Not entirely sure what a lot of people are commenting about here, ive never heard of the rule where you have to wear 16oz gloves to spar.. training for 5years in kickboxing an boxing through several of both pretty decent and legendary gyms in Brooklyn N.Y. Also ot sure where these critiques are coming from about the gym not being "good"..
not sure who commented on the 16's usually if same size 14's ok , 16's if close to tournamnet time or pro fight time so nobody gets hurt unnecassariily or if one partner bigger in weight than other then bigger wears bigger gloves. When I work with my lighhtweight I wear 20OZ due to I weight 245 he weighs 132 let him wear either 10 or 12 depending on how close fight time is.
@brandeezy108 ya a little hard but some sparring partners only know one speed hahahaha but good learning experience and ya they are the same size just different ages of course.
@tonydorsett33 well, i don't know every gym is different. but i rarely see the adults being the ones to go all out while the 13 year old looks like he's holding back more. again every gym is is different. i'm sort of new to my gym and my sparring partner is a national champion, but he wears 12 oz. amateur gloves while i have 16 oz. sparring gloves.
@brandeezy108 Well I don't know what gym you go to but it sounds like they don't know what they are doing. First off, BOTH sparring partners should be wearing sparring gloves that are at least 16oz with head gear. Second, there's nothing wrong with going full speed if your gym takes the proper precautions. Age means nothing, weight and experience means much more.
@tonydorsett33 well, i don't know maybe it just looks harder when looking at it through a video, i've had my share of gym wars to be honest. you're right with 16 oz. there is no problem with going all out. that was my mistake. i just don't usually see the adult being the one with the faster pace than the younger boxer at least not on youtube. it will make him tougher. but aside from that flaw in the precautions, my gym is actually a really good gym, with really experienced trainers and fighters.
@brandeezy108 I'm from Mexico, we have kids as young as 14 years old who turn pro. If you are good, you are good, age means nothing. There's nothing wrong with going all out. You do need to wear the proper equipment so you don't get injured. Sparring with 12 and 14oz gloves is not very smart. No offense but if they are doing that in your gym, you might need real trainers and a real gym.
@tonydorsett33 i do have real trainers and and a real gym, it's just that one flaw. not all the people in the gym spar with those weight of gloves. it was just that one individual who spars with 12 oz. amateur gloves. 14 oz. should be fine if you are smaller but that would be my limit because i myself am pretty small. there isn't really anything wrong with my trainers. they are all VERY experienced in almost every field of boxing other than that one flaw. trust me on that.

this is some hard sparring! a little too hard. just a little. but i'm sure the kid could handle it. i mean they were fairly the same size anyway.

@brandeezy108 That's why you have 16oz gloves and head gear on so you can go hard without getting hurt.
