  • check out cdcoleman92. his version is amazing!

  • This song always reminds of a lazy, summer fishing day :)

  • I love you.

  • This is the ultimate "I'm having a bad day and can relate to this song" song

  • i do believe he is talking about a chain gang and workin sun up to sundown

  • Fuck you 1 who dislikes

  • bravo

  • Just read page 230, 231 and 232 of 'Eleven Minutes' and the 'caged bird' reference is now evident for me.

  • This is downright honest to God foot stompin hug your neighbor kiss your dog feel good music! It rocks my heart and soul like nothing else!

  • sharecroppers dude. that's what this song is about. my grandparents did this for a living in TN. the bosses would have rifles to make sure nobody would take any of the crops. anybody who has had relatives who have done this for a "living" during the depression feel this song intensely.

  • @TheShasha2325 This song is the epitome of double entendre. Yes it's somewhat about sharecropping, but it's a song about their lives' problems as well.

  • What is this song about? "There’s a boss man at a turnrow with a rifle in his hand" why would his 'boss' have a rifle unless the he was a slave or in a labor camp? Taking chains away would make more sense then.

  • Backroads and blunts. Thats about it.

  • amen to the Avetts!

  • @flipkip13 This isn't their song.

But yeah, The Avett Brothers are pretty amazing.

  • anybody like good music check out the Avett Brothers

  • Ah I can identify with this almost perfectly. Doin nothin but work, feelin lost, wishin you could slow down and enjoy the scenery. Story of my life right there. I often literally wish I could lay down and look at the clouds.

  • "Can't see you when I go to work, can't see you when I get off how do you expect a man not to get lost" Do you suppose this verse refers to him not having any time to spend with his love before and after work and becoming emotionally lost or is it more likely a reference to not having time for the Lord before and after work and becoming spiritually "lost"?

  • @JRudolph86 He literally can't see very well - he's working from before the sunrise until after the sunset, so it's dark when he's finally able to take a look around. 'Get lost' could be taken any number of ways, figuratively not literally.

  • im a total metal head, my older brother gave me the O.C.M.S. album, and i loved it.

  • @ShipwreckNinja Me too dude...I heard them a few months ago and have been hooked. Total culture change but I'm glad it happened

  • @ShipwreckNinja dude i couldn't agree more.....ever since i heard these dudes ive been getting more and more into bluegrass/folk/country music and these dudes are the best yet

  • Best Band EVERRRRRRR

  • Great song. Would love to see this band live. Hope they come to Scotland.

  • The most Underrated Old Crow Medicine Show song.

Superb lyrics and a soothing tune.

  • This is the first OCMS song I ever heard which got me hooked on them, since then I have become a big fan. Seen them only once in concert & it was GREAT!!!

  • great pleas come to switzerland!!!!!

  • great

  • Lord take away these chains from me = God, please fucking kill me

  • saw them at rythm and roots

  • @rockinw401 which rythm and roots and please dont say bristol cus that means i missed them!!!!

  • @andyjohn35 Yeah it was Bristol. They played main stage like six years ago though. They haven't been back since then though.

  • stop it with the friggin' paragraphs, my comrades.

  • I saw them on the 23rd of July and the concert was so good that I almost don't want to listen to the studio version of the songs anymore because that doesn't do this band justice. They played this song as an encore and it was INSANELY awesome. It was a nice calm down song from all the high sping fiddlin and banjo pluckin.

  • Way cool

  • Love em'

  • great song, great lyrics; makes me reflect on how all of us on here are all so fortunate compared to most of the rest of the world...

  • great song, great lyrics; makes me reflect on how all of us on here are all so fortunate compared to most of the rest of the world...

  • This is the frist song I ever heard from OCMS, since then I been a BIG fan.

  • warms my heart.

  • i absolutely love this song.

gives me goosebumps everytime i hear it!

  • This is a really really good song.

  • methinks this was written by Mance Lipscomb

  • my bad...Critter wrote this

    sorry

  • I was told that this is an old song, done originally by Big Bill Broonzy. They sure do it beautifully....this is one of my favorite songs.

  • oh theres a banjo in there throughout if you listen for it...how theyve managed to play so long without a mandolin remains a mystery to me : ) "Take away these chains from me, my heart is broken cause my spirit's not free, take away these chains from me..." Good lyrics, makes me think about Christ and how He took the chains from me. Great song, just heard it on pandora

  • @MandolinforJesus no one needs to hear this.

  • wow u know dont be a duche bag about some one elses opinion

  • @wannakraka ah, everyone needs to hear the Good news! Not everyone wants to hear it. If I can brigthen someones day by saying Jesus loves you, thats great; Ill keep doing it till the day I die : ) Ill play music and sing about the Lord and for the Lord, and not worry what people think. JESUS LOVES YOU!

  • @MandolinforJesus god bless you.jesus loves you too.just get on that train to jesus, its free,no evil will be on that train only the faithful & only by faith in jesus can do do good works.

  • @househarr how can you say jesus loves him? maybe jesus doesn't like him?

  • @MandolinforJesus praise jesus.the lord fenced me in many years.it makes me think about christ too.you know when he died on the cross ,jesus went straight to hell to redeem souls immediately^the devil had no power.take away these chains from me.

  • I do wish there was fiddle also, that would just make this song come together so perfectly. But you can hear banjo in there pretty clearly. Needless to say this is still my favorite song.

  • great song!!

  • some band. they really capture the 'old west' feeling

  • ahaha, this is oldtimey southern music silly!

  • i love old crow, they rock my world!!

  • Absolutely Beautiful!
