I've never seen or heard of a judge stepping down and taking a convicted person's punishment. I can not see how justice is served by allowing the wrong person to be punished. Nor can I see how that is mercy. Mercy might be to reduce a punishment because of the guilty person's circumstance or condition.

I see Her in the waxing and waning of the moon. I see Him in the cycle of the seasons. I see Them in the eyes of my fellow humans for we are all a part of the physical world, Nature. The universe is not the creation of your God, It is the body of the Goddess and the Horned God Themselves in visible form.

If you believe the creator was "always around" then why couldn't everything else have always been around in one form or another. A good judge upholds justice. A wonderful judge steps down and and takes the punishment upon himself. Justice is served and mercy can be shown.
