Dont worry. Most CCTV systems record at 0.1MP and the quality is that bad, you wouldnt recognise yourself. In order for CCTV to be effective in the fight against crime, the old analogue systems need to give way to the new high definition digital multi-million pixel systems.

CCTV only helps solve the case. With light sentencing in the UK the criminal gets off with a caution or a small fine and just re-offends.

Of course the crime rate does not go down.

I've been filing Freedom of Information requests for just over a year now on Big Brother. I urge others to as well. You just may discover as I did the number of policies, procedures, (Ontario) provincial guidelines and legislation Big Bro violates. Worst, you may find as I did, that no elected official or entity had ever looked into Big Brother's conduct and operations.

You may also discover that your Mr. "If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear" balks at public scrutiny.

Personally, given the choice between a gun-free surveillance society and an unmonitored society that allows weapons I'd choose the later any day of the week. I don't trust politicians with our welfare. Humans have been the same species since history was recorded and there is tremendous potential for abuse when you strip people of the right to bear arms, protest, and live private lives.

Actually you don't, happenedto me. Most british police are quite friendly to drunks (seen as how they deal with them ALL the time). They told me just to take it easy next time. I wasn;t mugged, just followed as I was staggering bit.

They picked me up to check i didn't need a hospital visit.

Use CCTV to identify the people involved, through Police databases or local crimewatch schemes, and ensure justice is administered? Common sense really.

I saw the gangbangers who mugged me a few days later on the bus. The bus was fitted with CCTV but the police didn't manage to get the footage from the bus company...

On the same day, we went into the local off-licence with the police looking for the gang and the shopkeeper told us that they don't record the pictures. Why is CCTV for then?

I dont mind the cameras personally, I got into a very dangerous situations when me and a couple of friends were ambushed and threatened with knives, thankfully the CCTV was on and the police came to our rescue in under a minute.
