Why the fuck do people think it is their job to condition others behavior?!?!??!? This idea drives me insane!!!.... I also don't get why they picked out cigarettes to demonize... yeah, go to Mc Ds and fill your ass full of fat, and pick you up a 12 pack of drugs on the way home and that is perfectly acceptable in society... oh, but if you smoke a cigarette your the devil! Get a life people, and stay the fuck out of mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You don't like smoking , you don't need smoking .. you're addicted .. addicted to nicotine and it's not your fault
That's what people don't understand.. No one likes smoking .. think about that taste.. I used to be a smoker until i read Allan Carr's book : The easy way. Read it . you have nothing to loose
Are you seriously posting a video to help campaign someone's right to smoke? Maybe I mis-read this? What a joke. It's OBVIOUS that there is a freedom to smoke - HELLO! Personally, I wish the world leaders would BAN smoking. Smoking stinks up my beach when I'm laying outside, smoking stinks up my food when a brush of that smell comes across my table in the non-smoking area from the smoking area, smoking taste nasty when it comes across my face from someone who smokes walking in front of me.
seperate smoking and non-smoking venues is the only answer that way the non-smoking venues can dissapeare into financial obscurity and could then be bought by the smoking pubs and in a few short years the hospitality industry could recover
@TheRedsoxrule123 well thats not true...everyone who smokes does not get cancer ....anymore than everyone who drives motorcycles gets in an accident and gets paralized for life......or those who drink die of liver damage
The tax is an unfair and biased attack on smokers. People against smoking do not have to smoke but should not dictate to others whether or not they are allowed to smoke. Furthermore, the tax goes to provide healthcare for people who do not pay into the system. This is an unfair drain on those who pay for their own healthcare. Hey dumb-asses, Ron Paul doesn't support a nationwide smoking ban. Huckabee does. If you Paultards want real freedom, a smoking ban is the antithesis of freedom.
I am a smoker, unfortunately, and I totally disagree with this. If society at the state level decides in it's best interest that smoking should not be allowed, it's that society's right. The federal gov. has no right it can't tell us whats best for our society they live in whereever they came from. Same goes for drug laws. I believe if drugs were legal drug lords would cease to exist, crime would drop dramatically.
"A smoking ban DOES support freedom, the freedom to breathe clean air"
Though I have to disagree with this point..
When you walk into a smoking building, it should say "This is a smoking environment"
Call it a disclaimer.. if you continue to go in.. call it your own stupidity.
Though In a ideal society. Bars and restaurants would still have the option for smoking.. but it would be in their best interest if they didnt allow it.. ie customers.
Look this is a matter of personal choice. I lived in rural Washington when they passed the smoking law stating that you could no longer smoke indoors and you had to be 15 feet away from entrances windows and fans.
Okay that is fine. But in my small part of the world 2 restaurants allowed smoking and 7 didn't.
So let me recap this for you, remember this is rural Washington not a big city. If you were a waitress or bartender you had a choice of places to work.
If you wanted to go out to eat or drink you had a multiple choice. Smoking or non.
All laws, federal, state or local come from those respective governments. If you don't like the law you can as politicians to change them. You can vote politicians in/out of office. That's freedom. But do you really think that when the government tell you what to do "it is very very bad"? Our government says to stop at stop signs, follow the speed limit, not to murder your neighbors. Those are good things and our government tells us that we MUST do these things!
I am a smoker and here is my stance on the whole issue. If the government wants to ban smoking in a public area (lets say a park) that is all good with me. If they want to start baning me from smoking in my car on a road, or in my house, or in a private building when the owner wants to allow it, that is when I get mad.
I am a non-smoker, and I agree with you wholeheartedly. That last point, however, about 'a private building when the owner wants to allow it' wouldn't apply to a public restaurant or other workplace. I agree with your point, but I don't feel that it is in opposition to Huckabee's political stance.
Now, I'm not exactly clear on the intention of your comment, so please forgive me if I misinterpreted. In either case, though, I don't mean to sound confrontational.
Res truants would be private buildings, as in not government owned, or bars. Private buildings in this sense should be able to make their own rules regarding the matter. They had to repeal a law here to allow bar owners to allow smoking after there was a complete public ban on it. The age to smoke in a bar now (in Nashville) is 21, but I can go buy them at 18. It's stupid and as far as I am concerned the government shouldn't be poking their head into private institutions.
When the Government tells me what to do with my self is wrong.Smoking is not good, but should they tax you for every pound your over weight.Man they would fix healthcare promblems in one shot.I know All of you nonsmokers can't quit eating Big MACs.Don't say it does't effect anyone else.Genral surgin said obeseity is #1 killer over smoking. That cost me money heathcare fatass's
This is not an easy issue, as clearly, so many of you assume it is. What both sides of the situation need to talk about is empathy to the other side. Smokers should understand the concerns of non-smokers, and vice-versa.
We would also do well here to mention the fact that the government health care programs, at least in my state (MN), have made it goal to see tobacco use decline as well. This is not merely because it offends some party, but because of the numerous adverse health effects.
As a former tobacco farmer, I see the argument here but it comes down to this. You're an idiot if you smoke. You know its harmful, but you continue to do it and feel it is your selfish right to be an idiot and pollute around other people. This is a matter of being a good citizen and having respect for others who wish not to destroy themselves and those around them. I support Huckabee for regulating smoking. Hell, ban it. You'll live longer!
i think the new law on smokeing is you have to do it under you bed sheets with the door locked in the middle of the night with all your lights turned off
Hey, I know! Since it's our right to blow cigarette smoke wherever we please, let's make it legal to blow rat poison powder everywhere we want! It'll be the new cool thing! And then we can blow it into people's faces because it's our right! Yes, awesome!!
I don't drink. At least with drinking you keep the poison inside yourself instead of blowing it down my throat...but then there is the whole thing with ruined lives, ruined families, and a death tole from all the drunk drivers. I think that's worth having a good time once in a while, don't you guys think so?
If you want to be protected from toxic air wherever you go, wear a gasmask ... I know a group of molekular chemist in Vienna, Austria who have undertaken extensive air ph testing with samples from plants people sent from the U.S. ... the results?
And I support peoples right to breath clean air...but for the sake of all that is good...VOTE FREEDOM FIRST! Property owner rights! How much freedom will we give up?...someday it will be a law that will infringe on non smokers as well. Keep chippin away at the constitution folks!
National Smoking Ban...whatever happened to PROPERTY OWNER RIGHTS?? My bar, my paid taxes, my mortgage pmt, my income tax, my establishment. Dont like smoke.. go to the club where the OWNER made HIS CHOICE to not have smokers, and stay outta mine. FASCIST
That's right people. Take up jogging like Jim Fixx. Trade lung cancer for a heart attack. Why make the end long and painful when you can go in the blink of an eye instead.
i dont get it, a tax should be raised on tobacco and other unneccesary goods, smokers have the option to quit and should, just because they dont have the mental mindeset or will power to is their own fault
What would you consider unnecessary? Raise taxes on prime rib and not hamburger? After all, prime rib is a luxury not a necessity. Let's tax that riding mower, that's not necessary when you can push that old manual one around. Tax the hell out of taverns, they aren't necessary. You can buy what the tavern sells at any store and take it home. What do you need with a 500k home when you can get one for 200k? Is that necessary? Yer way too vague.
smokers choose to get addicted to the product (you aren't addicted until after a few times of smoking)... therefore, unless inhibited by mental disease, it's a choice... if you choose to smoke you choose to pay the consequences, it's not a right
If I had the chance to vote in congress I'd vote to increase smoking taxes every chance I got, they deserve it for the burden it is on our defunct healthcare program
Let's see now.. second hand smoke "may" be hazardous. There's no real hard evidence. Alcohol on the other hand is responsible for costing millions of dollars just to replace vehicles destroyed by drunk drivers each year. I'd say a ten dollar tax on each sixpack would even that score.
being obese costs more in healthcare than smoking, lets make overeating illegal too. I could care less about the tax on it, what I care about is my rights as a property owner. I pay the mortgage, taxes, have the deed etc, MY RIGHT...bottom line.
Sorry, but I remember back when smokers did not give a shit about my "rights" to smoke-free air when they were the majority. But now that they are only 20% we're supposed to support them polluting our air with carcinogens?
Yeah! And all the released slaves should own their previous masters! Yeah! If someone infringes on your rights, the proper response is not to restore your rights, but to restore your rights and to start infringing on their! Damn bastards! Yeah!
Now take a breath. They are people. They let adrenaline rush rule over more so than their reason. Now you are doing the same thing.
Your "right" to clean air ends at your property line. You are selfish if you and your ilk demand a sterile environment that follows you everywhere you go. Get back to your jogging behind that city bus.
"You are selfish if you and your ilk demand a sterile environment ..."
Pot meet kettle.
No, it's your ilk that screams about "personal rights", yet can never give a well-reasoned and fair reason why I have to suffer for your "right" to stink up the place.
And talk about ass-backwards reasoning: your right to spew a toxic cloud ends at YOUR property line.
If there was freedom of choice there would be smoking and non-smoking establishments to choose from. I agree, you shouldn't have put up with the smoke. Problem is though, smokers do make up a significant segment and to treat them as outcasts isn't right. Let's send a quarter of the people outside in the rain and snow to smoke to catch colds because one person in the tavern might have asthma. The laws here are so strict it is illegal to even open a private smoking only club. Is that fair?
Huckabee is DELUSIONAL. I can not stand looking at him. You would have to be BLIND if you can't see that he is a LIAR. DISHONESTY is written all over his face! Total FAKE!
for all you sheep that believe in democracy and puppet candidates like Mike Hickibee. You may want to watch this link and see how the real voices would never be in the medias top three!:)
That's exactly what will happen if the dems get their way with UHC. I can see it now....they have control over our healthcare & then they will mandate a "healthy lifestyle". Bye Bye Big Macs...hello Tofu Burgers.
This guy Huckabee is a dangerous demogogue. Now if fraud is unlawful, advertising a clearly toxic product is fraudulent and should be illegal. Same for booze, drugs, prescription drugs, etc. BUT what you consume is your business, and there should be no law against any item or substance. Any law creating "contraband" just gives an incentive to plant evidence. Although possession of plutonium should be the death penalty.....
if you are going to ban smoking for health and enviromental purposes, logically you must also ban all of the other manmade, society oriented, health/enviromental hazards as well. (thats A LOT OF SHIT!)
america was built on nicotine and caffiene!if u get upset...smoke a cigarette! 5 minute break to think before u get postal!and caffiene if you want to get on the streets and drive!!!want a sleepy head runnin u over in the morning?think about it!!!!!!
i don't get it... if the smokers are poorer how are they going to pay for expensive healthcare? insurance companies lose if you ask me... and it won't "condition behavior," they'll just smoke cigarettes that suck a little bit more.
This may be tough to argue but smoking has absolutely no benefit what so ever. Alcohol, i.e. wine, can actually be beneficial if it is consumed moderately; gun can take on the protection role in society... But cigarettes... I just can't find a reason how this product can be considered innocuous. Again, alcohol or gun, if used responsibly do not tend to be deleterious but smoking, even in moderate form can be detrimental.
I don't think you'll contribute much to the discussion with your quick one-liners. I never claimed it should be enforced as for the "missing the point" but rather draw a comparative analysis of pernicious consequences of alcohol, gun, and cigarettes. I might wish to minimize the usage of gun or abortion, but I surely hope the society itself take care of them rather being prohibited by the "law."
that would be the CO2 tax for greenhouse gas emissions.... imposed by the NWO "international taxing government" the U.N. and enforced by Rev. Huckster
I am just wondering....why am I the one that always needs "conditioning"? Do you smoke? You need conditioning. Do you like a beer or two? You need conditioning. I do know this for a fact, though. Second hand smoke may not kill anybody... but it will definitely kill a computer.
The second hand effects of alcohol claims far more lives than the second hand effects of smoking. Innocent people killed by drunk drivers, domestic abuse, workplace accidents, and random acts of violence. Do we want to ban alcohol in public places to protect those who don't drink?
I don't agree with legalizatio of other, stronger narcotics, and I'm not so sure that Paul does either, but marijuana does about as much harm, if not less, than smoking a cigarette... it's not nicotine, just weed. People smoke weed to chill out and relax... People usually drink alcohol to party and be crazy... so how many deaths related to alcohol consumption and DUIs are there a year??? and why isn't IT illegal???
I think people should be free to do as they please as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. That's where smoking is a little tricky, because if you smoke in public or confined areas you are doing something that others may not like.
There are a lot of confined areas, like buses or restaurants where most people don't smoke and don't want to inhale it, especially if they are working.
Just saying, smoke all you want, whatever you want, I just don't want to inhale it.
People should have the right to smoke if they wish. And have the right to do anything else as long at it does not impede anyone else from doing the same. When did the state decide that it owns you? I didnt get the memo and I dont like it.
I really hope you people know why the government is REALLY against (something so stupid) the tabacco companys. Its because the tabacco companys are not filling government pockets with money. Unlike OTHER companys who buy off the government everyday. Drug Companys, You KNOW its a pay off! When you people wake up and notice that OUR government is ONLY run by Big business, who pay millions to goverment officals, maybe then America has a chance of being a true FREE country.
The ban on cigarettes in bars lead to butts in the streets and parking lots. Thus butts wash into the drains and end up on the beach. What does my town do? They ban smoking on the beach!!! Ron Paul for individual freedoms.
I smoke too. I'm going to quit in January. I sure don't want the government to make this decision for me. I don't want laws making me a criminal if I fail in my attempt to quit.
WELL if it was illegal i and alot of others would be healthier and live a lot longer. Under your logic we should legalize everything heroin, guns granades, rocket launchers. because its not our fault if we cant control our actions which will ultimatly destroy our lives and others.
No, you take it out of federal hands. Does Oregon want smokes? No? Ok! Pass a state law! Does Texas want smokes? yes? Ok! Keep it like it is! That way the people get their say not Corp A with their Hukabot. If some state wants to legalese heroin and turn them selves into a crap hole let them. No one will go their. Basic competition, it has made this country great.
Notice how socialists are big fat fucks who can't take responsability for themselves. Michael Moore, Huckabee etc. Big fat disgusting fuckers. I'd like to punch them in the face so fucking hard.
Why the fuck do people think it is their job to condition others behavior?!?!??!? This idea drives me insane!!!.... It does not posion the air outside - that's ignorant rubbish.
Probably not healthy, but that is incidental to freedom which is the issue.
I agree with the indoor bans.
Smoking directly and visibly impacts the health of about 20% of smokers and kills about 5%.
The AMA etc would disagree, but they are fools.

And if someone is smoking in a confined space with children.. they should get a fine for it
thefakeyeti 4 years ago
I'm a Ron Paul supporter, currently living in Minnesota, home to a smoking ban in all restaurants and bars.
Ron Paul basically says do what you want... just don't hurt anyone. Well, the Surgeon General, W.H.O. and others say 2nd hand smoke is harmful.
A smoking ban DOES support freedom, the freedom to breathe clean air.

Hmm... The right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness(property). Banning an action which strips liberty and property doesn't seem very nice...
fatlard1337 3 years ago 3
"A smoking ban DOES support freedom, the freedom to breathe clean air"
Though I have to disagree with this point..
When you walk into a smoking building, it should say "This is a smoking environment"
Call it a disclaimer.. if you continue to go in.. call it your own stupidity.
Though In a ideal society. Bars and restaurants would still have the option for smoking.. but it would be in their best interest if they didnt allow it.. ie customers.
thefakeyeti 4 years ago 2
I dont smoke, I would like to enjoy the bar without it.
Freedom is what is fundemental here. If an establishment wants to allow or prohibit smoking it should be up to them, not Washington D.C.
mlincoln7783 4 years ago
Look this is a matter of personal choice. I lived in rural Washington when they passed the smoking law stating that you could no longer smoke indoors and you had to be 15 feet away from entrances windows and fans.
Okay that is fine. But in my small part of the world 2 restaurants allowed smoking and 7 didn't.
iluvamerica101 4 years ago
2 bars allowed smoking 4 didn't.
So let me recap this for you, remember this is rural Washington not a big city. If you were a waitress or bartender you had a choice of places to work.
If you wanted to go out to eat or drink you had a multiple choice. Smoking or non.
iluvamerica101 4 years ago
anytime the government tells you what to do it is very very bad. You give up personal freedom and personal responsibility.
iluvamerica101 4 years ago 2
All laws, federal, state or local come from those respective governments. If you don't like the law you can as politicians to change them. You can vote politicians in/out of office. That's freedom. But do you really think that when the government tell you what to do "it is very very bad"? Our government says to stop at stop signs, follow the speed limit, not to murder your neighbors. Those are good things and our government tells us that we MUST do these things!
pr2go 4 years ago
I am a smoker and here is my stance on the whole issue. If the government wants to ban smoking in a public area (lets say a park) that is all good with me. If they want to start baning me from smoking in my car on a road, or in my house, or in a private building when the owner wants to allow it, that is when I get mad.
killerfurball 4 years ago
I am a non-smoker, and I agree with you wholeheartedly. That last point, however, about 'a private building when the owner wants to allow it' wouldn't apply to a public restaurant or other workplace. I agree with your point, but I don't feel that it is in opposition to Huckabee's political stance.
Now, I'm not exactly clear on the intention of your comment, so please forgive me if I misinterpreted. In either case, though, I don't mean to sound confrontational.
: )
MrObese 4 years ago
Res truants would be private buildings, as in not government owned, or bars. Private buildings in this sense should be able to make their own rules regarding the matter. They had to repeal a law here to allow bar owners to allow smoking after there was a complete public ban on it. The age to smoke in a bar now (in Nashville) is 21, but I can go buy them at 18. It's stupid and as far as I am concerned the government shouldn't be poking their head into private institutions.
killerfurball 4 years ago
I work at a fabric "company"..
I believe they should be able to allow smoking in there..
BUT the customers should know.. and before they hire me.. they should warn me..
In another words.. it still probably would be in their best interest to not allow it..
How many customers would be sickened at the idea of their valances having cigarette scent on them?

Hell, ban it. i dont get it, a tax should be raised on tobacco and other unneccesary goods, smokers have the option to quit and should, just because they dont have the mental mindeset or will power to is their own fault
Allstater21 4 years ago
What would you consider unnecessary? Raise taxes on prime rib and not hamburger? After all, prime rib is a luxury not a necessity. Let's tax that riding mower, that's not necessary when you can push that old manual one around. Tax the hell out of taverns, they aren't necessary. You can buy what the tavern sells at any store and take it home. What do you need with a 500k home when you can get one for 200k? Is that necessary? Yer way too vague.
mrdivot22 4 years ago 2
smokers choose to get addicted to the product (you aren't addicted until after a few times of smoking)... therefore, unless inhibited by mental disease, it's a choice... if you choose to smoke you choose to pay the consequences, it's not a right
If I had the chance to vote in congress I'd vote to increase smoking taxes every chance I got, they deserve it for the burden it is on our defunct healthcare program
Mattwr01 4 years ago
Let's see now.. second hand smoke "may" be hazardous. There's no real hard evidence. Alcohol on the other hand is responsible for costing millions of dollars just to replace vehicles destroyed by drunk drivers each year. I'd say a ten dollar tax on each sixpack would even that score.
mrdivot22 4 years ago 2
being obese costs more in healthcare than smoking, lets make overeating illegal too. I could care less about the tax on it, what I care about is my rights as a property owner. I pay the mortgage, taxes, have the deed etc, MY RIGHT...bottom line.
usernametaken73 4 years ago 2
Sorry, but I remember back when smokers did not give a shit about my "rights" to smoke-free air when they were the majority. But now that they are only 20% we're supposed to support them polluting our air with carcinogens?
Suck it - in your home with sealed windows.

Your "right" to clean air ends at your property line. You are selfish if you and your ilk demand a sterile environment that follows you everywhere you go. Get back to your jogging behind that city bus.
mrdivot22 4 years ago
"You are selfish if you and your ilk demand a sterile environment ..."
Pot meet kettle.
No, it's your ilk that screams about "personal rights", yet can never give a well-reasoned and fair reason why I have to suffer for your "right" to stink up the place.
And talk about ass-backwards reasoning: your right to spew a toxic cloud ends at YOUR property line.
RoyBatty42 4 years ago
If there was freedom of choice there would be smoking and non-smoking establishments to choose from. I agree, you shouldn't have put up with the smoke. Problem is though, smokers do make up a significant segment and to treat them as outcasts isn't right. Let's send a quarter of the people outside in the rain and snow to smoke to catch colds because one person in the tavern might have asthma. The laws here are so strict it is illegal to even open a private smoking only club. Is that fair?
mrdivot22 4 years ago
a person can typically die easier from asthma than they can from a cold. Perhaps its best to build a smoking sanctuary.. or just quit smoking :)

Although possession of plutonium should be the death penalty.....

blingblingishere 4 years ago
This may be tough to argue but smoking has absolutely no benefit what so ever. Alcohol, i.e. wine, can actually be beneficial if it is consumed moderately; gun can take on the protection role in society... But cigarettes... I just can't find a reason how this product can be considered innocuous. Again, alcohol or gun, if used responsibly do not tend to be deleterious but smoking, even in moderate form can be detrimental.
ariakokoschka 4 years ago
You are missing the point......
DawsonLodge 4 years ago
I don't think you'll contribute much to the discussion with your quick one-liners. I never claimed it should be enforced as for the "missing the point" but rather draw a comparative analysis of pernicious consequences of alcohol, gun, and cigarettes. I might wish to minimize the usage of gun or abortion, but I surely hope the society itself take care of them rather being prohibited by the "law."
