Yeah, I'm a guitarist collaborating with a singer and I've been going around Youtube listening to bands that he likes that I'm not very familiar with. When I listened to this band's stuff I was like, "Well, there's not much here to work with. The guitar is all really simple. Anybody could write that." But Ashoftomorrow's right; these songs are driven by the singer and his vocal melody. That's where the artistry is.

Your comment just shows your ignorance. This particular song is about showcasing the talent of the singer, not the guitarist(s). I mean, that should be pretty obvious from the fact that there's almost no drumming for half of the song and the guitars are soft and pretty much play the same thing over and over.

The lead guitarist that took the place of the one who left in 2006 is actually extremely talented, as is the drummer. So, don't assume that they're terrible musicians from one song.

Oh, and also- if you consider yourself a musician, you should already know that, sure, being able to shred is great, but even the biggest metalheads don't want to listen to a song that's only shredding. As a guitarist, you need to be able to write a chord progression or a riff that will stick in peoples heads that will both stick in the listener's head and be distinctive if you want to be noticed at all. That is something this band has ALWAYS done well.

honestly, i think it's cool to have people singing along when i play in my band, it's awesome to hear a bunch of people singing your stuff. i guess it's just personal choice, but even when some hardcore fan is screaming the lyrics behind you, you can still hear the singer fine, so quit being so uptight and losen up. concerts are all about seeing a band you like and having a good time. if you cant handle that, go home and listen to the cd, then you can hear his voice just fine.

In all truth, most concert venues have a decent enough sound system and the people singing along doesn't affect your enjoyment, really! It's just that recording devices come from amongst the huge crowd so it's usually harder to hear the singer through the speakers ^^;
