I tried it and I have only got to lvl 2 and I was hooked. I have beta tested wow Caticlysm. I have 4 85s and I played rift to lvl 37. I also played aion. And I can tell you I have never seen a better mmo In my life. I garantee you guys will love it. And I'm not even a fan of star wars!
NCsoft has been teasing you GW players with promises of a GW2 for over 3 years now. You're still gonna support them after they've been kiting you along for that much time?

It just implies that no matter how well I play my trooper it just doesn't matter because the healer might not do as well so I pay the price. The developers said more recently (within the past month or so) that groups have been balanced to the effect that if the tank makes a mistake or the healer misses a heal it won't cause a wipe. A lot of the newer vids I've seen the healer is playing half dps and only focusing on healing during the tougher fights
Oh boy, I get a sweet lightsaber but get relegated to standing around playing 'health bar whack-a-mole' and be solely responsible if the group wipes ("If she makes a mistake, everybody's done for"). What breathtaking innovation in this genre of gaming. I'm not asking for it to be a GW2 clone, just to not be a WoW clone, and it's shaping up to be closer to the latter. At least the profession/crafting is a big improvement, but that's about all I can say for it atm.

Not to mention PVP is also going to be balanced around the usage of tanks, essentially limiting successful groups to those that have tanks AND healers, further proving the Trinity itself is outdated and redundant.
Aside from all the healer is necessary talk, I'd like to point out, by looking at the health bar (healer player here, I have some… reflexes), that the tank doesn't seem to take all the damage. Either the tank sucks or the class is horribly broken… in the wrong way.
I know some people here -believe- GW2 is way better than TOR, but I would appreciate if GW2 fans could stop trashing TOR and keep those opinions to themselves. I believe it's more beneficial for GW2 is we don't alienate other communities from GW2 because of an aggressive/elitist community.
In the end everyone decides which game to play so the harsh comments are not needed here. :)

One person mentioned the line about healers, and so all the little fanboys desperate for ammunition, dog piled here copy pasting that point, as if they had all come up with it, pretending to be objective, random posters and thus, making their community look even more petty and insecure than before. They of course fail to recognize the companions system and the other classes healing ability.
This is my first look at this game and it looks horrible... I am extremely unimpressed. Graphics are poor gameplay looks extremely boring .... and healer and main tank .... that is so last year.

@Hamptoncltn I have watched several videos now and most if not all besides this one are current, 2011 demos. The game stll has not impressed me. Having a healer and a tank class /holy trinity is very much overdone and a tired system.
SWTOR had a chance to make something really good. Considering star wars is a gun first melee second type of venue. The people making this game could have made the game much more action oriented. More of a first person shooter type of a game. But they didnt

Apparently I have not been browsing the proper places because everything I have read about swtor is that it gets boring quickly and it is a big letdown.
They had a chance to make a innovative game and they decided to follow the same tired mmo formula.

totally agree with you, it just sucks to have even the possibility of failing a whole party just because the trooper (tank) or the consular (healer) are bad. Don't get me wrong, this is a good game but IMO this is for the SW fans only. I say give the trooper a shotgun and the smuggler a pistol, exchange both Jedi swords to medieval swords and we have another regular MMO like any other existing right now.
@Phillyche3secak3 GW2 didn't get rid of healers, it just gave everyone healing abilities. TOR has self healing for Jedi Knights, the Scoundrels can heal as well. Also you have the companion system, which means you can take healer companions to make up for healing.

Each class has its own unique set of companions, they are part of the story and can fill roles in parties each with their own stories, that can even craft/gather.

That said, it looks fun. I plan on buying GW2 eventually and playing both. Games don't need to reinvent the wheel. They just have to be fun.
This game looks like shit. I can't say anymore. I expected a good game that's been in development for nearly 10 years to come out strong, and be a leader. @arvbur09 The goal is to make it run on most computers. I did a scan on their website for beta testing, and they will reply later to see if you can even run it before you can beta test. I'm pretty sure if my 2006 computer can easily run games like Mass Effect 2, Fallout New Vegas, etc. I'm sure your computer can run this game.
One thing that is very very silly is that everybody with a blaster seem to have somekind of super-full-auto, including the "breach droids". So basically there's 2 people (one of the a droid) who shoots each other atleast 200 times in the face before the battle is over. So unecessary...

Now, talking about the balanced classes, GW2 have so much more balancet than SWTOR, because in GW2 every class can roll and cast skills while moving, and so avoid melee combat (mages havent so much melee skills), but melee weapons, such as sword, have more DPS than other attacks, so the balance is done. In SWTOR you cant cast skills while moving, which means that ranged classes have an enormous disadvantage

Aw that didn't look exciting at all. :/ I never understood why enemies would have this aggro concept. I mean the heale/protector is standing 1 metre perfectly in range of that big robot and then it simply attacks the trooper because it has "aggro". =.= I hope they change it or do something that makes it actually feel like star wars.

@BeKures every game requires skill to some extent. U could say that fps style of play is skilless as this. u just got to point and click a button and have, what 2-3 abilitys? top pvp gamers in MMO's are highly skilled compared to FPS players and are in a bracket of there own. Its there reactive abiltys that a more skillful and thinking 2-3 steps ahead of an opponent almost like chess.

@BeKures Fair comment. i suppose its what u like. i know people consider auto targeting fairly skill less,when players pvp in MMO's the top brackets are usually worlds apart from the rest of the pack.
@calyptic101 I agree that auto-targeting takes no skill whatsoever. Age of Conan was the only tab-targeting MMO that actually required half a brain to be successful in PvP. Initially the gear in AoC only accounted for 25% of your damage output, but due to cries from carebear gamers this is not the case anymore. The gear basically does the work for you which is dumb in my opinion. Success in PvP should be about who can better utilize the keyboard & mouse, not about who has the best gear.
You can always play a multiplayer FPS if you think this. Gear should be a factor. I agree it shouldn't be the only factor, but it's called rewarding the skillful.
@je25ff Again, to each his own. Some players actually would prefer the W handed to them opposed to earning it. If gear should remain a factor in PvP then it defeats the purpose of even calling it PvP. The term should be dubbed GvG (gear vs gear) instead. The whole point behind PvP is to pit one players skill against another players skill. Victory should not come down to whoever has the best gear just because they spend countless hours grinding. There is absolutely no skill in that.
And? Go check Rift so many staff is from wow if ur making MMORP it does not mean it have to be same as wow. In fact im looking for something different to play then wow, maybe not something that different like star wars but even this game looks great. The consular has 2 paths, as with the Sith Inquisitor
They have a Ranged DPS path and a Healing/Support path. Smugglers are the other healing class for the Republic faction, and have a healing path and a close range stealth path.

One person mentioned the line about healers, and so all the little fanboys desperate for ammunition, dog piled here copy pasting that point, as if they had all come up with it, pretending to be objective, random posters and thus, making their community look even more petty and insecure than before. @Hamptoncltn I have watched several videos now and most if not all besides this one are current, 2011 demos. The game stll has not impressed me. Having a healer and a tank class /holy trinity is very much overdone and a tired system.
SWTOR had a chance to make something really good. Considering star wars is a gun first melee second type of venue. The people making this game could have made the game much more action oriented. More of a first person shooter type of a game. But they didnt

@Mantose262 those are the basics with games that has to do with raids. Without a healer everyone will die. Unless the classes are super tanks, which can get boring as hell after a while. It would basically be like playing a private server. This game beats WoW, maybe slightly like it but it's not a WoW clone. It follows the basics of a MMO, even WoW got that from somewhere. Either way your opinion anyways, from other people experience they say the game is amazing.

Apparently I have not been browsing the proper places because everything I have read about swtor is that it gets boring quickly and it is a big letdown.
They had a chance to make a innovative game and they decided to follow the same tired mmo formula.

@Hamptoncltn eq2 came out how long ago? That game had tons of voice overs in it.... I wouldnt call that innovative. There is another game coming out that is fully voiced fairly soon that looks more innovative and promising.
I really wanted to like swtor because I am a big star wars fan ... but I cant do it. I have looked at alot of video I have read the website ... I just cant get into it. Maybe if I have the time I will buy the box and play the free month later on next year sometime.

No expansion is going to change the game to make it innovative enough to where it should be already. And it shouldnt need an expansion to make it interesting... it should already have me hooked. totally agree with you, it just sucks to have even the possibility of failing a whole party just because the trooper (tank) or the consular (healer) are bad. Don't get me wrong, this is a good game but IMO this is for the SW fans only. I say give the trooper a shotgun and the smuggler a pistol, exchange both Jedi swords to medieval swords and we have another regular MMO like any other existing right now.

@Phillyche3secak3 GW2 didn't get rid of healers, it just gave everyone healing abilities. TOR has self healing for Jedi Knights, the Scoundrels can heal as well. Also you have the companion system, which means you can take healer companions to make up for healing.

@Phillyche3secak3 Does wow have starship combat? 60+ novels worth of choice driven gameplay, with each class having it's own unique story? Each class has its own unique set of companions, they are part of the story and can fill roles in parties each with their own stories, that can even craft/gather.
Of course it sounds like a rip off because you refuse to accept any other judgment.
That's like me saying GW2 combat is a ripoff of Dungeons and Dragons Online, or Vindictus.

@Phillyche3secak3 Oh and I can also say that the dynamic quest system, is just a rip off of Rift's Invasion system, which is a rip off of Warhammer Online's dynamic quests. See how that works? GW2 isn't that innovative and it's just more of the same High Fantasy setting.
That said, it looks fun. I plan on buying GW2 eventually and playing both. Games don't need to reinvent the wheel. They just have to be fun.
Buy and play what you enjoy.

@arvbur09 The goal is to make it run on most computers. I did a scan on their website for beta testing, and they will reply later to see if you can even run it before you can beta test. I'm pretty sure if my 2006 computer can easily run games like Mass Effect 2, Fallout New Vegas, etc. I'm sure your computer can run this game.

One thing that is very very silly is that everybody with a blaster seem to have somekind of super-full-auto, including the "breach droids". So basically there's 2 people (one of the a droid) who shoots each other atleast 200 times in the face before the battle is over. So unecessary...

SWTOR: Jedi/Sith seems to have a tremendous advantage on shooters, and there is the old Holy Trinity with a JEDI HEALER (I mean, thats ridicolous)

@ChonsyRules Blanaced classes added now,Trooper gets to keep on tanking while being a Commando,And vice versa for the Vanguard,One of em will get Healing abilities making em combat medics,Same goes for Bounty Hunters,Jedi consulars and Sith inquisitors are going to be equally strong in melee(excluding abilies) as a Sith Warrior and a Jedi Knight,And aint going to be the Ranged only attackers if they go Sage or sorceror,And aint going to be the never leaves stealth guys as assasin and shadow

Now, talking about the balanced classes, GW2 have so much more balancet than SWTOR, because in GW2 every class can roll and cast skills while moving, and so avoid melee combat (mages havent so much melee skills), but melee weapons, such as sword, have more DPS than other attacks, so the balance is done. In SWTOR you cant cast skills while moving, which means that ranged classes have an enormous disadvantage

Aw that didn't look exciting at all. :/ I never understood why enemies would have this aggro concept. I mean the heale/protector is standing 1 metre perfectly in range of that big robot and then it simply attacks the trooper because it has "aggro". =.= I hope they change it or do something that makes it actually feel like star wars.

U could say that fps style of play is skilless as this. u just got to point and click a button and have, what 2-3 abilitys? top pvp gamers in MMO's are highly skilled compared to FPS players and are in a bracket of there own. Its there reactive abiltys that a more skillful and thinking 2-3 steps ahead of an opponent almost like chess.

@calyptic101 I agree that auto-targeting takes no skill whatsoever. Age of Conan was the only tab-targeting MMO that actually required half a brain to be successful in PvP. Initially the gear in AoC only accounted for 25% of your damage output, but due to cries from carebear gamers this is not the case anymore. The gear basically does the work for you which is dumb in my opinion. Success in PvP should be about who can better utilize the keyboard & mouse, not about who has the best gear.

@je25ff Again, to each his own. Some players actually would prefer the W handed to them opposed to earning it. If gear should remain a factor in PvP then it defeats the purpose of even calling it PvP. The term should be dubbed GvG (gear vs gear) instead. The whole point behind PvP is to pit one players skill against another players skill. Victory should not come down to whoever has the best gear just because they spend countless hours grinding. There is absolutely no skill in that.

@talonn4 There are 2 advanced classes, sage and shadow.
Sage heals and uses some other funky force powers, the shadow uses stealth and deals burst damage with double bladed lightsabers.
The inquis. can also heal, as can the imperial agent (with Kolto darts) and the smuggler.

The consular has 2 paths, as with the Sith Inquisitor
They have a Ranged DPS path and a Healing/Support path. Smugglers are the other healing class for the Republic faction, and have a healing path and a close range stealth path.
