VOTE TAB, THEN FILL OUT NAME AND EMAIL, THEN "NO" ALL ENTRIES, BUT CLICK "YESSSS" ON ENTRY #22 TITLE BRENT HUNTER, THEN CLICK SUBMIT AT BOTTOM, WHEN DONE RIGHT IT WILL THANK YOU FOR VOTING, THANKS ALL WHO HAVE VOTED, AND TO THOSE WHO STILL DO, HELP GIVE THE LAST PUSH TO THE TOP OF THIS CONTEST, MORE VIDS WILL FOLLOW JAMES@JWSC
Nice work, James! I have a couple questions for you: Since you went through all the trouble of taking the car all the way down to the shell, why not paint over the old original safari gold color that was left in the interior? Also, since the 240Zs didn't come from the factory with undercoating on the bottom of the car, why was this done?

Not much of a restoration if the car has no rust. Would have been worthy of being called a restoration if you had to replace the frame rails, floors, rocker panels, battery tray area, dog legs, rear hatch panel & lower door panels. You know like most of the Z's out there. Nothing like stripping a mint Z down for nothing.
Hey man he just got lucky with a great base for his restoration. Just because you might have a rusty Z doesn't make it more worthy of being a better resto project that's just plain dumb.
yes because after 40 years there is absolutely no way that the suspension is worn out, or the wiring frayed and brittle at best, shorted out on average, and corroded at worst. also there is no way that the differential ran out of fluid or the diff gears worn down. Pretty sure after 40 years the interior is like new and the shocks still hold pressure. People Don't purposely look for rusted out buckets of scrap metal for a "restoration" project.
Ahh reminds me so much of me and me dad's project. '73 240z, which is getting a 350 sb, racing suspension and brakes, complete with a racing fuel cell and dual exhaust to finish it off. The only obstacle is money...which turns into time.
I'd love to get a vid with every step of a 240z restoration, I'm looking into finding a cheap one to restore myself... but I really don't know where to start haha.
We're so deep in ours, moneys a tight issue, but we love it. Pretty much everyone you will find is going to be good to start on. What you don't want is rust, but honestly, these cars arrived in the U.S. rusty, the undercoating wasn't perfect, and it rusted on the cargo ship over here. Good luck your search though, make something cool!
looks like you started off what seem to be an already very good shape body. is this going to be a true restoration or a fix-up with more updated parts?
Since you actually have a narrating cast in this (unlike my 240z-videos) you should let the music fade out before (or meanwhile) you start talking. Gives a more professional feeling.
Either turn it off, or switch to something instrumental/ambient and turn the volume down a notch. The metal/music kinda gets in the way now.
Lol this is not cable TV! This guy is doing a great job on these cars & makes great videos. Your the one who clicked on his video, go watch Unique Whips are something if that's what you want. This guy is raw & all of his videos are great, give credit when credit is due.
Yeah, I clicked it. So what? Little did I know that the narration would be obliterated by music. I used to do editing work for a living and supplied a pointer to help out. In retrospect, my comment may have come off as whining - which wasn't my original intention. I just thought; What's the point of having a narrator if one can barely pick up what he's saying?
I'm not here to argue with you either, its just to people like me who actually come here to listen & learn. We don't look at the small things like music & narration. We look at the great job he is doing on these cars.
Good work, I like seeing classic sports cars getting restored. I'm restoring a 73 myself, I'll make sure to keep an eye on this build for ideas and inspiration.
@jwsportcars Hey mate ive been keen to start bare shell on one of these suckers. What are they like in terms of Engine bay space? I want to put a 2jz gte into one. I am guessing the tranny tunnel would need modifying? Nice car by the way mate.

Wow, the car is straight as an arrow, did it have some caring owners or did your team put in a lot of late nights?

What motor is going into it S20 or RB motor?
What is the body going to look like a 240ZG, Z432 or just like an original standard Z?
I was pretty keen to see the updates here are you still filming?
