I was just a kid, but this was when music did me in. From then on (probably sooner, music was in my soul. This is sooo lovely. Luv it. Simply and beautiful. :) Thank You for posting!
One of THE great voices of ALL time, any genre. No moaning, no garbling, never misses a syllable. As pure as a hammer hitting a bell. God bless and keep you, Bobby Helms. Every father sings this as an anthem to every daughter.
I work in a nursing home and this reminds me of a couple in the alzheimer's unit that have been married for almost 70 years. He can't talk because he had a stroke but he gives her a kiss every morning and on their 68th wedding anniversary he wrote on a piece of paper: happy anniversary, i love you.
Its a great version though it wasn't played in the UK as back then any song that mentioned The Lord or God wasn't allowed unless it was a hymn. The UK version by Malcolm Vaughan had the lyrics amended.
My girlfriend and I used to sit and listen to this song, she was my special angel, and I eventually married her. We were married 35 years till I lost her April 7th 2011. She may be gone but she will always be "My Special Angel".
Yes italiankaren, we're all praying for Timothy along with all of our Soldiers, that The LORD will continue to watch over "All of them!" Also Happy :-) Birthday from me, Bobby!!
Too good to be forgotten where life was so sweet and simple. Though it was not my era it was still played on the airwaves during my childhood years during a Sunday mellow afternoon.
It was my 17th birthday .... You brought me plastic flowers (that I am sure you stole) and you sang this to me .... It was my very special moment .... Do you remember you sang it to me again on my 48th ..... Love it always ....
This song has always been my song to my son - - I always used to play it with him and for him when he was little. He is the special angel sent to me from the Lord. He is 24 now and in Iraq - - hope everyone will pray for him. His name is Timothy
@italiankaren Timothy and your family are on prayer list. Please thank Timothy for his service to our country and by extension to all people of good will.
Never dared to karaoke but on a dare I sang this to my wife to be....had her after the first verse. Hit every note....man I loved this song! On the same level with The Chantels "Maybe", and Tammy Wynette's "Till I can Make IT On My Own", Otis's "Try a Little Tenderness", Jerry, "The Ice Man" Butler's "For Your Precious Love". Music, the universal equalizer....Ahhhh
Here is an unrecognized beautiful voice. He sings correctly. Everything in him is relaxed and, lets the air to the work.. I first thought he sounded like someone else, why don't I know this man because it is SO familiar. If you listen to Patsy Cline's early recordings, she hasn't yet created her signature style. At times, I think I hear Patsy, and he came out a decade before her. I studied Patsy's voice formally in vocal lessons for ten years. This guy should be credited for his talent.
My daddy was a DJ that used to play all kinds of oldies like these. He unfortunately passed away because of cancer when I was only 3. And during one of his radio shows he played this song and said that it was for his baby girl at home... me. I never really got a chance to know him and I never got to tell him how much he meant to me. Including the little things he would do for me like that. But now, he is my special angel, up above watching over me and my mom everyday.
Sorry for being another person going on about 'Mad Men' bringing me here although it's true. I'm glad the producers chose this song, because it was a good period piece for the set, but as one of the other commenter's said it is such a poignant love song and a great discovery.
this was my parent's favorite song. even as a not-too-observant kid, i can recall the long, intense looks mom & dad exchanged whenever this song played.
I was listening to this song when my son called to tell me the baby he & his girlfriend were expecting was a boy!! So, I decided this would be my grandson Ivan's song! For you Ivan, with lots of love, from Mamu!
My Mother and her brother used to sign on the same radio show with Bobby and Freddie back in the early 50's. She always called him "her boyfriend". Mom settled down with a family and her brother went on the record in Nashville with a new group but I always think of mom when I here Special Angel and Jingle Bell Rock.
Thanks for uploading the original version. All the other videos with this version have been removed, except for one. This is the one that has the best quality. It does sound a bit slower than I remember, but it's from an old record, so that's probably why. I hope this video stays up for a while. Again, thanks for uploading.
