Black Panther is so Noble and Wise! he said " more like solemn teenagers who feel more mature than their behavior warrants. The fact that every conversation here is framed in terms of profit and power, says it all..... you could have made half these breakthroughs yourself. But there is too much money to be made in misery. Why cure a disease when people pay for medicine?-" Then gets cut off by the guy. I swear what he said is so true... sad world now.. i bet there is already a cure 4 cancer/aids!
@mellemud You can believe that thier is a cure. But like the Panther said, "there is too much money to be made in misery". If the west has a cure, will we put the price of it so high that it will be out of reach for the millions of Africans who need it?
Okay, months ago I bitched about Jugernaut substituting The Rhino.....but now that I know they wanted to bring in storm early it seems like a sensible choice......not that I am satisfied with the show so far.
@FlowerJutsu I''m addressing Wakanda as being headed by a pompous jerk, not saying that this is the reason why people in the real world look down on Africa. Also, the Western Powers COULDN'T make things like free health care or medical advances cuz they were dealing with, y'know, World Wars? The things Wakanda ignored? And some countries can't even afford running water, let alone make breakthroughs. And what about African countries riddled with AIDS? You won't trade with them, ya hypocrites?!
@ngrey651 hell no, becuz they r the same cuase for the aids, and the no water. dnt forget, africa was colonized by the same powers and groups of people. the same education i have in baltimore, md, usa, r happening in johassnesburg south africa, becuase the same powers r in power in s.a. and in the u.s. hell no; that's like running back to ur abuser, or opressor hell no!!!
LOL did anyone see the parallel between Dondy Reese and Condi Rice? Gawd this series is spot on with portraying the way the western world only seems to war with countries whose natural resources are plentiful? Thankyou BET for this!!!
I'm sorry, do the people of an African nation that refuses to share a cure for cancer with the rest of the world want to take the moral high road? The leader who whines about how the lowly UN representative used his first name wants to take the moral high road? You wanna talk about how the others are acting like children, huh? Well you're acting like a pretentious snob. And you wonder why people look down on you? It ain't the color of your skin. It's your attitude!
@ngrey651 So you're trying to build a case for the reason the Western World looks down on Africa...and the best argument you can come up with is a fictional comic book nation's attitude toward the very real violence and genocidal mindset of the "free-world"? Seriously? That is why the western world demonizes Africa and African culture...because of a marvel comic book series? To quote Barny Frank.."On what planet do you spend most of your time?"
I love* how this show shoves the whole" The white people and Western World are ignorant and foolhardy and the true African people are superior" vibe down our throats time and time again. Because you know...Africa is doing SO well. Ever think they are poverty stricken are not taken seriously for a reason?
Christ, forget the black empowerment vibe, this is just ridiculous writing. An isolated bunch of people with somehow superior technology thumbing their noses at all outsiders.
@LordBifford make senss, shidd that's slavery started for my people, well i mean the maafa, the holocaust f=or african peoples, and their descendents. if they didnt allow evil people to come in shidd, we still be in africa, still dominant. n plus, its not against whites, against evil, duh?
is real i think. Europe and UN are so money hungry. if Africa really had wakanda it wont be so fucked up. wakanda keeps the African culture and is not racist.
All the good comic characters like Batman(Panther's equal), and Lex Luthor should get their own motion comics... Also why the heck is this on BET? The Black Panther is African but that's irrelevant to the fact that it is a comic and ANY comic lover would watch this show, not just those that subscribe to BET(which is a premium channel)...
There were like 100 marvel characters in this one, it's great to see the rich history they have. Leave it to the Klaw, besides being a villain being an an absolute d#$khead. He kills a man's family and then has the nerve to want revenge? For what? I can't wait for the inevitable thorough ass- whipping the panther will give him!
Huh...Klaww assembles a team to try and invade Wakanda...and Man-Ape is nowhere to be seen. M'Boku and his tribe hate the Wakandans for what they did to their ancestors centuries ago.
I like this, but I hate that Marvel completely screwed up the way she and T'Challa met for this movie. Her story is just as complex and interestiing as his.
I love this show!! I hate that there is so much racism directed towards it. I never really liked The Black Panther in the comics, but this is awesome!!!
@DazzOne2012 Forget them. They're probably the same type of people who go on Yahoo!News and make retarded posts in the comments section, blaming everything on Obama and "liberals". They're just haters. That's all.
@DazzOne2012 The only real racism I'm picking up on is in the writing itself. Have you ever read a Reggie Hudlin comic? The guy is a fervent black supremacist, and he's as subtle about it as a brick to the groin. On top of that, he's not even a very good writer. There are bits that make me chuckle, but at the end of the day, Hudlin just turns me off.
@WigginsPete If you ever seen the Boondocks episode of him(hunger strike& rukus reality show), or that to is also "black supremacist" for you, I highly doubt this guy is what you say he is.
@boots13100 I haven't seen any of the Boondocks, so I can't comment on that, but I have read his Black Panther run in trades, and it's basically T'Challa teaming up with all the other black heroes because... they're black, and apparently T'Challa is suddenly an icon for the black community (not a bad idea in itself, but appallingly handled) and Wakanda is a Mary Sue-topia more advanced than the rest of the world in every way (but they won't give us the cure for cancer... assholes)... yeah.
@WigginsPete He teamed up with them because they're black, and that is black supremacy? America has a cure for diseases,America is a business, their moto, make pofits by any means nessesary. And kawanda is a fictional place it's not real, just like Gothom, Tatoonie from star wars and Mongo from Flash Gordon. that scene was just a way to show how people in high places can be, when giving a life saving cure. do you actually think the U.S. would give out that type of cure to patients for free?
@boots13100 Of course I don't think the US would give the cure for free. And yes, I am aware that this is fiction, but fiction can be twisted to serve the agenda of the author. As for the team-ups... are you familiar with Christopher Priest, the guy who wrote BP for several years in the late 90s/early 00s? He wrote a great (but sadly short-lived) book called The Crew about various black/Hispanic/mixed-race Marvel street heroes forming a group, which didn't feel contrived or forced at all...
@WigginsPete Oh yea the Crew I still have the 1st issue, it wasnt bad, it reminded me of Tribe. But most Movies and novels be it fiction, or not put some kind of agenda or ideology in their work to make people think and discuss (like now), Its up to the audience to decide.
@boots13100 True enough. My case for Hudlin being a supremacist was this storyarc he wrote during the time T'Challa and Storm were standing in for Reed and Sue Richards on the Fantastic Four. Are you familiar with the Skrulls (shapeshifting aliens, longtime Marvel would-be Earth-conquerers)?
@WigginsPete NO I havent heard of BP & Storm standing in for the Richards, and it already doesnt sound good. Thats like Dare Devil standing in for Blood pool, It dosent sound right. Now a collaboration I can see, but not a subtitution, and what was the story behind that? But the Skrulls I vaguley remember, I never really followed it because I felt it was a "V" vs Marvel.
@DazzOne2012 there's racism directed at anything that's not eurocentric and/or furthers the tired ass white supremacist narrative about reality. it's sad but I've come to laugh at how hard white patriarchal power structures have to work to keep up pretenses. Perfect example: when do ppl of color search out and troll a youtube page that is aimed for people of european descent? How often does some hate-filled self conscious neo-nazi come onto pgs that seek to celebrate & love blackness? Exactly.
racisim goes both ways. and this programe has plenty of antiwestern statmenets and some bits of racisism of its own that really mires the story and alianates some viewers. i personly could live with out some of it. i enjoy this series but that part really gets on my nerves. its stuff like where they say oh well we cant give them the cure for cancer they will just use it as a weapon. there are other things too. its a bit narrow minded and unnessary. sadly it was part of the orignal story to
