you're an uneducated RETARD. Communism is a failed economic policy, Atheist is opening your mind to reality and not living a lie and being controlled ny others. Get a life you christofacist douchebag.
Man doesn't need religion or a lack thereof to commit evil.
There is good and evil. We designed morals. There are no gods, it is presumptive to underestimate man for creating something so basic. We've even improved healthcare and the methods for wiping our butts. Being nice to the kitty and the kid next door probably helps keep the neighborhood friendly.
Your example of Russian Communists doing atrocities simply shows that atrocities will happen whether in the name of a god or other things either way. Therefore belief in a god does not prevent atrocities. Furthermore, the trend seems to be that it is the secular societies that act much more civil than others that could condone uncivilized behavior, because a god desires it.
And yet, the Christians "Moral Law Giver" has been proven time and time again to be immoral to the point where we have to correct his mistakes.
He call slavery moral, and yet it is illegal and immoral in our world.
He calls for the public execution of homosexuals and "unruly" children, and yet this is against our law.
He calls for the execution of "Witches" which we know to be ridiculous, and also know un-told thousands of therefore innocent people were tortured and executed over the centuries.
"Atheism is simply the lack of belief in god." --- wrong, thats AGNOSTICism, if youre truly athiest then you strongly BELIEVE & have (here it comes again) FAITH in something you cant prove (sounds religious to me) ------ " It has nothing to do with doing away with religion" - tell that to Dawkins & Hitchens who are openly trying to irradicate religion perminantly (Ted Turner too) .
"proof of one committing atrocities "in the name of NOT God" - um, dude, its been done, did you not realize he was talking specifically about COMMUNISM, an ideology that CLEARLY espouses NONreligion & imprisonment or DEATH to those who are religious? Communism by default has to irradicate religion, it is inherantly athiestic, ie the STATE is the highest authority, & 140 million people died while thousands of Communists in power were chasing that "dream" of an athiest society
@NYClife2007 No, in the societies that we call communist, all of which have really been military dictatorships running on quasi-socialist models, the government simply replaced worship of god with worship of State or "Dear Leader". It was still religion.
your understanding of the "point" of those Nations is woefully off.
"... you can't have a moral law without a moral law giver."
Morality was around a LONG time before religion falsely claimed a monopoly on it. Even dogs have a sense of property ownership (and understand the concept of 'theft' by other dogs), and show love etc. to their owners. Perhaps they have access to some invisible animal bible that we don't know about? Try reading something other than your bible... or just open your eyes and observe reality!
I'd like to point out that there have been many horrible crimes committed by people who don't collect stamps. In fact an overwhelming majority of murderers rapists and other violent criminals don't collect stamps, so isn't it just obvious that not collecting stamps can easily lead you to commit violence!?
Your so called moral law giver aka God is not your source of morals sir. If he was your source of morals then you would think its perfectly okay to do things like: Stone women to death for adultery, and stone fags to death for being gay. You get your morals from your society, environment, and your parents.
In the past hundred years or so, the most powerful atheist regimes--Communist Russia, Communist China, and Nazi Germany--have wiped out people in astronomical numbers...Focusing only on the big three-- Stalin, Mao, and Hitler--we have to recognize that atheist regimes have in a single century murdered more than one hundred million people.
Religion wasn't abolished in the Soviet Union. Stalin needed the clergy cleansed just like the with his officers. It was not about abolishing faith, it was about following the will of the new regime. The orthodox church remained a very important tool for them, because the nation didn't change "atheistic" overnight. No one would have survived if the reason behind all that bloodshed was an attempt to abolish religion, as you claim. There was no "atheistic" idea behind that, there's no such thing.
So if people believe in God, what does God believe in? If there is not a higher power after God then he has nothing to believe in, and as a result becomes an atheist.
So by default God is evil according to your argument.
Religion by itself is not evil BUT has to be kept in check (so it doesn't physically hurt people, take away their rights etc). Killing in Russia was NOT DONE IN THE NAME OF ATHEISM. I would read you a history book, but you could use the whole library my friend. Nice how your whole argument crumbles like a cookie, huh? Humans make their own morals. (Society). If it is a hard thing to grasp (I don't know why it would be) you my friend need to get educated and expose yourself to different cultures.
Just because you abolish religion doesn't mean you are atheist because the soviet union while they did abolish religion followed their leaders with such passion that they became god in the eye of the people. same with the Nazi regime North Korea, and Maoist china.
@skinnyman1423 That is essentially what every atheist is actually doing...They claim in their own minds that there is no God--in turn they have decided to become a god (emphasis little "g" ) to themselves. No one to answer to except what they find entertaining. So the Nazi regime, Communist Russia, and Communist China in the past century have shown to be clearly atheist by definition.
I'm not seeing the correlation between people deitising themselves and the various regimes being atheist by definition. Since Atheism is the rejection of the existence of a deity for them to see themselves as a deity (god) they would be rejecting their own existence. The statement "no one to answer to except what they find entertaining" makes little to no sense, it's like saying Lenin followed communism because he found it amusing.
@skinnyman1423 An atheist by definition states that there is no God. So the correlation is that they are putting themselves above God Almighty. That is idol worship because an atheist is saying that ones own ideas are better than the Lord Jesus. They are not rejecting a God essentially because they have not put Him away--they have simply replaced him with themselves. Remember the devil told Eve "Did God really say,?"...So an atheist can play "What if" games all day long
How can you put yourself above something that you say doesn't exist? That isn't idol worship because you are rejecting the existence of any deity thus you are not worshiping anything. They are not saying that one's ideas are better, they're rejecting the existence of a deity. How can your ideas be better than the idea of non-existing entity? They are REJECTING the EXISTENCE of a DEITY they have made him non existing there is nothing to replace as deicide has been committed.
@skinnyman1423 An atheist has replaced God because they are saying that he does not Exist...therefore they by definition have called him a LIAR! So the Bible is clear .."You shall have no other gods before Me." Many things today have replaced God and have become an idol. So by not giving Jesus worship and saying he does not exist you must believe your own ideas or another persons ideas that directly violate the command not to worship anybody else or anything else including false notions.
How do you replace something that does not exist?; I can't replace a vase that does not exist. God being non existent cannot be called a liar it isn't possible to call a non existing entity a liar. And since god doesn't exist the bible is fiction. Check mate.
@skinnyman1423 lol if you what to play that game.....I can not say a vase that clearly exists does not exist. That would make me a liar. So just because in my mind i say the vase does not exist does not mean the vase does not exist. God exist and if you say that he does not...who would be a LIAR. Good Day Sir, i unchecked your mate :)
@skinnyman1423 Also friend, the Bible is actually God's revelation to man about Jesus Christ and is historically accurate on all levels. Nothing has proved more true to each archaeological find not to mention the test of time. The Dead Sea Scrolls are now visible online so if you would like to see for yourself, you are more then welcome too. So an atheist may not believe God-- but they cannot doubt by looking at the facts that the Bible has not been proven false by any means.
The bible says that we were created at one time in six days (before time was measured) and that the universe is thousands of years old as apposed to the scientific evidence that states we evolved from micro organisms over the course of billions of years. Religion exists for the purpose to explain the unexplainable it is the justification of ignorance used by millions who are terrified by the thought that when they die that's it nothing more so they create and afterlife to cope with reality.
@skinnyman1423 To be honest with you there are six different views about the account of Genesis ch.1 and Genesis ch. 2--which is most linked to scientific fact as of today is completely up to you. Looking at the six different views and which is most probable is again up to a person and does not conflict with salvation in Jesus. Christians do believe in micro-evolution, it is macro-evolution that is the problem. Science is the study of what God has made so science and Christianity work well
If god exists then he is not good, he may have given you free will but are you really free? You follow the rules he has set before you thus limiting your freedom it isn't voluntary though as he has threatened eternal damnation upon those who disobey so it is out of fear that you follow. The forbidden fruit was freedom, the snake was the liberator and since the snake is a metaphor for Satan then it is Satan who is the liberator. The joys of life are never abstained by those in chains.
@skinnyman1423 yes but freedom to choose Him or reject him...not just wonder off and have no purpose. You either serve Jesus or lack there of simplified---serve the devil. Hell is meant for the devil and demon forces...you make the choice to go to Hell if you want to go away from God. It is your choice from free will to pick Heaven or Hell....free will brother, now choose? God Bless and Jesus Saves:)
@oleg2007 As for the bible, I'm in bed now and haven't got my copy with me but can tell you from memory that smashing babies heads in as a path to happiness is in pslams, genocide is a bit harder to miss really as it's the main theme of the first several books. I think the keeping virgins alive as sex slave is in numbers too.
@oleh2007 the 3 points you've made have nothing to do with my comment and I don't see why you've mentioned them as Im not arguing against them. As for morality being shacky? Well I and the scientific world would disagree with you, there is not one moral attribute we have that can't be seen in varying stages of development within the animal kingdom, the evolutionary value of altruistic behaviour is well understood. Simple stating that it's not doesn't make it so.
Lets talk about how great the USA is. LIke what we did to the american indian, infected blankets with smallpox? Jim Crow laws? Japanese Americans kept in camps? Radiation testing on civilians? This from a country with high morals. The fact is men regardless of faith or lack of can do horrid things. It is just easily done when you can fall back on the old god told me so excuse . Many modern day atheist countries are more peaceful look up the studies.
There are good atheists and bad atheists. There are good theists and bad theists.
The difference between atheism and theism is that theism provides a reason and a motivation to do bad things where as atheism does not. Atheists can of course do bad things but the bad things they do are not due to their atheism.
And lastly As for the laughable fallacy that there must be a moral law giver, have you even read the bible? Because the god of the bible thinks that rape genocide and smashing babies heads on rocks is ok. If you wish to learn where morality comes from I can suggest reading Sam Harris' book the moral landscape or watching his debates and talks on here, that way you will be better able to make videos on these subjects without sounding foolish.
@527dannyb morality is a very shacky point indeed. I beleive that the thing is that feelings like kindness compassion or love have about zero surviving value, so could such feelings evolve?
and also where exactly does it say in the bible that rape genocide and smashing babys on rocks is ok?
1st atheist is a term entirely without content it has no ideology or doctrines. 2nd you might want to do a little more research before speaking on a subject. 3rd I know of no one who would claim that religion is to blame for all the conflicts in the world. Though I would suggest reading Christopher Hitchen's book good is not great to see a vast list of modern and historical conflicts that it is severely implicated in.......
@527dannyb 1st by accepting atheism we accept the philosophy of materialism and this might have some influence on how we look at the world 2nd athiesm was a big part of communistic regime in Russia and it is quite true that many thousands of beleivers were sent to labour camps just becaus of their faith. 3rd I beleive evrybody would agree that all the major conflicts were over money land or power and not over religion.
Right ok atheist is individuality , theism is to be part of a group , if an atheist blows up a building it has nothing to do with me , if a christian blows up a building in the name of Christianity it is linked to his hers religion , if the atheist says he/she did it in the name atheism i can say i don't share his/hers beliefs if a christian says they did it in the name of Christianity can you say ..... : i don't believe in god?
Speaking as an atheist, I don't think many atheists think as you say, though they may say many atrocities have been committed for the sake of religion. You can't say the same for atheism though. Atrocities aren't committed for the sake of atheism, but rather for political regimes such as Communism, in the case you refer too. I don't think many atheists kill or torture in the name of atheism, as the Christians did in the Albigensian Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, or the Salem Witch Trials.
While I don't think every thing can be blamed on religion, I spotted a great reply to your first argument: watch?v=FU11Gu1wCmA
About your comment on "moral law," when you hear about a girl being killed, is your first thought really "Oh no, this is violating god's law?" Do you really believe the only thing wrong with murder is that God doesn't like it?
This I have to disagree with. Parthenogenesis is technically possible in humans, I believe, though it has yet to be documented. The fact that the resulting baby would, by necessity, be female is just something believers should ignore.
1st, atheists who want to abolish religions are militant atheists, and are a minority.
2nd, noone has ever committed atrocities in the name of atheism. Communists were politically motivated, not religiously motivated, to oppress religions. They were afraid religion could unite people and threaten the party's rule.
3rd yes, religions have done horrendous things to the world: slavery, sexism, racism, the crusades, middle east conflicts, terrorism,...
@minhhale 1. is correct. 2 is TOTALLY WRONG! from lenin to stalin many atrocities were done in the name of atheism. the closing and the destruction of churches, cathedrals, monasteries and convents. the murder of priests, monks, and nuns....not to mention laypeople who supported their churches.3rd sadly is VERY CORRECT. and i still hope that there would be a day of international religious repentance and humility.
@theivangrozhny2010 Even with every person killed under stalins regime. The number can't compare with how many were killed in the India-Pakistan split.
We're Millions were slaughtered, by guns, machetes, any weapon people got a hold of.
Which was done completely by religious people.
Course this whole argument is stupid, because if both atheists, and religious people can commit atrocities then neither is the root cause. The root cause of evil is Ignorance.
Oh there are plenty of evils of all colors however the christians have caused more deaths than any other type of community. Morales come from your community and evolution they have nothing to do with religion as a matter of fact they were there before religion.
Because of this, all you can honestly argue is that "Stalinism is damaging to humanity", or something like that. That this is true is clear, because religion is almost gone from northern Europe, Japan and many other places and it has happened without any kind of violence. In addition, such societies are almost universally ranked among the best places to live by the UN.
That argument is so dishonest. The main problem with religion(especially the Abrahamic ones) is not that it's "evil", but that it's false and consequently a source of division and violence we could easily throw in the garbage bin with zero loss. In addition, it's clear that the superstitious ideologies are used as justification for violence.
Nobody has ever denied that there are other causes of wars. However, "atheism" is not an ideology. It does not make any positive statements.
What happened in Russia was evil. I don't believe in evil as a force but use the word as a label. NEVER should anyone be punished for thought or beliefs. Actions should be punished but we MUST be given the freedom to believe what we choose. I wish religion didn't exist but respect your right to believe what you want. Even if I think its just an adult fairytale. If you believe in the bible, you MUST believe ALL OF IT. Not just the parts that we both agree are good but the bad parts too.
We the people ARE the moral lawgivers. We must choose what is right and wrong. Not necessarily individually, but as a society. There have been far more killings committed in the name of religion than have ever been committed by atheism. There are bad atheists just as there are bad Christians. Religion forces us into moral dilemmas while atheism allows for a choice. Our own judgement is relevant in atheism. It's not in religion. You are told what to think in religion. Is slavery moral?
you're an uneducated RETARD. Communism is a failed economic policy, Atheist is opening your mind to reality and not living a lie and being controlled ny others. Get a life you christofacist douchebag.

If he/she/it did create everything and everything is created after its image...then this "Moral Law Giver" of yours is EVIL.
Evil can't exist, along with anything else in your line of thinking, without being a part of G-d's image...
There's something to think about.

Joseph Stalin was trained as a Jesuit priest which makes him a Christian.

I agree, mostly.
Any ideology can be twisted BY PEOPLE to the extent of atrocity.
People have used their ideas on atheism and religion to discriminate and kill.
HOWEVA, there's no denying that religious scripture can easily be interpreted to support atrocities. Atheism has no such unifying dogma.
As for there being a moral lawgiver, that's another video altogether, but there is a difference between laws of nature and laws as written by man.

LogicalStatements1 5 months ago

You KNOW that the universe was not poofed into existence by magic.
You KNOW that a virgin birth is impossible.
You KNOW that walking on water is impossible.
You KNOW that "god" never spoke to anybody.
You KNOW that the earth is wa-a-a-y older than 6,000 years.
You KNOW that responsibility for actions cannot be transferred to another person.
You KNOW that death is the absolute end of the line.
So why are you clouding up your head with utter nonsense?

'You KNOW that a virgin birth is impossible.'
This I have to disagree with. Parthenogenesis is technically possible in humans, I believe, though it has yet to be documented. The fact that the resulting baby would, by necessity, be female is just something believers should ignore.

@indignant99, other than your 5th comment which i agree with, every other comment can be said by THERE IS something greater than ourselves

On a slight tangent, why do you believe the Fictional Myth you've been fed?

1st, atheists who want to abolish religions are militant atheists, and are a minority.
2nd, noone has ever committed atrocities in the name of atheism. Communists were politically motivated, not religiously motivated, to oppress religions. They were afraid religion could unite people and threaten the party's rule.
3rd yes, religions have done horrendous things to the world: slavery, sexism, racism, the crusades, middle east conflicts, terrorism,...
4th, atheism doesn't tell people to do shit.
minhhale 5 months ago
@minhhale 1. is correct. 2 is TOTALLY WRONG! from lenin to stalin many atrocities were done in the name of atheism. the closing and the destruction of churches, cathedrals, monasteries and convents. the murder of priests, monks, and nuns....not to mention laypeople who supported their churches.3rd sadly is VERY CORRECT. and i still hope that there would be a day of international religious repentance and humility.
theivangrozhny2010 5 months ago
@theivangrozhny2010 Even with every person killed under stalins regime. The number can't compare with how many were killed in the India-Pakistan split.
We're Millions were slaughtered, by guns, machetes, any weapon people got a hold of.
Which was done completely by religious people.
Course this whole argument is stupid, because if both atheists, and religious people can commit atrocities then neither is the root cause. The root cause of evil is Ignorance.
GhostInTheShell29 5 months ago 2
Oh there are plenty of evils of all colors however the christians have caused more deaths than any other type of community. Morales come from your community and evolution they have nothing to do with religion as a matter of fact they were there before religion.
Xatasha6611 5 months ago
It is dogma that is evil, not religion. Atheism has no dogma.
OWC2000 5 months ago
Because of this, all you can honestly argue is that "Stalinism is damaging to humanity", or something like that. That this is true is clear, because religion is almost gone from northern Europe, Japan and many other places and it has happened without any kind of violence. In addition, such societies are almost universally ranked among the best places to live by the UN.
Gnomefro 5 months ago
That argument is so dishonest. The main problem with religion(especially the Abrahamic ones) is not that it's "evil", but that it's false and consequently a source of division and violence we could easily throw in the garbage bin with zero loss. In addition, it's clear that the superstitious ideologies are used as justification for violence.
Nobody has ever denied that there are other causes of wars. However, "atheism" is not an ideology. It does not make any positive statements.
Gnomefro 5 months ago
What happened in Russia was evil. I don't believe in evil as a force but use the word as a label. NEVER should anyone be punished for thought or beliefs. Actions should be punished but we MUST be given the freedom to believe what we choose. I wish religion didn't exist but respect your right to believe what you want. Even if I think its just an adult fairytale. If you believe in the bible, you MUST believe ALL OF IT. Not just the parts that we both agree are good but the bad parts too.
USHOULDTHINK 5 months ago
We the people ARE the moral lawgivers. We must choose what is right and wrong. Not necessarily individually, but as a society. There have been far more killings committed in the name of religion than have ever been committed by atheism. There are bad atheists just as there are bad Christians. Religion forces us into moral dilemmas while atheism allows for a choice. Our own judgement is relevant in atheism. It's not in religion. You are told what to think in religion. Is slavery moral?
