I am a 60 yr old widow with a disabled daughter and I'm just now starting to educate myself on these prepp videos. I will now have the know how to do it..I also live in the deep south where it's hot and humid but my basement that has 2 bedrooms are always cool. the floors are concrete will that be a bad thing to store them right on the floor or should I buy shelves to put them on?
This is a great way to remove radiation from water, but don't forget to have adequate protection from radiation in the environment otherwise. If you're in a SHTF scenario where the area itself is radioactive and you have no defense against its effects, having safe water is going to be cold comfort as you slowly die. Accordingly, iodine would be very handy to have on hand assuming the local radioactivity is relatively low. Oh, and you'll die drinking only distilled water for lack of vitamins.
excellent....when u mentioned hidden water sources in the house, I thot, mmm,,,,no you aren't going there, the comode....lol....but one thing I never thot of was the hot water tank...very good....thank you, and the amount of simple bleach to purify....and I too always wondered how long water could be stored!
keep a bag of clean sand for this reason , also keeping bentonite clay around to clean fallout from water by adding it to the water then pouring it thru the sand filter , im making a system with bone char to remove fluoride a large gravity filter is a good thing to have anyway
This is a joke! The guy advises filtering out one type of toxin - radiation, then using a coffee filter, boiling the water, then using another high toxin, the disinfectant chlorine! So, you might protect yourself from one form of cancer, radiation, in the first filtration, but you are likely to get another form of cancer from the chlorine. There is a better way: After the first filtration, skip the boiling, use a ceramic filter impregnated with colloidal silver or silver particles.
@dawes777 So you can turn your skin blue with the colloidal silver? Awesome. You are not going to get cancer from drinking a minuscule amount of diluted bleach for the duration of a temporary disaster/emergency.
@DIYSurvivalSolutions No, you will NEVER get blue skin from drinking colloidal silver correctly made with distilled water, where the product is clear or a pale lemon colour.
Argyria is caused by drinking colloidal silver that is:
a.) made with non-distilled water;
b.) excessive concentration, where the colour is dark red, brown, grey or black, (due to silver density);
c.) made with dilute nitric acid;
d.) made with silver filings.
Cancer from bleach is due to a person’s susceptibility.
@DIYSurvivalSolutions I would add that argyria, or blue-grey skin, is produced through the accumulation of large silver particles in the blood, which it cannot eliminate; this can be as little as one teaspoonful daily over eighteen months or more. Argyria is not an illness, but a 'condition.' Further, it is the prolonged use of a, b, c and d as previously indicated which causes the condition.
You can drink large quantities of clear colloidal silver without affecting the colour of the blood.
Great video, thanks for the info. I never would have thought of using the hot water tank. I have heard of toilet tanks, sprinkler systems, and fish tanks. I have fish supplies so fortunately I have aquarium carbon, and a R/O D/I unit.
Good series of videos. Aqumira frontier pro has a hot water tank adapter for their backpacking filter. (it filters about 40 gallons) Kind of a neat option as well. total cost of filter and adapter is about $20.00 -30.00
P.S. one more idea is to grab the rifle, go to your local water tower, shoot a hole, and hold out a bucket = water for days!
Rocks can also be very dusty from the mill either bought in a bag or by truck load. I would clean them while you have a surplus of clean water, let them dry (so they don't get mildewed) and store them in a cool, dry place.
As I said this is a last resort type of filtration (using soil).
Of course if you had charcoal it would also help. The problem is that if fallout covered everything, then the coal and ash could still be contaminated and defeat the process. However if you prepared in advance and had clean charcoal, then it would be beneficial.
@D33Lux Yes it would. Also letting water flow through the filter to "clean" off the rocks and other stuff would be ideal, before you begin capturing your drinking water.
Since your filtering out radioactive fallout, it would be best to bag the contaminated dirt/soil/rocks for proper disposal later on, then get new dirt/soil/rocks for additional filtering.
I just want to know what keeps microscopic worm eggs out of the water. They're in dirt. Some are so small, they can bore through the skin of your feet without ppl knowing it. Watch videos on worms... I guess we have to boil the water.

SUPERB! Using the ubiquitous plastic bucket and some things you have anywhere in the world no less.
Thank you for pointing out things that some of us may forget, such as dig down for your dirt.
In Iraq and Afghanistan there is a huge amount of surface contamination from human and animal feces as well as from dead animals (and people in the first years of the war). Something that could happen here or anywhere when the hammer falls.
i have been watching vedios on how to do stuff in case of...well this country going south or the persacution of christians which ever comes first...where would be a place to be headed to or head to in case of the worst. Like what state would be a good sorce of water and food for perhaps extended periods of time. Maybe a place that would be easly defended if need be. Just curious of your thoughts I personally am thinking west virginia or north georgia
Thanks for these videos. Very helpful. I have a question. Can you use sand instead of soil? I have room to store some things, and was wondering if buying some bags of sand was a reasonable option.
Hi Steve. Just found your channel and really enjoyed your water filtration/storage piece. Look forward to watching your other posts. Great job and good camera presence. All the best to you and yours during these amazing times!
Could you freeze the water that you just treated and store it in a freezer? The only thing I can think of that would cause this not to work is the container cracking or whatever in the freezer. But is freezing the treated water an option for storage?
Perhaps if you had a big enough freezer but since the rule of thumb is one gallon per person per day, its kind of hard to store a month worth of water (or more) that way.
Its better to just store water in a cool dry place & save the freezer for food.
Thanks SAR for this lesson on water treatment and storing water. However, I live in an apartment in an urban area. For the fall out filter mention in this last video, can I go to my local park for the dirt and rocks, or you think it would be contaminated already from the pollution? Or, do you think it is best to get them from a hardware store, like Home Depot?
As for dirt/soil the park should work fine - remember we are using it to filter out radioactive contamination not pollution. After its filtered thru the soil, then you have to treat it using bleach, commercial filters, etc.
Oh definitely. I mention about the soil/dirt in my local parts maybe contaminated already (pollution or radiation) because we have more waste and garbage, obviously, lol. I did not want to take the chance of taken a few shovels of dirt being that it hurts me, rather benefit me. Most likely, I would buy those gravel rocks and dirt from a hardware store, just in case.
Despite the annoying hat-blur thing (we just wanna see yer purty face), excellent video, glad you covered the rock thing at the end, because I was going to comment on it!
Here's another source of a small amt of water in the house--your toilet tanks, so keep 'em clean (and NO! I don't mean the water in the bowl, although that's good enough for my dog...)
Oh, I did think of another source while I was out watering the plants today--my rain barrel. I only have one 55gal barrel, but I'm planning on two more.
It'd be pretty easy to filter that and treat it with bleach.
So, when I get the other two put in, I'll potentially have about 210 gallons of water between the barrels, water heater and plumbing, not to mention what I've already stored in bottles.
Plus, the rain barrels refill with every rain, so I'd probably use that first in an emergency.
My brother drives truck for a living, and he was doing a delivery to a local juice plant and noticed the blue barrels, he just asked them if he could have one that was slightly damaged (warped) and they said sure!
It's obviously a food-grade barrel, which is nice. It's one of those tall blue ones, works great for the garden.
Oh, and just so people know, I live in an urban/suburban setting-if you have a yard, it can be done.
Do you even realize what a service you are doing or is this just for fun? Seriously, this is valuable information that could keep me and mine alive in a disaster.

Dear SaftArmsReview:
Do you know if a water distiller such as the home units they sell for around $200.00 would remove nuclear fallout?
Thank you sir
7777Ralph 2 years ago
I am unsure but if you did filter water contaminated with fallout it would be a one time filter to be sure.
Best bet is to just use the dirt method so you dont cross contaminate your water distiller system, which would endanger you & your family.
I hope this helps.
