  • We already live in Hell

  • Haha classic!

You do have a soothing voice. Not abrasive at all.

  • to me Hell would be living the one true life we know of as a brainwashed, mindless zombie of religion!

  • just sent this video to my girlfriend who go's to church every sunday

  • I Love You, I will Pray For You My Brother :-) Remember Brothers and Sisters, You do not need a religion to have God. God is Love, I Love him, and I Love every single one of you as equally :-)

  • I Love You, I will Pray For You My Brother :-)

  • @theparodyworks i myself as a christian can say that its not we christians that believe the world is gonna end in 2012 is the scientists that found that answear and you atheists believe in science dont ya ?

  • The deity of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic (Abrahamic) faith traditions didn't start out alone. The religous course went from polytheism, to henotheism (as Muller uses it), to monotheism (a strict montheism within Judaism and Islam, and a tripartite monotheism w/in trinitarian Christianity). The God of the 10 Commandments was the high deity. Elohim (longuistically related to Allah, both being Semitic), the plural of eloah [god] (or El [God]), describes the other deities.

  • @BishopNo You're right, of course, but however you describe them they are the imaginings of barbaric, tribal people. There is nothing about them that makes them superior to any other god ever imagined by humans. They are as capricious, spiteful, angry, vengeful, jealous and bloodthirsty as all the others. I have rejected them all.

  • @Largo64 Some of these same deities are also represented and viewed by their devotees as compassionate, merciful, just, grateful, loving, and good. How can they be these things while being capricious, spiteful, angry, vengeful, jealous and bloodthirsty? Because these attributes find their origin in humankind. The deity is the representation. The projection. And a way to try to find human terms for the very human, and thus complex, experience/perception of the transcendent.

  • @BishopNo That's very insightful. But because the deity (whatever a particular culture's name for him might be) IS the projection of human virtues AND faults, the idea that it is trancendent is all the worse. If people try to reflect all the characteristics of their god, and their god is just a reflection of them, the result is a like inbreeding. People may still try to emulate the worst characteristics of their god, just as he reflected the worst of theirs.

  • @Largo64 I think that Fowler's theory of faith development is worth looking at here. Most people don't seem to mature in their faith development to stage 5 (Conjunctive Faith), where, as Fowler once said in an interview, "we are ready for allegiances beyond our tribal gods and tribal taboos." I would say that the people (who seem to be the majority) criticized by those who comdemn religion as a whole are living in a conformist and adolescent stage of faith development.

  • @BishopNo I have to balance out what I've just posted by adding that one of the underlying causes of these critiques of religion, as manifested in the Fowler's 3rd stage (Synthetic [i.e. synthesis] Conventional, where God is a "personal reality"), could be that these critics, who are in stage 4 (Individuative/ Reflective), feel embittered with and betrayed by the belief-systems that they have come to find unsatisfactory. Of course, this is theory. I bring it up because I find it relevant.

  • @BishopNo That's part of our dilemma, one only has to read their so called literal word of god(bible) and it will give one plenty of examples of every emotion and spite and hate etc etc. All exhibited by their god of the bible for one. The bible is the most contradictory book ever written by mankind...so if you need to know how a person can be evil nasty and at the same time angelic in regard....you figure it out,we have, it's easy, THERE IS NO GOD(s)

  • i love the way you're explaining things!

  • @theparodyworks Thanks! It's nice to see a kind word now and then. FSM knows there's no shortage of unkind ones. ;^)

  • Intelligent, obviously well-thought, and nicely articulated. It amazes me the vitriol and poison generated by the "chosen ones" when someone dares question religion.

Yeah, sign me up for that. Not.

Great job. I enjoy your video takes, but don't understand the pointing to "links" to your right or left... is that on your channel?

    Anyways. Interesting. Thought provoking.

  • @dustoff7 The pointing thing is because the information box used to be to the upper right of the screen. Since I did this YT changed the page format. I always used to point to the box. It just isn't where it used to be!

  • @Largo64 No worries! Thanks for the reply! Keep up the work; truly compelling and quite useful as support for arguments of my own in other media (Facebook, of course).

  • You may be the most unintelligent person I have ever met. Get an education you are lying and are a bias asshole atheist. Please get an education before posting you bias and dumb videos. You sicken me.

  • @alex21rw If you disagree with me, suppose you make an argument instead of flinging insults. Your remarks are typical of ignorant people who don't like something but can't say why.

  • @Largo64 there are so many but fine i will answer through a video.

  • SATAN!!!! :P

  • @knoketj, picking questions from people who can't articulate their feelings ? First of all, these questions were sent to him. If these people, " whom you call stupid " do not want an answer from an intellectual, perhaps the "stupid " should ask questions to the "stupid ".

@KO3NO, You can indulge in anything your whole life including sin, or follow God. According to God, you may sin, all he cares of is that you accept him, hence the reason im confused as to why he sent his son to die for our sin

  • God it the reason WHY and Science is HOW

Get out of line and Commissar Fuklaw is there to beat the living sh*t out of anyone

  • God is the reason WAY and Science is HOW.

Get out of line and Commissar Fuklaw is the PAIN and the POWERBOOT UP YOUR ASS

  • Its funny how you chose the questions from people not able to articulate their feelings in a scholarly way. An obvious superior intlectual mind would not need to pick on peoples beliefs to gain pleasure, yeah right! LOL You are a work old man, a work in deed. Good luck to you. God is great

  • It's a comfort to listen to rational debate. So glad there is rational debate on a subject matter one usually has to pass in awkward silenced taboo. Keep up the good work Largo64

  • The bible clearly states if you choose to turn away you will perish in hell for entirity. You choose to follow christ. Its your own free will, the gift from it is eternal life. God knows everyones path before it happens. People pray for many reasons, he always provides. Jesus was a man he had to suffer agonizing pain for our sins. And he was sacrificed for you. So saying its a fraud is pointless. He went through death. Old testiment were under different law then new testiment.

  • @K03N0 Of course the bible clearly states. The bible says a lot of things that are not true. But you are mistaken when you say you will perish in hell for eternity. If you perish, you are simply dead. That's what the word means. At least get the threat right, hmmm? What you meant was you will dwell in hell for eternity. And as I told this person in the video, fear is just a tool to keep people in line. It's necessary to keep them fearful, so they don't question.

  • cont. As to the "sacrifice," the "plan of salvation," the idea is disgusting. Allowing someone else to suffer and die for whatever wrongs YOU have done is the very type of injustice. The plan is both unjust and immoral. That you would permit another to take responsibility for your sins speaks more to your character than to the "goodness" of the scapegoat.

  • @K03N0 what is "free will" - Pain forever more or Christianity (sounds like my way or the highway ) - that is only 2 choices? As for your Jesus, so he suffered but did he die - in the true sense, to die and not come back zombie like or otherwise? Suffering absolute pain to atchive immortality... I can see a line forming now of eager people.

  • you can induldge your whole life do whatever you want. No rules sin all you want. Or you can live your life for god and follow his word. Its your own choice. Follow your own "morals" as athiest tend to say. Shoot someone in the face, hey if you think its right, of course it is! I also know i cant change your mind and your look on life through youtube bickering. IN the end you will make your choice.

  • i'll tell u honestly. i love this life because i can find people like u.

this world is not totally deluded. there is a hope. unite!

    continue, man!

sadly, we live in a such stupid deluded world that makes us show to people how stupid they r. but soon a big change will come. now religious stupidity is obvious to many people. unite! spread zeitgeist!

  • If we should worship the Christian god because he can kill us, think about this.

H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu is a horrible butcher. His faithful worshipers will be rewarded by being the first to die. If that's the reward for the faithful, imagine how terrible the non-believers will suffer. I suggest we convert to worshiping the Great Old Ones on the off chance that Lovecraft was a prophet and not just a sci-fi writer.

  • @HolySchtick One sci-fi writer prophet is enough!

    Duck! It's a flying Thetan!

  • Yeah, but at least Lovecraft was good at it.

Damned Thetans! Knew I shoulda put a rush order on my E-Meter.

  • @HolySchtick LOL!

  • God dont wants you to go to hell you are going there because you want to. he can save you if you believe in him. why is that so hard to understant. you say all this things because you wanna keep sinning and sinning and you dont want ti accept the reality

  • @MrLamaravilla25

r u awake or sleeping when u write? seems that u lunaticising.

why this mature rational and nice guy has to go to hell? why u thing he wants to go somewhere? why he should to go somewhere?

to which god's hell he will go? buddah's or allah's? or dzeus' or jesus's?

r u crazy? u need help, my dear.

change is coming soon. religion stupidity is obvious to many people now.

  • God dont need us we need him. what an ignorant. God is love if he gave his own son because he loves you dont you get it

  • If He gave His own son I don't wanna know what He could do to a stranger!

By the way I love that sentence " God is love if he gave His own son..." really? c'mon, the guy is a lausy father! Wasn't He suppose to be perfect!

  • Thank you very much for another great video! Keep up the good work.

  • i am glad there are actually some decent smart people on youtube. thank you for the great informative video's. keep up the great work.

  • what i said below goes to murdaman702

  • prodigyat9, lol, hard to buy into something when you can't see the salesman !

  • Comment removed

  • oh and who are u 2 say what a "GOD" is suppose 2 be like? and sorry 2 burst your bubble but there is historical and scientific evidence that jesus did exsist

  • @murdaman702 Care to cite it for me, Sparky? If it's Josephus you can forget it. Josephus was a Jew who was born about thirty years after the alleged Jesus' death. The "Testimonium Flavianum," supposedly Josephus' work, was an interpolation by a third century Catholic bishop named Eusebius. Strangely, he was the first to "quote" the Testimonium. So where's your "evidence?"

  • actually instead of just believing everything your told, take time to watch all 3 parts of the "Zeitgeist [Religion] The Greatest Story Ever Sold" videos, they are all based on FACTS and even though you will probably be stubborn and not take the time to actually think about it they point out alot of interesting things

  • u need 2 learn 2 be able 2 tell the difference between fact and propaganda

  • i need to be able to tell the difference? HAHAHAHA ok i can tell your just gonna be one of those stubborn ridiculous unnegotiable people who wont listen to anything whether its the truth or not so whatever you keep praying to some fuck who will never answer you. its unbelieveable how many questions you could get asked about the existence of god and respond with something other than an answer

  • true, facts are demonstrated, propaganda is in a book preached by pedophiles.

  • religion is a load of crap but zeitgeist is an even BIGGER load of crap.

when zeitgeist quotes a book from 1800's with no credibility to explain religion... it is not much better than religion itself.

  • there is some things about god we cant explain and things about science we cant explain,...I pray 4 u sir

  • @murdaman702 Thanks for your prayers, if you mean it. I don't believe in prayer, but if you do I can only say your intentions are good.

Do me a favor, will u? Save the txt riting 4 whn u r really running out of space. Thnx.

  • Jasonthegaiface, our bodies are individually programed but yet in a " set " way for us to act ? So if a person murders, all people are programed to indulge in the same action ? Your theory sounds more like robotics from an industrial mechanical business line rather than human characteristics. Human Nature i presume is the theory you're projecting. Funny though how some can be violent, others adverse !

Human template ? A being primordial and a modern human ? THE SAME ?

  • I love you and your belief ,jus make sure you dont die an early death with this what i can call anger. Athiest you are, but chill a bit. God that sounds so rubbish but, well i think you know where i am coming from, RELAX. The BOOK and any religion followed by the letter is obviously stupid, we cant even get history and the timeline correct, so why trust a book from whenever ago? yours truly, keith

  • Nicely done. I'm really enjoying your videos.

  • That's so funny. I'm still laughing while typing this.

  • Great job, I subscribed. :)

  • Nicely done. Keep it coming.

  • Great video! You make a lot of sense Largo64! Me and my cousin are only atheists in our family and we both enjoyed your video.

  • The human body and mind is a complicated series of electricity and chemicals that work in patterns of links sent from the brain to trigger movement/emotion ect, even if we believe we have free will the reality is that we dont, our brains are programmed individually to perform tasks neccesary for our survival, however our bodies are individually programmed they are still programmed in a set way for us to act (a human template).

  • I've never read more than a few passages from the bible, way back in sunday school as a kid. However, from the point of view of an educated adult, much of it seems to be batshit crazy. It's almost as though the whole thing was really just made up by some bronze age control freaks in order to scare people into living a certain way. How do the believers justify the nonsense?

  • For all the insanity you see in the Bible, isn't in strange that atheists are such a small minority?

  • No doubt atheists are a minority, but I think they are a larger minority than many people think. When people are polled on their beliefs, often doubters are loath to admit it, especially if believing relatives are nearby.

  • I don't know; considering how many religions there are and how many churches I think it is pretty interesting how many people bought into none of the religions.

  • I was directed here by KingHeathen under the impression that this video is incredibly astute and well-done; I am not disappointed. Good job! Keep up the good work.

  • extremely well put enjoyed it immensely

    5 stars

  • There are more than 30000 christian denominations, all with different interpretations of the bible, so being christian does NOT help in understanding "god's word".

  • Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

  • I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath.Exodus 35:2. Clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

  • I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness - Leviticus 15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

  • Religious people tend to believe in a deity resembling themselves. Isn't it curious!? A god that is full of hate, retribution, animosity and sadism. Hmm, interesting! An intelligent and almighty entity that for some unknown reasons cares whether I believe in him or not. Only an ignorant/thoughtless person could fear such a notion. . .

  • I enjoyed your views, and opinion. Great video. I find it redundant, that christians seek to prove their points through the scripture of the bible. If one does not believe in the bible and sees those who wrote it to be full of crap for lack of a better term. I cannot take the stories told in the bible as fact for that requires faith, which I lack. I would like to hear you speak about this in some future video.

  • "...only an imaginary god in the image of the believer has any need."

    Very interesting thoughts!

  • No, im not RingofFire22, I just saw what he said and completely agree. Sounds exactly like the answers Hitchens gave in his debate with Al Sharpton, with some other exact sentences from countless debates I've seen

  • @MrYouHaveNoClue I never heard or saw a debate between Richard Dawkins and Al Sharpton. So far I don't know which words you or that other troll are talking about. When I quote someone word for word I use those little marks that look like this (" ") and attribute the words to their author. But similar ideas are not plagiarism. For the last time, quote me the exact words you are talking about. Now you are just being a troll. Plagiarism is a serious charge, and you'd better fucking prove it!

  • @Largo64 Theres a difference in restating something in your own words and taking someones exact words out of context, what don't you understand about that

  • @MrYouHaveNoClue Is this RingofFire22 in a sock account?Of course there is a difference, but I did not do that. I never consciously stole anything in my life. I'm not stupid. I know thousands of people could be seeing what I say. Suppose you show me the words I'm supposed to have stolen. I've been containing myself pretty well so far, but I'm really getting pissed at this bullshit plagiarism charge! Produce the "exact words" you think I stole or shut the fuck up!

  • hello largo64.

i see you have 4069 subscribers,

and many people love your videos.

Take my advise and sign up for the youtube parner program.

    bye for now

  • @Largo64,

Perhaps Ringo is just hiding his blatant homosexuality because it's against God. I mean if he's seeing penises (peni?) instead of a human head, he's clearly gay.

  • I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

  • Depends... is she cute?

    ... what?

  • @Largo64 You don't have any genuine material to present. "But what you accused me of was plagiarism, not accepting and restating an idea" You took words from other brilliant people and put them into your own without giving any credit at all to the original source. Now I know your about to turn 90 but in 2009 in any scholarly setting that is plagiarism. Obviously this isn't a scholarly setting but for argument sake and because of your overall disposition I felt it necessary to bring up.

  • @MrYouHaveNoClue We imbibe ideas from all over. Presenting them in our own words is how we communicate what we think. Unless you attribute every idea you speak to a teacher or a book you've read, by your definition you, too, are a plagiarist. I don't thiknk you are, but you are being ridiculous here. RingofFire22 admitted he was merely trolling. Are you such a child that you have to follow suit?

  • Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?

  • In my opinions of the Bible and of 1 male religions, I have come to the same answers you have; almost word for word, only the experiences are different. People must learn that "When there's fear there can be no love, where there's love there can be no fear." (Lisa Thiel) A god wouldn't need to have petty human emotions. Thanks for your videos!!! Keep them coming!!!

  • When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbours. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

  • You're being trolled old man, welcome to the internet. You make good points but your condescending attitude makes you unbearable to even watch in my opinion. Although I do believe that you have pretty much taken lots of what Christopher Hitchen has said in lots of debates and reworded it to your liking, it doesn't really matter your videos get 1k views which probably are half yours commenting to people who troll youtube for pure enjoyment.

  • @RingofFire22 Well, let's see. I doubt that my 4000+ subscribers would agree with you. But you have a perfect right to feel condescended to - and to go somewhere else for entertainment. I have read Hitchens, of course. But what you accused me of was plagiarism, not accepting and restating an idea, IF that's what it was. You ARE a troll. You've been fed now, so you can go away.

And now you ARE blocked. I don't like trolls.

  • My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16.Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

  • I will look for it, and when I find it you'll have to admit your head resembles that of a penis. Then you may go back to your condescending way of making videos and being useless =)

  • @RingofFire22 So... if you don't find it... do you have to admit that you ARE a penis?

  • @RingofFire22 I await your "proof" with bated breath. I don't know what you expect from anyone. Ideas about the same subject will sound similar, but everyone expresses them in his own way. So did I. Why are you being such a jerk? Does it make you feel powerful to twit someone older than your father? Can you really believe you are on some kind of truth crusade? You are simply wrong.

  • @Largo64 You know, if I really were copying someone else's writing without attribution I would have blocked you and removed your insulting messages. As you see, your accusation is still here, and you are free to dig your own pit deeper and deeper until you have to admit there is no such written work.

I don't doubt you will find something you think is similar. But plagiarism is taking other people work whole and claiming it as your own. I have never done that. When I quote, it is with " ".

  • You're reading word for word from something I have seen somewhere on the internet, I honestly can't remember where...But you are plagiarizing. Old ignorant chode

  • Insulting others occurs usually in forums when you got nothing intelligent to say against someone's argument. Therefore, it is a pathetic way to hide self-uncapability.

  • I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

  • @RingofFire22 I am reading word for word from what I wrote. If you think you heard it someplace else, I can only say that no ideas, including yours, are likely to be entirely original. I expressed what I knew in my own words. If you insist that you saw or heard the identical words elsewhere, produce them. When you can't (and you can't) you will have to admit that you are a liar.

  • You're reading things that other somewhat intelligent but still close minded atheists have written. Why are you taking claim to these responses? Pathetic.

  • @RingofFire22 I'm reading what I wrote about what I think. Do you imagine that all your ideas are entirely original? I don't. If you don't like what I have to say, go away. But don't accuse me of plagiarism.

  • You think you are a open minded person as a bliever? But you think believers of other religions will burn eternally in hell... How can you call us close-minded?

  • Larry your awesome. keep it up.

  • Good stuff

  • THIS video is one of the prime examples as to why I subscribed to you Larry...

  • Largo, this is easily one of your best videos. I had a blast watching it!

  • one of your best videos in a long time (and that's saying a lot!)

Do me a favor...send this video to me in a PM with the title "Awards" so that I will not forget it when covering this month's nominees.

  • Bravo Larry!

  • Thank you Larry Logic has never been my strong suit so I truly appreciate it in others.

  • I have to say this is one of your better videos for a few decent reasons. 1. No rammbling 2 Straight to the point and not rude 3 Very clear and understanding way of putting correct logic!

But still there will be the ones in Faith that will be brainwashed for the rest of their lives!!!

  • A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

  • your a joke lets believe in something that was put together to make money! Its a lie stop referencing the three little pigs! Man even the smartest people can be idiots!

  • I love the fingerprint question. He would be making the exact same argument if all fingerprints were identical.

  • Very few christians seem to understand the obvious flaws in their religion. Great video.

  • Good job!

  • Also, I simply do not get this: if Jesus(=God) teaches christians to be loving, compassionate, turning the other chin, and all that jazz from the cermon on the Mount, why on the other end does he not practise that ideology himself? I mean, if you don't believe, you will burn in hell or be punished and not get into heaven? Hello? Double standards, anyone?

  • Re death/sacrificing of Jesus: since Jesus, according to the trinity, is God and is not God, but is God (yeah!?), he knew that he would be reunited with himself(!) in "Heaven" anyhow, so by sacrificing himself, he really did no such thing. He knew what would happen. It's utter BS.

So why on earth do christians believe he did such a noble thing when he did not? It's sad really.

  • As usual, clear, concise and compelling.

  • Great Vid! Hope you don't mind but I might to use some of your analogies in my next debate with a christian!

  • @wade46732 Be my guest.

  • Luke 4:6

Why did Satan try to tempt Jesus into worshiping him? if infact Jesus was god what sense would there be in that?

  • @Obasiliasfilosofos Excellent question, especially in view of the fact that Satan, would know that the world he offered Jesus already belonged to Jesus. That is, if you accept ANY of what is written in the ancient tome. Why, in the story, did Jesus not tell Satan that. "Get thee behind me," seems a rather weak response. Why didn't the writer have him say, "Who are you kidding? I already own the world, and the people . . . and YOU!" Now that would have made it a more interesting story.

  • I prayed for understanding when I read the bible, and sure enough, I understood it! Now does that mean that Elohim answered my prayer? I don't think so because my understanding of the Bible is part of the reason I became an atheist!

    Great vid! 5/5*****

  • When I was in my teens, my mother told me at least a dozen times that denying the holy spirit (non-Christian) is the only unforgivable sin. She included that even rape and murder are forgivable, but denying the Lord is never forgivable.

In her eyes, rape and murder is better than atheism or any other religion. She had said things such as God let The Holocaust happen, God let 9/11 Happen, God let genocide happen, and God was an all-knowing all-loving being. Now that's true brainwashing.

  • Very well said and I agree 100%.

  • Hah, I enjoyed the schoolyard bully reference.

  • Great response, five stars.

PS. I think the "10 minute" limit, is in fact 10 minute 59 second limit.

  • @Saukko31 I have seen a few videos go over, but I have been cut of in mid word at 9:59. There are a few old director accounts that have a much longer limit, and they were grandfathered in when the policy changed. But most of us still get cut off at ten or close to it. It's inconsistent.

  • Ah, OK.

  • Very good video. I've always liked your arguments. I am not ashamed to admit that ive stolen more than one when having my own argument/discussion with my Christian friends.

Keep up the good work, Largo.

  • Very well put. I've had many the same responses to people over the years.

  • Good solid reasoning, as ever, Larry!

  • I love how you give an example of the toddler. It's true, religion teaches you to stumble, and not think for yourself. And when you do stumble, they want to punish you and tell you that you will burn in hell for eternity. Where do these idiotic religious people get their ideas from? from their own nightmares?

  • Good comment. I'm scared every day but don't turn to "God" or gods I turn to me and my wife and freinds!

  • Good for you. Friends and family are important, and it's great that you have that support in your life. It's real, and you're not wasting time praying to the air for answers LOL.

  • from other brainwashed people reading parts of the bible to them that they chose and gave their backwards reasoning for the way god does things from a very early age, repitition etc.

  • Everything you say make enormous sense, yet you know they (theists) have none...

    Happy Chrismahannahkwaanzaka! ;)

  • Great video i agree

  • I think the religious believe (or pretend to believe as the case may be, after all, if anyone really believed in hell, would they ever even think of sinning again???) because they tell themselves that their imaginary friend is the source of hope. when they try to imagine a world without god, they think of hopelessness. This would go a long way towards explaining the problem of prayer too. the cognitive dissonance must be enormous!

  • The fall of sand is not random but determined by force of throw, air resistance, gravity, wind, number of grains etc. incredibly complex but not random.

  • yeah, random doesn't exist in our universe, random would be if the moon just suddenly flew off with no cause

  • @Ch35h1r3C47 Random is defined as chance, or haphazard. You are just defining random in terms of what causes the differences. If it were possible for all the grains to fall in an identical pattern one might infer design. If you can imagine two identical tosses of perhaps a million grains of sand, your imagination is far beyond the limits of any earthly reality. It literally can't happen.

  • constant physical laws determine the outcome of a coin toss or the fall of grains of sand. if the circumstances and all forces were replicated exactly then the same result would occur. similarly if we could calculate the change that one factor causes to the whole system we would be able to predict exactly what the resulting outcome.

obviously we cant and the calculations and considerations would be insanely complex. for all intents and purposes to us the outcome is chance.

  • You said something about free will. I've been looking for evidence of free will and I have not seen any. If you have any I would love to know. I fully expect that what we perceive as free will is nothing more than cause and effect in the brain. But there are too many bowling balls hitting too many pins for us to see it.

  • @theoriginalSkooby Free will could be another extended debate. What I mean when I say free will is volition, the act or the power of making a choice. Who controls your every thought and movement if not you? And if your will is not free, how can you be held responsible for anything at all? I mean held responsible by your peers, not some god.

  • If the world, including our brains, are all explained by cause and effect then the punishment for bad actions would logically be covered by that process. I would like to believe in some sort of free will. I just don't see any avenue for it to be possible. Which is why I often ask if anyone has any evidence for it.

  • Well done, Larry!

  • Good video Larry. I also have have difficulties at comprehending why an all powerful god would create such strict and frankly arbitrary rules, and yet at the same time allow another being to tempt humanity into breaking them

  • ...cont... just respect each other, 'cause we're all the same thing.

Sorry it was such a long comment. I get excited talking about religion. Maybe I'll make a video of my own.

  • I hate the 500 character limit, too. But if your unlimited PMs are anything like the ones I sometimes receive they can go pages.

    ;^)

  • ... cont... the truth, then a) he is a cunt if he plans to punish anyone who doesn't believe in him without offering any proof of his existence and b)if he is meant to be all loving I doubt he would want us to all kill each other over his name.

I think we're all just energy. Eternally flowing into something new. I don't think there was a 'beginning' of time that we just NEED to find a CAUSE for. I think it's just this eternal bunch of something that we happen to be in and we should all... CONT

  • That last comment was preemptive.

    Largo, this video is fantastic.

You aired lots of my own thoughts on religion here as well as some things I never even thought of.

I'm not an atheist. I was a Christian but believed it important to understand the religion I was tied into. I let it go once I understood it well enough to realise its flaws.

    I don't know what I believe anything. I think it's more like Spinoza's 'god'.

If something like the personal 'god' of the Christians is in fact.. CONT

  • ** Delete the word "anything"

    damn typos lol

  • The stumbling toddler analogy was brilliant!!

  • Note: the limit is 10:59

  • I'm trying to understand the logic of the christian that made the "fingerprints are different! Isn't that design?!" question...

    Really, WTF?!

  • Way to go Larry! You used common sense to refute these retards!

  • Excellent, would make a great series. As you pointed out, jealousy is hardly a redeeming feature in mortals, but for a god to be jealous of supposedly none existent gods suggests paranoid delusion. As to the 'correct' understanding of the Bible, which of the 1000's of Christian denominations has the 'correct' interpretation?

  • Larry, (also the names of my father and brother) please do more Q&A videos. Your analogies are awesome.

  • like deuteronomy 20:10-14 kill all in a town but keep the virgin girls, deut22:28-29 rape is ok if you have some silver with you. or deut 22:23-24 kill the rape victim for not screaming loud enough

or solomons song about boobs. Zachariah 14:1-2 god wants the world to ravish all the women of his chosen ppl

yes god is love the love of rape murder violence and ignorance. I think most ppl even convicts would make better gods than the one of the bible

  • @TheReptilianAgenda Some convicts certainly. The god of the bible is vicious, brutal, capricious, jealous and petty. He has none of the characteristics of a great human leader and all of the ones of the worst humans. No human despot, no matter how evil can match the flood for pure malice. All but eight people destroyed. And the "righteous" man he chose couldn't wait to get drunk as soon as the materials were available again. So god was not a judge of character either.

  • "solomans song about boobs..."

The bible's getting pretty tempting round about now :P

  • in genesis where it said man was created in the image of God, the original sumerian text says GODS....the text has been manipulated over the ages....power hungry institutions...but reptilian agenda do you not think the spirit to be real?

  • "Reptilian agenda"? Rofl.

  • that's the guys user name

  • Well then, that certainly makes your sentence read much clearly and me look like a presumptive horses ass. Totally my bad there, sorry :). I'll read previous posts more carefully in the future.

  • It would be nice to be able to exist without a body. Maybe after its all used up, to be able to travel the universe like disembodied eyes. think of all the mundane and extraordinary adventures one could have here and elsewhere. However all we can guarantee is the here and now. Watch the most recent QualiaSoup video i think he can word it better than i could but it seems not.

  • i love these videos, larry. thanks for uploading :)

  • Freedom doesn't come from fear... fear damages freewill...

  • One more to favorites!

  • I loved your commentary on jealousy ;) Excellent all around.

  • Hm. Some bible scholar once said that fundamentalists don't like the bible they have. The same propably goes for their god.

  • If you could reason with religious people, there would be no more religious people.

    - Gregory House (TV show)

I am beginning to believe this each day I speak with my family...

and their reasoning issues tent to leak into other areas of reasoning too.

  • great points. spec. on the freewil thing.
