OK... God created the universe, and evolution is true? Conclusion? God chose an ugly, cruel method to create. Most species that have lived are extinct, many creatures born never live long enough to reproduce. And death was here long before "Adam". Is Genesis anything but a bronze age myth? Is God really good? I don't think so.

im really liking these videos and im especially liking the comments being posted here because its not the normal creationists/evolutionists bashing that normally goes on. There is no evidence God created the universe in 6 days unless science is wrong and we assume the writer(s) of Genesis 1 - 3 were writing science? Genesis 1 - 3 in my opinion was a genre of literature called myth that can contain historical data. I believe in the resurrection based on the Apostles testimony and that is faith and not science. There was an empty tomb and Jesus apostles preached the resurrection of Jesus and the hope for us too to be resurrected when we die.

@modomnoc1010 Agreed. Genesis 1-3 is not a historical account of Creation but a set of parables about the universe and God. In other words, Genesis 1-3 (as well as all myth) is philosophy, not History 101. The Tree of Knowledge is instructive of the nature of knowledge: it's a double-edged sword. It gave us both pennicilin and Hiroshima. Genesis, like a Platonic dialogue, demonstrates truths which are instinctive felt but can never be clearly articulated.

It's amazing how evolution can bring up such strong views when Genesis 1 - 3 in my opinion should not be taken as literally true in terms of science and history. If my faith hangs on scientific truth of Genesis then I'm in trouble. But I start with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ which I believe with all my being.

And your claim is the exact claim I don't understand... a person can believe in a God who sent His Son to do miracles, healing, get beaten, crucified and then RESURRECTED to life again to save people from their sins---yet somehow cannot believe this same God created the world in 6 days? @LucrativeLucius Good on you for trying, it seems to be a bit of a lost cause though.. It is people like him that make Christians look foolish and delusional. He is doing far worse for the church than he could ever imagine. Pretty sad huh. Seriously, if every Christian had the sense of Wright and many other thinking believers rather than the self righteous, ignorance of people like him then there would be far more intellectual followers of Christ. It's sad and something that needs to be fixed.

Either Genesis is correct and God created every animal species, Or, evolution is correct and the fossil record is correct, that animals all evolved from a common point. If you propose that God created life in a simple form, then evolution took over and advanced into modern species, then the Adam & Eve account is null. = no original sin = no need for Jesus to save you from it = no Christianity. Religionists must believe in creation, else scripture evaporates. No scripture = no religion!

I do not have a "belief" sir, I stated facts. When intellectual theists see that evolution is irrefutable, they decided to embrace the science and claim "God" was the first cause. However, it holds true that if evolution is correct, then the Genesis account is incorrect and your religion proved myth. Stick to a story, is it evolution or creationism? But you can't claim both!

It sounds to me as if you would reject the reasoning of many sound scientists, historians, and the like. All I can say to you is to try and listen to Wright's appeal to reason. An interesting perspective, but Id like to make the point that although it may be true that early support for evolution was partly due to some peoples attraction to the different "world view" it offered, this has nothing to do with the reasons we have today for accepting the theory.

@gaussian Species may 'evolve' in the sense that they have been designed with a certain range of adaptablilty to their immediate environments. Who didn't know that much long before CD noticed finch beaks? But as for "the reasons we have today for accepting the theory", as an explanation for biological life itself, I've been patiently waiting for 40 years for that information! Macro-evolution is pure fantasy! Lavish, audacious claims to the contrary prove absolutely nothing. God=design.
