@TheYaom I've been there twice and I liked it. Hoping to move there someday. I think they're describing their ethnicity rather than nationality. I think this is where you're getting confused. When one says "im russian" or "im polish" im pretty sure they're simply describing their ethnicity. Nationality and ethnicity are two different things. And as far as I know 35% and 65% are way too high of numbers being that irish, italian, polish, russian etc communities exist and thrive in America.

I grew up in North Dakota... for the most part, a homogeneous population of white people with Nordic ancestry. The characterizations he lists on his blog and in his book fit better with the lifestyles / attitudes / behavior of those who live in the populated area of the state, and definitely not the rural population. I always enjoy reading it and calling people out on things. I think he needs to make some sort of supplement though to include all the things that "Hipsters" do and follow.

I'm white, read this book, and thought it was hilarious. Although I think he really meant it to be "Stuff American White Democrats Like". There were so many white stereotypes, especially Southern white stereotypes, in there that weren't in the book. Things like NASCAR and country music for instance. I wish some of those were in there.

Its really wierd that class never gets mentioned here. The blog is clearly about whites from (upper) middle class backgrounds, and in fact is more an satire of class than race. Why is class never used as a term of analyse in North America? Perhaps the blog answers that question. Because socio-historical mechanisms have confounded class and race to an astonishing extent in the US both in reality and in the public imagination.

On the flipside, working class white people, particularly in urban areas often identify strongly with black and Latino cultures. This is certainly a class blog, but of a class which typifies, and is populated almost exclusively by 'white' America. :) It's about coming from a privileged cultural background, more than it is a racial thing.

However, there are exceptions, those known as the Afro-centric, which they think that they are from Africa and think that the white man has taken away their culture. @xekul Hmmm when was the last time you filled out a form, 2000? Nearly all forms nowadays give the option for Black and African American lol except the 2010 census forms. They added "Negro" just in case blacks felt they weren't apart of those two classes.
