Im 17, and its enfuriating that no one my age knows who Angela Lansbury is. I absolutely adore her. Shes such a phenomenal actress, Im stunned every time I see her in a different role.
It does seem wrong and i agree she should be. However as Angela became an American Citizen in the 1950's that effectively renounced her British Citizenship with regards to Damehoods etc. Occasionally an Honourary CBE will be given to a non British Professional which Angela has received. Ironically Elizabeth Taylor was granted the title of Dame even tho her parents are American and she lived in the UK for only a short time.
Liz Taylor was honoured with the title as she was born on British Soil to American parents and therefore has dual Citizenship. Irrespective of whether Angela has become an American Citizen she is still British and i feel should be Damed but historically it is unlikely. When Anthony Hopkins became an American Citizen after being Knighted there were calls for his Knighthood to be revoked as it was seen that he had turned his back on his Country...its nonsense but there you go...
@palijim Yes, she should certainly be a Dame. I wonder if she's been overlooked due to her becoming a naturalised US citizen over 50 years ago & hasn't lived in the UK (& therefore not paid UK taxes) for over 70 years. I don't think it means she's ineligible but it will take longer. On the other hand, coming from a strongly left wing background in UK politics she may have been offered it & declined, notwithstanding her CBE. (Helen Mirren rejected a CBE but later accepted a damehood).
She said she would love to do a Murder, She Wrote movie.
But you know what, I think they should make it for the big screen. I have always wanted to see the adventures of J.B Fletcher up on the silver screen.
It's so great to see young fans who are so well-rounded and see the grace and beauty of classics and such icons as Angela Landsbury...I recommend you watch 'Picture of Dorian Gray'...You'll like her performance in it - She sings...
I just LOVE Angela. Im 15 and i was about 7 when i saw her first in mrs santa claus. From then she has been my idol. I LOVE LOVE LOVE her xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Im only 19, but i am a massive admirer of Angela Lansbury. she has had an EXTRAORDINARY career and life, shes worked with everyone from Judy Garland, Bette Davis ,Elvis, Julie Andrews etc..i hope she puts out an autobiography as i would sooo love to read it. Angela - A living legend.
Ahhhh! I first saw Lansbury in "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" when I was about 11. Later I saw her on "Murder She Wrote." She has always been gorgeous and a totally perfect professional in her craft.
Interesting that this lovely creature has 'aged' in such a way that her beauty, warmth and comeliness are reflected still in a mature and very attractive presence. She is truly blessed and may she be with us eternally...
I'm watching Murder, She wrote at the moment (as well as being on YouTube) can't stop watching the program although i'm not even 15. It's one of my favorite progams!
To begin a career at age 18 surrounded by the very best of that generation had to awesome. Movies aren't made like that anymore. What a shame. We could do with some Class and excellent writing again.

i am 13 she is my fav actress of ALL TIME my inspiration for acting, i got her autograph by mail, but unfortuantly angela will most likely be close to death by the time we could meet her *cry* my mom is form NY and saw her in Sweeney todd when she dies i will cry and not go to school, DONT DIE ANGELA WE LUV U!!!
Thanks for uploading this interesting interview. I love Angela. I didn't know she received an oscar nomination for her first film. Of course she deserves it. :)
Very interesting interview. You would never know Angela wasn't a Brit. in some of her movies. The cockney she uses in Gaslight is on the money. Very recognizable voice. Thanks.
This is such an awesome movie. All did a great job, but I think Charles Boyer was the standout in this, evil as he was. He's hilarious in Barefoot in the Park. Very versatile, having seen him in other roles too. Great actor. Gaslight, one of my very favs. Thanks so much for posting.
I was a teen when I first saw "Gaslight" on TV - I watched because I was a huge fan of Ingrid Bergman, and really liked Charles Boyer. I love the movie, I love their performances, but I also was captivated by the character that Angela Lansbury played - I remembered her from that performance as I later watched her in "...Dorian Gray" and "Harvey Girls" and then in contemporary films and the rest of her career.
Ms. Lansbury is one of the sexiest women alive. Wow what a hottie.
I'm in love.

Angela is a terrible actress, but her early wok was excellent, and her musical theatre is simply the best. Just a specialized type of actress.
