  • I also have a blade 400 yet I am a newbie to CP having only flown a micro coax before. I enjoy your podcasts with James and the wisdom you both share in this hobby. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and advise.

    Ron Ressler

  • @ronressler Hey Ron, thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoy the podcast. :)

  • What ESC are you using?

  • @tptompkins1 Castle Phoenix 25.

  • Interesting Comparison between the 2 Headspeeds. Regarding the Hyperion Servos DS09 Were they a drop in fit to the Blade 400 frame with no sanding or drilling?? Thanks

  • @solaris3000 Yep, they drop right in. In fact, since they are slightly thinner than the stock servos it's a bit easier to install the back two servos since they aren't so tightly packed in the openings.

  • loch ness ???? weirdo...

  • thanks for the info, i thought it was a 401 gyro but wasn't sure as it was hard to see in the video.

    happy flying...

  • nice, what gyro, servo's etc did you use with this as the stock gyro, servo's etc are not very good.

  • It's got a Futaba GY401 and Hyperion DS09 digital servos.

  • Have you ever tried or seen anybody use the HeliTach app for the iphone? Supposed to work great on electric heli's.

What field do you fly at in Austin? I am in College Station with the Brazos valley modelers.

    Andrew

  • I've not seen it in use, but it seems to get good reviews. I usually fly at Austin Radio Control Association's field (when I'm not at the local park).

  • Is that a Protos Canopy of the Blade 400?

  • Nope, it's a Blade 400 canopy just painted in the same colors as a Protos.

  • GREAT!

  • Im just clearifing, Did you say 1600mah batt, and if so what brand? I was told to get any real time out of it to get 2200mah batts. And very nice vid, Informative and good flyin.

  • Yep, 1600. They are G-Force from ValueHobby. Get the 1800 though, almost the same weight and a bit more flight time. Low headspeed and light weight is the key to long flights on small packs.

  • Thank you. I will look into it.

  • Not only did you get a good flight demo, but your wife found loch ness! I get a good laugh out of her comments in your vids.

  • Thanks! She's definitely good for a giggle. Well, and other things too of course. :^)

  • Nice work Chris!

  • Forgot, it made it sound like you were flying with a bad pack.

  • I dunno, your obviously a fan of the Protos canopy. That HS may work in texas but it would be more of a kite in the UK ;) We ain't had dead calm for ??. Yes i saw Nessie Liz, i also saw father christmas & the tooth fairy (flying the blade) LOL.

  • Wait... are you saying I'm old? :^p Yeah, that 1900 rpm setting is best for those late evening/early morning sorties. At 2500 it's really nice and locks in as well as one can expect for a 680g heli on 335mm blades.

  • Old? Never. I did worry a tad when you hovered inverted. It just goes against the norm.

  • Definitely. But it freaks me out less than flying backwards! I'm still working on that in the sim. The term "old dog, new tricks" comes to mind.

  • But backards is the right way up ; ) Old dog eh, your certainly no Justin Chi. Your a good pilot & i like your flying style.

  • Thanks, if I keep trying I'll maybe be good someday. I think it's that "up is down and down is up + cross-controlled rudder and ailerons" that messes with my brain in backwards flight. LOL

  • Great flying great wife wish mine was so understanding well done to both

  • Thanks! Liz is definitely a keeper. ;^)

  • I saw the monster Liz!

  • Shhh.... Don't encourage her! ;^)
