Great video. I just got my MFA last year and while you totally captured the surface of the show, nothing compares to the misery felt knowing the buyers hate your stuff. Or if your stuff is unsalable. The Academy made me and a lot of people a tough ass artist. And being totally adverse to leaving the studio or talking about my work, made great friends despite my messed up demeanor. Best part was owning the final review! POW! Worth the two years of sleepless nights.
That's hilarious. I painted one of those urinals. The people who came in to use the restroom while I was in there actually took it all in stride. Art school-painters-urinal....why not.
I really loved this movie. The one guy who prevented a suicide, then later the other guy who committed suicide--somehow, the way you arranged this info in the movie was very poignant to me. I also found it interesting how some of the artists clearly liked narrator John immensely, while some of the interview subjects seemed unnerved and wanted to escape, but either way, the narrator John remained unflappably cheerful and good natured. I hope that the elusive Ben sees this sometime...
With the PAFA Fellowship board, I once had an evening and dinner with Gregory Gillespie. What a great guy to get to know, if very briefly. I think it was 1994.

Great artists certainly have gone through the school.

"I won 29 years ago" , I won 29 years ago" I won 29 years ago. + the women looked genuinely frightened of this man.

Great video John. The academy should use these for marketing. If they only knew how to market themselves properly.
