Vocaloids have a much larger fan base because of their art style and how easy it is to represent them. People can change Miku's style as much as they like in their videos (just check out hagane miku). The english vocaloids don't have the same appeal as they're often given a live human face, rather than a drawn one. The anime ones feel more that they ARE computerised singers entirely, not just the voice.
