  • It's filler, but you know every band;no matter how evolved has filler.

  • Country music is a complete pile of shite - it always has been.

  • @paullavan2011

I'm not a big fan of Country music, but the older Country genre was actually quite good. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard. Give it a listen.

  • in my top 5 from the 80's for sure..2:18-2:33... bitchin!

  • every little accident takes time ... genius

  • kind of an 80's version of "Caroline Knows" by Beach Boys

  • i like u all..obviously you have good taste in music

  • I was born in 1991 and my parents raised me with 80s ONLY! So when I came to school I wondered why those kids couldn't sing the songs I could. When No Doubt published 'It's my life' I was confused because I always knew it's been sung by Mark and Talk Talk... until mom told me bands that don't get ideas themselves COVER songs by other artists... Well... TT are so underrated still today, that No Doubt sold more records TT ever did... SUCH A SHAME!

  • @ChrisWalkenFan SUCH A SHAME indeed! but whats not a shame is your parents raising u on good music opposed to the shit that you would have been subjected to most otherwise.

  • @codern totally agree! Okay there is music still today that is good. But just a few songs. But back in the 80s I can say, even without being born in that decade, nearly every song you heard was like 'OMG I wanna dance to it!' ... they had a melody, and a rhythm. !! And thanks again for your understanding. Not so many agree with me. They are so stupid anyway.

  • @ChrisWalkenFan well usually the people who disagree with you, are more prone and partial to listening to crap like justin bieber...in which case they are little girls whose opinions couldnt possibly have any less merit.

  • @codern It's not always just little girls. When you in 12th grade here in Germany shortly before graduating there should be also some guys, grown up ones, and not such who still listen to teenage crap^^ ..I also know some of my parents age who can't cope with the fact that I knew more of the songs they grew up with as they knew. They just (still do) act like kids. I'm askin' myself is it all because of the music? Well let's skip this topic and let us concentrate on what great musicians TT were !

  • @ChrisWalkenFan I understand what you are saying, I hope this makes sense to you:

I was a teenager from 82-89, so music like Talk Talk is in my blood. But lots of music really sucked back in the 80s. Fortunately the bad stuff stopped getting played after a while, but the good stuff still gets played over and over again; nobody remembers the bad stuff, nobody forgets the good stuff.

You remember your last birthday, but probably not the day 17 days before your last birthday. It's like that.

  • @ChrisWalkenFan Also, I grew up in the US in a very religious conservative state. Those of us who liked this music were constantly being beat up for listening to weird music, for wearing weird clothes, and for having funny haircuts. There was only one radio station (at any one time) that played this music, while hundreds played rock and country. Most people in our state didn't even know this stuff existed, and hated those of us who did. People always hate what they don't understand. Sadly.

  • Talk Talk was one of the greatest bands EVER !

  • i am thoroughly convinced that talk talk was one of the greatest bands in music history and so horribly underrated. people truly are not too smart... to generalize that is . my god this band is genius. i guess the only good thing about the garbage music today is that it only puts in perspective what talent is...or should i say "was".

  • I'm posting this after redneckmother... Hi mom

  • I am still waiting for music like this, to re-emerge as a source of inspiration. Rap and hip-hop suck big black balls. Sorry (not) you cap in the dome wanna be gangstas.

  • this is art

  • Talk Talk is the BEST of the BEST!!! I have loved them since they first appeared on the music scene . . . so sexy and slinky!! God I love their MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its about time mark hollis/talk talk were in the music hall of fame.

  • mitici!

  • This lp was and is so great!!!

  • behind ian curtis from joy division , then mark hollis is the best ever. talk talk make me cry with happiness

  • this is such a great song. talk talk were easily one of the best bands that ever played and so greatly under-rated its a crime. they should definately reform.

  • @faustus999 you're dead on correct

  • And did any of you know that's Lee doing the extended vocals after Mark in the chorus of this song? "Does it matter if I can't say Caroline knoooooooooooows" That's him, on knooooooooooooooows - if you listen carefully you can actually hear where Mark stops & Lee begins!

  • Re JohnoEAL: Yes I can hear where Lee takes over from Mark during the chorus! Now I listen you can tell the difference between their voices. I wonder why they did that though...

  • Ive just played this track for my mum. Now she keeps coming up to every 20mins or so and keeps aking me to play it again! She loves this track as much as I do.

  • What a great feel good song. I love those drums and the bass line. I was born in 1992. Wish I could of grown up in the 1980s.

  • genius enough said

  • This song is so refreshingly different, I especially love the bass line!

  • I forgot to mention it was recorded live at the Montreaux (bad spelling - oops) Jazz Festival - what a treat to have been able to SEE Talk Talk at a Jazz Fest - ok enough out of me I promise

  • it is the b-side to "Happiness is Easy" 12" EP - went to the records, dug it out & looked it up - now I want to play it...over and over - sorry wife and two kids, dads going thru one his "moments" again

  • I stumbled upon a 12" version of this song - actually it was/is the B-side - whenever the "turntable and records" get broken out - it gets played loud and multiple times....my house bathes in it for a while...rich, deep,...just plain REALLY good

  • Thanks again for these great tracks, with great sound quality.

I'm enjoying them... reminds me of being 14 again...

  • Great song!

  • always loved this song.

  • ...caroline was the love of my life...talk talk is THE BAND...

  • Couldn't agree more. And all these years later Talk Talk are still in my Desert Island Discs (must be good then eh?).

  • Perhaps the best song on album? Anyway, right up there with The Last Time and It's You. Wanted to name my daughter Caroline (alas, the wife doesn't understand Talk Talk).

This song touches a part of my soul that just, well, makes me HAPPY. Thanks, Talk Talk and ColourOfSpring. I'll be returning to this site regularly.

  • Definitely one of the 3 best songs on this album (but Id sub Tomorrow Started in place of Its You). The drumming is just sublime - undeniably the best illustration of Lees abilities on this album.

  • ...and the bass line to this song is fantastic (right up there with It's You).

  • Fully agree. Yeah that Paul Webb is a very special bass player - it is the rhythm section that make this song, his bass combined with Lees intricate drumming. Oh, plus that magnificent sweeping synth over the top, particularly at the end in the last minute.

  • Overall though I still prefer Derek Forbes on classic old school Simple Minds, particularly the New Gold Dream album, from 82 (he left the band shortly after). Masterpiece, with truly amazing bass. Such exquisite basslines, so driving, complex, multifaceted, and just sublime Hes one of the absolute supreme bassists Ive ever heard!

That said, Paul Webb is a genius also - but more so on later TT albums.

  • Have you heard Mark King (Level 42) on Nik Kershaw's "Easy"? Also "truly amazing bass."

  • Of course, Mark King my man! Yeah his bass on Nik's Easy is sublime. His bass playing method is virtually identical to Derek Forbes's, the "slap bass" technique, though both sound uniquely different. Have you seen that live clip of him on youtube? Type "level 42 mark king bass solo" ITS BRILLIANT! He's very underrated, just like Forbes & Webb - I reckon these 3 bassists are a cut above that Adam Clayton bloke from that other band...

  • Thanks for the referral - awesome playing, indeed!

  • Re JohnoEAL: Adam Clayton is from U2 and they are brilliant as well.

  • Rotaryfatboy, haha yeah I know mate, was just being a smartass. I love U2, but only their classic stuff. Adam Clayton is brilliant, just brilliant. I saw them live in 2006, most spectacular show I've ever seen in my life, no contest. Was just "such a shame" they did only newer songs for most of the show - and only ONE lousy stinking song from my fave (and in my opinion best) album of theirs - TUF. You could probably guess what song that was...

  • What was that? "A Sort Of Homecoming"? I love that track! I only like their older stuff as well and "The Unforgettable Fire" was undeniably their best album. In my opinion its the same with Talk Talk. This album "Its My Life" was their best. But Im not really keen on their later albums to be honest.

  • No no, not Homecoming - come on! Think about it, what song would they play if it had to be one song only from that album? The same one we hear a thousand times a week on the radio: "One man come, in the name of..."

YET they did something like 5 songs EACH from their 2 unremarkable latest albums! Disgraceful.

I have to say you're the first person who agrees with me that TUF is their crowning achievement.

  • Of course! You mean"Pride,In The Name Of Love"! I dont know why I said was it Homecoming. But like I said you are right. TUF is U2s best album. I love it...unlike other teenagers today who brand my taste of music"S***"and"F***ing crap". It really is a shame that such brilliant artists like U2 and Talk Talk are snubbed because everyone else now likes the dreadful music of nowadays. A pity really...

  • Just thought you might want to know there's at least one other person who agrees with you about TUF (although I'd have guessed "A Sort of Homecoming", too, as did Rotaryfatboy!)

  • Awesome! One of my alltime fave albums hands down. There are probbaly only 2 other U2 albums that I truly love, but TUF reigns supreme. If they did Homecoming at the concert I reckon that would've made up for all the shitty newer songs they did ("hello hello I'm at a place called..." - still I suppose that was the VERTIGO tour after all.) Good to see that there are at least 3 of us who agree here!

  • But I'm afraid I just can't agree with the second part of Rotaryfatboy's comment... It's My Life is a superb 80s synth album, one of the best - but there just aren't enough adequate words in the English language {or ANY language really} to articulate the sheer genius of TT's later work.

  • Im sorry if I gave you the wrong impression John. Im not saying I hate their later music. I love "The Colour Of Spring" album. "Living In Another World","Lifes What You Make It","Chameleon Day"...its "The Spirit Of Eden" album that has left me wishing that I liked it more. Dont get me wrong "Desire" is a fantastic track but by 1988 they sounded completely different as to what they had done in 1984. Mark Hollis is still a genius in every single sense of the word. A musical god.

  • Let's face it: it's really asking about two different bands, "Early Talk Talk," and "Later Talk Talk." Some like one, not the other. I happen to be way in the tank for both, but understand that they're not both everyone's cup of tea.

  • Yeah I have to pretty much concur there, the first 2 albums vs. the last 2 is almost like Simple Minds vs. Miles Davis... worlds apart. I must admit when I first heard Spirit, it took me a while to "get it." Over time I grew to appreciate the unmistakable masterpiece that it truly is.

Colour Of Spring was the ideal middle ground, that album I "got" straight away, took everything I thought I knew about the way music could sound and turned it on its head.

  • Couldn't agree with you more! BTW, have to count "It's Getting Late in the Evening" as part of "Colour of Spring" , even if it didn't make the album.

  • Re stillinthe80s: Then in that case was "For What It's Worth" part of "Colour Of Spring"?

  • Don't forget PICTURES OF BERNADETTE! Why does everyone always forget that song, they never forget the other 2....?

  • I haven't forgotten "Pictures Of Bernadette" John. I actually have it saved on my favourites list. Great track.

  • Lee Harris, drummer Talk Talk: "it's great if people can get into the first couple of albums, thats what they are, accessible albums..@ the time thats what we wanted to do..

I just find each album a progression from the last..We never wanted to do the

    same thing twice.."

  • Re stillinthe80s: Im glad you like TUF as well. "A Sort Of Homecoming" blew me off my feet when I first heard it. Great song from a great album from an even greater band!

  • Re JohnoEAL: I dont know if you have heard it but theres another Talk Talk track I love now. Its called "My Foolish Friend". Fantastic track.

  • Great song! I know it well, very upbeat & peppy. Was released in 1983 & isn't on any of their original studio albums. I think it was either a leftover from their first album or just a "filler" between albums. It was released almost a full year before Its My Life came out. As a result it sounds more developed than anything on the first album but overall not quite as intricate as It's My life.

It is on Natural History though, their best-of album from 1990 - first Talk Talk album I ever got!

  • Was "My Foolish Friend" released as a single then?

  • You dont mind if I add you as a friend do you? Ill send you an invite if you dont mind.

  • By the way John I have just got the Talk Talk album "Natural History". What a great album! "Dum Dum Girl","Happiness Is Easy","My Foolish Friend"etc etc...superb.

  • Good stuff! I recall I only bought Natural History cos the one TT song I knew back then was on it, but after hearing it the 1st time I knew these guys were no mere one-hit wonders. Was also the first time I found out THEY were the ones who originally did Its My Life! After hearing that whore Stefani sing it thousands of times, hearing Hollis sing it, in that voice, the first time was indescribable...

  • Apparently Hollis himself hated this album! Of course two of the greatest works of genius in the history of mankind (both from COS) aren't on this album, so it's not PERFECT....

  • And once again, those lyrics: I clearly recall one time I was feeling depressed recalling mistakes Id made in the past got in the car, pressed play on the cd player and I hear my mate Mark say: Every little accident takes time Forget about mistakes Ive made, theyre left behind, left behind... You couldnt wipe the smile off my face with a sledgehammer!

  • Yeah I feel that way too! This song never fails to put a smile back on my face either.

  • Ditto!
