  • If I ever give an interview, I hope I can be at least compared to this.

  • LOL when you agree to interview this nut you better be on your guard.

  • now at 4:04 he either said cunts or shits. i hope it was cunts.

  • Now we know where Dave Chappelle got the idea for the black KKK member!

  • Listen to Chappelle laughing at 3:48 lol

  • Jane Doe 69 LOLS!!!!

  • He's so fucking cool.

  • this aired on my ninth birthday!

  • Haha James Ellroy made Dave Chappelles day? nice! I wonder if they did end up hanging out, I would imagine with their un-PC humor they probably had a lot to talk about over a couple of rounds

  • Ellroy has such a great deadpan sense of humor that it's hard to tell when he's fucking around.

  • I fondly remember and miss this set.

  • 01:06

  • What is folds and crenellation?

  • @mrdurdenx Crenellations are battlements, like on a castle.

  • We're lean, mean and obscene.

  • ellroy enters a room.

ten minutes later he leaves a ruin.

    like a wasp.

hello peepers, pederasts, prowlers, pantysniffers, punks and pimps, i am james ellroy the demon dog, and the slick trick with the demon dick.

    he totally dominates them all.

  • watching this interview should be a requirement to get a Bachelor's degree

  • He's a lot different now than he was then.

  • what does it mean when he shakes his fist around 5:17? dumb question I know.

  • 4:21 planted the seeds to one of the best skits on chappelle's show...

  • I was thinking the same thing. :)

  • He reminds me of an asshole frat boy.

An amazing author but from all indication, a complete waste of a human being.

  • give him a break, maybe one day he'll be some faggot on youtube like you but in the meantime he'll just need to settle for being one of the greatest living american novelists.

  • i think james ellroy enjoys his life so much since getting right,he juuust doesn't give a bag of nuts what anyone thinks of him. fun place to be.

  • i think he's a mal-adjusted nerd with great ideas as long as he's sitting behind a typewriter.

  • Does Ellroy have an Autobiography?

    What is it?

  • It's called 'My Dark Places' mate, fantastic book where he investigates the murder of his mother.

  • My Dark Places is a brilliant memoir. His second one about women is out in 2010. Can't wait for that.

  • why so many guests?

  • Who's the chick next to Dave?

  • Rebecca Gayheart

  • Cheers for that.

  • @lalarikyu GAyheart ahhahahahahahaha

  • the man completely steals the show. Long live The Dog!!

  • Ellroy maybe the greatest living American Writer since Mailer passed away but he seems like a verry scarry and imposing person

  • I understand he is a manic cokehead

  • I would love to know where you heard this nonesense.

  • E;;roy wrote the screenplay for "Street Kings" as well but refused to promote the film for some reason.

  • He wrote "The Nightwatchman," which was turned into "Street Kings."

  • That still doesn't explain why he didn't want to promote it. He is such a unique spirit, I could never hope to guess what is going on in his head. Have you read the book? How does it differ from the film overall?

  • "The Nightwatchman" was a screenplay he wrote. I do not know how it differs from "Street Kings" but I'm guessing he didn't promote it because he didn't want his name associated with it any more than it was already.

  • I get the feeling that the film took some sort of licenses with the story that Ellroy didn't like. It is very different then L.A. Confidentional which he seems more proud of.

  • "He is hung like a cashew."

  • Knowing that James Ellroy and Dave Chappelle were once in the same room together makes me very happy.

  • This is and always has been my favorite episode of Conan O'brien. I am not otherwise a big fan at all, but it was easily one of the best hours in TV history.

  • Agree 100%. I hadn't seen this interview in the ten years since it was first broadcast and it is just as wildly entertaining as I remembered.

  • I love James Ellroy, He's one of American fictions all time great literary voices..........................But he does kinda look like Alf Garnet! (hey that's a thought, get Warren Mitchell to play james ellroy in a film of his life!)

  • John Malkovich

  • Awesome.

  • Wait....just noticed. 0:24 is he howling like a wolf there?

  • Correction: howling like a demon dog*

  • He owned that show man. Superb.

  • James Ellroy is bloody brilliant!
