@iflagwweflaggersv2 i apologize...you're right and not the popular mechanics guy. he must be just too overwhelmed and excited he forgot to do the math. 80,000 lbs will not even take this thing off the ground.
the airbus a380 is by no means the limit. they could make planes as large as airports could support and factories and transportation capable of handling increased size. I think we will se aircraft in the future with 10 or maybe even 20 engines and perhaps more wings. however i think the answer is making flying like the family car availible for everybody. oneday everybody will have there own planes and we won't need pilots to take us on holiday anymore.
this aircraft has been highly critiscised for the impact on people in local villages in france who have suffered weekly convoys of large parts being shipped through tiny narrow villages in some areas with only inches to spares between housing on narrow roads form giant moving platforms traveling at very low speeds. THe enviromental considerations for locals in small quiet villages were not taken into consideration when buidling this. its amazing how machines get more love than people
@1982FMJ I have to say I have only seen videos on this but given Airbus are as much a political as a commercial consortium, logistics will always be a nightmare. It makes absolutely no sense business wise but everyone wants a slice of the cake don't they. Positioning Toulouse as the final assembly point seems ridiculous to me but then Joe Public has no sway in these matters.
Amazing engineering. Just to think it weighs in excess of 500 tonnes at takeoff, with the modern constraints that exist, such as runway length, noise and environmental pollution, and the various aviation authorities rules and regulations, is almost miraculous. If my country hadnt invented it, like the American's invented the F-22, or the 747, or the SR-71, or the Saturn V, or the Space Shuttle, etc, then i would be upset. So, Americans, give it a rest. you've had your share. BTW, im English.
and to say, I live in derby, in the UK and that is where they are made constantly, my dad even makes parts for a rolls royces engines so i feel lucky to of been involved by the super of smallest ways.

@tioui154 great :) us people have no idea what technology you can find in europe. I can easily say we are better at many things, peace for one example. Sailing boats and so on :) but ofc, it was the europeans back in the days that took the country from the indians :P but something went wrong after that.
The Boeing 747 also was delayed in the beginning. No airplane is cost effective the first years. I think the A380 will be a huge success in ten years or so.

Americans are soooo clhildish all the negative comments about this plane just because its European............Lol makes me laugh its just a plane get over it. Try importing some to the US as most american planes nowadays are ancient !!
@Rico8458 The airlines flying it ARE filling them up. As far as people won't fly it if one crashes? Yes they will. There have been 26 fatal accidents with Boeing 747s, yet that hasn't stopped people from flying them. And that plane was just as much a hype when it came out, if not more so.
But hey, you're American. It's almost a requirement to dismiss the A380 if you are it seems. Will I find similar comments by you on videos about the 747-8, which is almost as big? Somehow, I doubt it.
anyone how thinks boeings are nicer are just saying that cause they think boeing dominates the plane industry, they REALLY dont. airbus is a ENORMOUS company with ALOT of innovations
Hollywoodising! a plane doesn´t it any better. For the purpose it was designed...That´s what French do with a plane that looks as it was designed for!
Not for the screen but for economy
, range, new technology ! interior space...
That´s what serious Airlines looks for!
The looks don´t makes it worse, by the way, for the people that "really" know about airline business...
The Airbus A380 Is the best in years to come in her category as it looks anyway!
i have been in this plane...let me tell you what u see in the plane..u dont see in other kind of planes...when it takes off it feels like everything is going to fast and soo powerful!!
cool, i really only bought mine because this guy down my street thinks he is better than everyone else. barack his name his. well he has this 747 and its great and all but now i have one of these beasts to add to my collection. unfortunatly i didnt have much change left over from my 500 million after i had the aqurium and the sharks put in so i'm just gunna cover ine with a few stickers.
how can it possibly be a waste of money? it is a marvel of modern engineering and the future of international air travel...... and contrary to popular opinion it is more fuel efficient per passenger than boeing. well done to airbus on a fantastic aircraft
who would possibly have that much money just to get a good seat?? The worlds economy is in bad shape i vawould be saving up instead of going bankrupt.
well i should imagine Airbus did their research before pumping $15 billion into the project and they only need to sell 250 to breakeven. To date they have sold 200 with 15 in operation. They also just took orders at Paris Airfshow for 127 aircraft worth $12.9 billion. Travel on the A380 will be cheaper for passengers and cleaner for the environment. They have aced it with this plane and good luck to them. It took guts and i wish them continued success.
well my friend, if you care for the environment i suggest the next time you fly hop on one of these. it has dramatically reduced external noise levels, lower fuel consumption and significantly improved CO2 emissions per passenger kilometre than other aircraft. It also has increased capacity at airports therefore the reduced need for expansion. its pretty hard to argue against its value when you know the facts which is why it will be a huge success. By the way a 747 has 4 engines too
I love the A380 itself, but configuration of this specific airplane is awful. First class looks a lot worse than Business Class in British Airways 747! Nothing that You expect from abreakthrough airliner.. thankfuly Singapore Airlines config is better.
Im not a boeing or airbus supporter but i doubt the a380 wil be operating very much in the next 10 years. airports have to make huge acomadations for it and it costs way to much to operate it, most airlines are going for the 787, and 748, and the A-350, because there a little more practical to operate, you get what im saying
Airbus has gone though five CEOs as multiple delays in the A380 program resulted in massive write-offs and a restructuring plan that foresees 10,000 job cuts over four years — not to mention billions of dollars in lost profit.
Such delays have hurt more than just profits: Airbus' reputation has suffered, and U.S. rival Boeing Co. grabbed the top sales spot in 2006.
Thats why there are 192 firm orders already from some of the best airliners in the world, including Singapore, Virgin, Air France, Qantas, Emirates, BA etc. Heck, even China have ordered some. Fuel economy compared to planes like the 787 and A350 is something like 20% Lower per passenger. And the airline has a higher pressurisation compared to the 747 (5000 ft -A380, 8000 ft -747), making it comfier. Passengers will choose to fly on this aircraft.
Yeah passengers that have millions of dollars. The A380 will just make our Economy even worse then Before. I say Boeing would again be the winner because the 747-8 would easily wipe the A380 out of the Market because it doesn`t require bigger gates, Taxiways, and runways. also it won`t cause Airliners to go out of business.
It's not Airbus's fault is the Airliners choose to put all that fancy new space up to making more profits :(. And if there are more passengers per aircraft, ticket prices will be lower. Out of curiosity: why will airliners go out of business cause of this?
even with all these factors..Airbus will prove more popular with prople because of there curiosity, modern technology and safety. The prices for tickets on this thing are the same as any other plane. and it is more fuel efficient than the ancient elic 747. US are beaten hands down. if it didnt matter to ye why are ye trying to beat it??

i didn`t state "rebuild" nor did Fowlerflap, the airports would just have to ADD ON terminals to the airport. the Taxiways would be widened not rebuilt. either way the Airport will lose money to assure the plane will safely fit in the Airport, also don`t forget that operating costs for the A380 may be not so cheap for the airline operating it.
I SAID STOP BULLSHITTING. None of that is true. Per passenger the fuel efficiency is higher per person and it complies to laws which mean nothing has to be rebuilt unless it wants to flyto Southampton Airport.
Airports donnt need to change anything. If your british then watch richard hammonds engineering stuff on iplayer. I wish people would stop crapping. No airports need to be rebuilt there are legal limits for planes 80m wingspan ok NOTHING NEEDS TO BE REBUILT.

zbox720 3 years ago
The plane it`self cost`s alot of money. And the price to operate the A380 would have the airlines running for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
The main reason why the Airlines would go out is.
1)the A380 takes Hundreds of Gallons which is more then the 747-400 and with today`s prices for fuel it won`t help t all.
2nd The operating costs as i said earlier would be too much for the airline to handle.
3 even if they say the price would be cheap it won`t because the airlines would lose money.
