the airbus a380 is by no means the limit. they could make planes as large as airports could support and factories and transportation capable of handling increased size. I think we will se aircraft in the future with 10 or maybe even 20 engines and perhaps more wings. however i think the answer is making flying like the family car availible for everybody. oneday everybody will have there own planes and we won't need pilots to take us on holiday anymore.

this aircraft has been highly critiscised for the impact on people in local villages in france who have suffered weekly convoys of large parts being shipped through tiny narrow villages in some areas with only inches to spares between housing on narrow roads form giant moving platforms traveling at very low speeds. THe enviromental considerations for locals in small quiet villages were not taken into consideration when buidling this. its amazing how machines get more love than people

Amazing engineering. Just to think it weighs in excess of 500 tonnes at takeoff, with the modern constraints that exist, such as runway length, noise and environmental pollution, and the various aviation authorities rules and regulations, is almost miraculous. @Rico8458 The airlines flying it ARE filling them up. As far as people won't fly it if one crashes? Yes they will. There have been 26 fatal accidents with Boeing 747s, yet that hasn't stopped people from flying them. And that plane was just as much a hype when it came out, if not more so.

well i should imagine Airbus did their research before pumping $15 billion into the project and they only need to sell 250 to breakeven. To date they have sold 200 with 15 in operation. They also just took orders at Paris Airfshow for 127 aircraft worth $12.9 billion. Travel on the A380 will be cheaper for passengers and cleaner for the environment. They have aced it with this plane and good luck to them. It took guts and i wish them continued success.

well my friend, if you care for the environment i suggest the next time you fly hop on one of these. it has dramatically reduced external noise levels, lower fuel consumption and significantly improved CO2 emissions per passenger kilometre than other aircraft. It also has increased capacity at airports therefore the reduced need for expansion. its pretty hard to argue against its value when you know the facts which is why it will be a huge success. By the way a 747 has 4 engines too

I love the A380 itself, but configuration of this specific airplane is awful. First class looks a lot worse than Business Class in British Airways 747! Nothing that You expect from abreakthrough airliner.. thankfuly Singapore Airlines config is better.

Im not a boeing or airbus supporter but i doubt the a380 wil be operating very much in the next 10 years. airports have to make huge acomadations for it and it costs way to much to operate it, most airlines are going for the 787, and 748, and the A-350, because there a little more practical to operate, you get what im saying

Thats why there are 192 firm orders already from some of the best airliners in the world, including Singapore, Virgin, Air France, Qantas, Emirates, BA etc. Heck, even China have ordered some. Fuel economy compared to planes like the 787 and A350 is something like 20% Lower per passenger. And the airline has a higher pressurisation compared to the 747 (5000 ft -A380, 8000 ft -747), making it comfier. Passengers will choose to fly on this aircraft.

The plane it`self cost`s alot of money. And the price to operate the A380 would have the airlines running for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

The main reason why the Airlines would go out is.

1)the A380 takes Hundreds of Gallons which is more then the 747-400 and with today`s prices for fuel it won`t help t all.

2nd The operating costs as i said earlier would be too much for the airline to handle.

3 even if they say the price would be cheap it won`t because the airlines would lose money.

i didn`t state "rebuild" nor did Fowlerflap, the airports would just have to ADD ON terminals to the airport. the Taxiways would be widened not rebuilt. either way the Airport will lose money to assure the plane will safely fit in the Airport, also don`t forget that operating costs for the A380 may be not so cheap for the airline operating it.
