Still you can't compare Fender and Squier. It's all about passion and feel. And to put matters to the facts, even though it's one hell of a subjective topic Fenders just have more passion, better feel and to the person whom knows his guitar, better sound. Yes, you can upgrade your Squier and get roughly the same tone but then still you don't have the balance and that personal 'it' which you just can't put you finger on.
The 54s have a bit more of that bell like chime, I feel with the volume cranked, they will sparkle a bit more, my std strat has them type of pups, and my other std has the duncan claifornia 50s in, which are very sparkle, really bell like
@xblackb0x Oh yeah, and try for example to put a squier or any other copy in the hands of a guitar master if you can get to any. I doubt that hendrix would play bad on any guitar ;)
@mradosovic that is not my point... my first guitar was a squier and i'm not saying they are bad guitars, but there is a bit difference that is all i am saying
@mradosovic thing is, sound is only one of a hundred things your paying for when you buy a guitar: build quality, woods (which on its own affects the sound) tuning stability, playability, how long the guitar will last, quality of metal used on the bridge etc... i take your point completely, its just that there's more to it than just sound.
a real guitars plays a guitar, what does it matter how he does it, what he cares about or with what equipmen? buddy guy learned on a guitar with 2 strings, hendrix had to flip his strat around because he coudnt get a lefty, and he also started with a duo sonic. the mustang was a student model guitar but kobain turned it into a prized instrument, and all three have directed the way in which people played their guitars for that time. buy a guitar youre comfortable with and playthe hell out of it.
@mradosovic true, but a real guitarist buys a guitar based on feel, knowing that a guitars sound can always be changed... I dont even plug in a guitar when im buying one, i just go for the best feeling guitar
@AdamVandenBrink Thanks for posting that. that is so much the truth. When I get a new student the first thing I ask them how does the guitar feel then we worry about the sound and so on.
@bbaasje, Put them in a Japan made Squier from the early 80's there getting expensive now but if you buy a JV Squier without the US pickups they are much cheaper - the one's that came stock with Jap ceramic pickups like the ST-30 - whack some 54's in one of these and you'll have the best of both worlds .
I really love the sound of the '54 and thinking of buying these together with a cheap guitar, good Idea? Bcause an expensive guitar should already have good pickups.
@bbaasje buying cs54 pickup to put on cheap guitar sure will improve the sound of that cheap guitar..but remember you cannot make a cheap squier strat sounds better than a real fender even though u use cs54 pickup or anything else..
@cloud011085 Not necessarily. The classic vibe series has some great guitars for the price and I bet a classic vibe strat would be killer with these great sounding pickups.
@stratdude83 I know what you mean and I think you're right. One thing though that I have really noticed on the Squier Guitars which I have modded is that they will sound really good while they are in tune but for some reason they went out of tune much faster than the higher quality guitars. Maybe just replace the main hardware too.
@bbaasje I got a squier classic vibe 60's €309,-. Upgraded it with custom shop fat 50's €166,-. It sounds like a 1200 euro guitar. Only the cheap neck needed sanding and adjustment. It's a great way to sound like john mayer for a few euro/dollar. @cloud011085 My squier sounds just like an expensive fender strat. Greetz
wow i meant to say guitarists. guitars dont play themselves. jeez that was a long time ago.

The 54's have more clang . Both of them sound good though. Great video.

The 54's all the way! They have that glassy cut that the Texas Specials lack.

The 54's came in my 50th anniversary AMSE strat, and this is pretty much identical. I love the clarity and punch of the 54's.
