SSDs still use the sata interface i think you're referring to mechanical hard drives. you could just maybe 3 cheap mechanical hard drives and put them into raid 0 for about the same price as a SSD with similar performance. its a bit more power consuming and noisy but its a cheap alternative
You're right installing 51mb OS and booting faster is no guage of performance but installing a traditionaly slow desktop like E17 and booting fast is.
Yes SSD Core 2. I have a dual boot 9.04 and W7. W7 booted about 2 seconds faster out the box which is why I tweaked 9.04 to the 10-15 second boot range and finally to 6 seconds the boot chart is posted on The wiki ubuntu BootCharting. Has anyone seen tweaks for making W7 boot faster? The SSD is not raided.
that's the minimal version that you use on netbooks that your booting, you are a fraud, a fake. by the way 'i'm an overclocker' whoopee doo doos, anybody can call themselves that, I can change settings in the bios too, and I can solder bridges on certain processors, and install liquid cooling, big deal, I could even teach my nan to do it.
What Minimal? It was alpha pre-release. If you are what you say you are then beat my 6 second boot chart posted the ubuntu bootchart wiki. BTW with full gui and networking. Then you'll be more than hot air. Some one turn on a fan there is some foul smelling urine coming from fatriff since he realized despite his skills, he holds no speed records and liquid cools himself. LMAO

Yes old SSD. We now have PCI express with 600 mega transfer rate and OCZ with 240 mega transfer rates. I was running about a 140 mega transfer rate.

Curious, what are some of your basic system stats- such as RAM, disk space, processor type and capacity [measured in GHz], plus your graphics card?
Just wondering.

ah, I see. nice. ^^
Nice video BTW, mine doesn't start quite this fast but I have a 5 sec. delay in boot time so I can switch OSes if I need. =]

how did you get it to boot?
are you using solid state drive?

Booting from SSD would take probably just 2-3 secs.

I would also like to know how you booted that fast.

I think so. I guess else it will be pretty hard to reach taht kinda speed, if its a complet restart.

For sure this 14 second boot was after minor tweaks. My posted 6 second boot chart at the wiki is with the same hardware. BTW I'm a Overclocker.

Simple, install xpud, boots in 3 seconds on my 1.6Ghz AM2 with 1Gb DDR2 and PATA hard drive.
Boot time is no gauge of performance.
Check BIOS LInux, boots faster than your monitor can turn on.

Err, the Netbook version is just GNOME with a frontend. You can remove that frontend and then you have the same result.
And after all, what does it matter?
