I dont know the law in the US but in Ireland the police ( Gardai ) are exempt from laws such as wearing a seatbelt while driving. Its understandable is certain cases where a cop/garda may have to enter or exit the squad car quickly. Is that the same there?

Politicans can give themelves wage increases, decide how long they can be in office, create their own laws on how it effects them. Not something that "ordinary" government employees can do.

I dont know the law in the US but in Ireland the police ( Gardai ) are exempt from laws such as wearing a seatbelt while driving. Its understandable is certain cases where a cop/garda may have to enter or exit the squad car quickly. Is that the same there?

@taledarkside There is no law that requires them to do anything. The Supreme Court has already ruled numerous times that the police are not obligated to serve or protect you. Now they may be violating internal policy, but they aren't breaking law by not enforcing law. Also, I think you are misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm saying I couldn't fine someone for something that I do myself. So either I would obey ALL laws, or not cite people for stupid crap that I do to.

@taledarkside That is exactly right. Police and firefighters do not have to show up if you place a call for service - legally, that is. Once case law example is Warren v. District of Columbia. If you read this case it will make you sick to your stomach, but in the end the police were found to not be legally responsible for what happened. There are many more like it. Which is why it is your obligation to protect yourself.
