  • I think Art adds feel to the song.

  • VOLUUUUUMEEEEE!! This is my favorite version and I wanted to post it for afriend, but I can't hear anythign! :S

  • I really don't like this sort of comments but who cannot like such an amazing song??

  • I love this version ! But the quality is poor, so i've downloaded and masterised it to have a clean sound, you can watch/hear here : /watch?v=1sflfA3jeWk

  • And it's great to hear it, thanks for uploading. :-)

  • Let me put the record straight. Kathy was Paul's girlfriend when he lived in England in 64/65. He was "Homeward Bound" to Kathy ('Where my love lies waiting"). She was never Artie's girlfriend. They split after Paul returned to the USA when Sound of Silence became a hit. Kathy subsequently married and has 3 (now grown up) children.

Also, the Paramount shows were in 1993 not 2001.

  • @Yrksman I can tell you've done your research, that's good to prove your point(instead of blindly acting like you know everything like a lot of people on the internet, causing arguments)

  • kathy was a girl puttin out to paul, but felt living with art was easier - so she married art, her dad has to be proud everytime this sing came on.

  • Isn't it during the 2000's ?

  • Is it possible to get a louder version of this?

  • Artie's voice really adds to this song.

  • Great version, BUT...check out Nancy Wilson from Heart singing this song live from Mccabes guitar shop in L.A.. I like it better, check it out, hope its on YT

  • @Uz2Brockstar Have you heard Shawn Colvin's cover? It rivals the original.

  • great great paul and art will be forever with us

  • Broken Hearts singing their song.

  • audience tape recording? That's why its so distant sounding? Actually, I think the Old Friends DVD has a similar rendition that's just as captivating.

  • mwebber69

Yes there is. It's at 1 minute 04/05 seconds.

  • I agree. The most moving and sentimental version of this song that I have ever heard. I would also like to know where it was recorded.

Hey - I'm a Rank Sentimentalist and I admit it.

  • This is the utterly best version of this song I´ve ever heard. The best song for the most beautiful girl I´ve ever seen :)

  • any idea where and when this was recorded?

  • @Olavi472 An island never cries ;)

  • @Olavi472 Oh go ahead Olav, tears dry....it's OK. You are human before you are Finnish right? Just cry "like a rock", no regrets, no shame... :-) Blessin's. GrannyK/katsongs

  • These harmonies are very reminiscent of the work they did while rising in popularity as a "folk duet." It is lovely. Artie's contribution as a second vocalist is often overshadowed by the fact that Paul wrote all the songs.

  • Great song...So sad, so beautiful...Thank you...

  • Very nice ! But its me or there is bad sound ?

  • Thanks, to my friend for sharing this song to me - it's very dear to me. Many thanks!

    10 stars!

  • that is lovely - a beautiful version of a well-loved song.

  • Although I love both of them separately, after listening to 40 years of their music, I still think they sound the best when they're singing harmony together.

A lovely song ... one of Paul's best.

  • danny's right. I believe this is the only S&G song Paul actually sang alone in all their studio recordings. I guess he wanted to keep it very personal. I think its still the most beautiful love song ever written. And yes, he is a genius :)

  • A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into ...) is just Paul singing as far as I know so I'd have to say your incorrect there my friend.

  • when i play this on guitar i sub "a land" for england

  • Because?

  • Why ? what gives you the right to fuck with the original lyrics ? This is what always makes me laugh, NOBODIES changing genius' work, then trying to claim credence for it. Pathetic worthless people. Your room is all you'll know.

  • It is not the Mona Lisa. It is a work that can be interpreted and reworked. Let the modifications stand on their own merit. Bob Dylan reworded The Boxer with every blow that laid him out rather than glove. Is his genius diminished be such an act?

  • don't listen to those assholes, it's cool that you have pride in your home.

  • What a beautiful version, is this on any CD?

    Thanks for sharing........

  • The essential simon&garfunkel collections that contained this Kathy;s song live version...

    I luv this live version

  • No, the essential simon and garfunkel CD does not contain this version. This is a live version from 1991 at the Nassau Coliseum. This is on no album that simon and garfunkel released.

  • isn't it funny how the live versions always contain a special spark that just..I don't know. It's hard to explain, but It's like I would like to have CD's of the live version.

  • why does his heart lie in England?

  • It is where he met his girl friend and where she lived at the time.

  • what a genius he is.. paul simon

  • @2dannyc89 Kathy was Art's girl friend

  • maybe his girlfriend, Kathy, is there... just a thought

  • @prfctday *Kathy was a secretary from Hornchurch in Essex*.

When I was in New York in 1983 I bought a book about them.

  • @prfctday That's where Kathy lived

  • @prfctday

they lived there at the time. kathy was someone paul loved at the time but that garfunkel married! life eh?!

  • @prfctday because of kathy his wife (garfunkles)

  • @prfctday His girlfriend was English he met her whilst he travelled England playing small Jazz clubs

  • when was that?

    2003?

  • they sing alternate verses?

    and then together...

    lovely.

  • Really good-best version, but a little faint! Thanks for posting

  • wow that's the best version I've ever heard

  • So soft and full of sadness...

  • any1 kno any uva songs like this worth downloadin i like gordon lightfoot aswell

  • you might like Nick Drake maybe.

  • Yes, wonderful song, very fine version, they still make you quiet and peaceful inside...thx for posting this one!

  • Thanks for posting! This is the best version for this song.

  • LOVE THIS! so beautiful! isn´t this recordning for some of the Paramount theater in 1993? thanks!

  • This is a beautiful version. Thanks.

  • I love the sweet harmony of their vocals.

They sound like the drizzling rain they speak about, absent but oh so magical in its being!

  • @theK0OKS

    you're a poet. :)

  • My favourite song ! It´s the first time I hear it sung by the two of them !

5 stars......would you mind posting it but a little bit louder, please ?

    Add to my fav,s!!!

  • LOUDER!

  • My sister's name. Been gone for 29 years. I am starting to miss her, more.

  • The 2-part harmony is absolutely beautiful. They should have done it this way on the Old Friends Tour

  • I just had to listen for a second time, and this may be the best version of this I've ever heard...I wonder why they never bothered to release this arrangement, and wonder if we luck out into them touring to promote "Live 1969" (as has been rumored) if they consider doing this arrangement. 2dannyc89 you rock! Blessings!!

  • WOW- This is as fave a Paul Simon song as I have, and this is a different arrangement than I've ever heard! I wonder if the "Live 1969" coming out will be like this...I prefer Paul's voice to Art's, but the two part harmony is great, and I like that they are trading off vocals. When, and where is this from? Thanks so much for all that you are sharing...IT IS JUST GREAT!! Blessings!!!

  • Your welcome, This was recorded in 2001 at the Paramount Theater in NY. It was one of the very few shows they did in 2001. It is often forgotten that they toured then, but they did. I doubt they will go on tour...well at least within the next month, because Paul is going to be in Brooklyn doing his month long special "Love in Hard Times" I got my tickets for that and i cant wait. But you are very welcome, and i will try to keep posting good songs.

  • Paul has the shows, which end in late April, and Garfunkel has nothing scheduled after late April either. There were rumors last year about them negotiating about starting a tour in Australia. One can hope.

I assumed this was from sometime in the 60's!! That is a true testament to just how great and vital they can still sound. When I saw Simon on the "Surprise" tour I wasn't sure what to expect & he blew me away. I adored the new arrangements of songs on the 2003 tour as well. Blessings!!

  • It appears that my last post didn't post so...can you email me at ...HareDurga at yahoo dot com. Thanks & Blessings!

  • hey has Simon & Garfunkel sang this together?

  • this is them singing kathys song together

  • Wow 2 part harmany of that song is better than 1.
