yes, well, that was even more a shame, i meant, but i guess for some people there was the hope of fighting for it but for her unfortunately, she just had to do what was intended, i wonder though...
well, i do think she was brilliant at what she did, but she completely wasted all of it for the comedy of things was people used only for laughter at her frozen face, she wasted her beautiful face with that reputation and image, she could have been wonderful with drama, serenity, sorrow, happiness, in regular movies but its a shame, i don't object to what she did, but that became her only reputation and something else less than what she could have been
she wasn't the one who wasted her talent...the studios found a box to put her in where she excelled and kept her there...they basically refused to allow her to do anything else...and back then you either did what the studios told you to do or you lost your career
The studio system had its faults, but it also was used by many newcomers as a learning ground, and with a guaranteed salary. They didn't all become "stars," but they were earning a living and some went on to have great careers in the film industry, both on and off screen, in front of and behind the cameras.
I agree she is underrated. She only had two numbers in In Till The Clouds Roll by. This song was part of a medley and the other song she sang was Life Upon the Wicked Stage
She was delightful in "Thousands Cheer."
