The rail guided levels in Assault were great, but the free roam and on foot portions were total ass. And the writing was awful. Even if Star Fox 64's Shakespearen scenario wasn't particularly original, it was well done and enjoyable over this...spontaneous, cliche ridden mess.

if an explosion comes from a large building that your cafe is in the chances of it still intact would be pretty small, most likely he was looking on the situation as such, saw a building around or on top of the cafe hit and called it "destroyed"

I wonder how the Plasma Cannon would've worked in Versus Mode anyway...

Just like all the other weapons in normal VS mode, it probably would have a finite ammo supply. Unless they included a mode where you and another player stand on an Arwing or Wolfen with a Cannon and try to blast each other out of the sky.

I think they should've included the Guided Launcher and Jetpack from VS Mode into the story.

I wonder what the next Star Fox game is going to be like, anyway...
