I'm a commercial filmmaker (although Francis Ford Coppola doesn't quite agree of the use of the word "filmmaker" in that context) so my views may be biased.

But think about this question: If an artist makes a piece of art that gets sold so that she makes a living, does that make her art less significant?

I don't think so at all, but make your own judgements.

The next question is regarding commissioned art, is a work of art less appealing if it was commissoned?

everyone has to make a living. if you make me a little sad with this video, it's not because i think you have no character, but because your video is a reminder of how society forces artists to sell their souls from time to time, more like rent their souls, to pay the bills. then again, if you show the phone thing to be a total failure next episode, i would be really happy. i mean, i hope you get organized, but if one phone doesn't turn you're life around, which it probably won't, then be honest

i don't know if the nexus is really an iphone killer. But i do know that the video previews and the way they are advertising the phone suck, compared to the way in which apple displayed and previewed it's iphone. If the nexus is better, they need to step up their presentations, drastically!

I could see that. I wondered about that when editing. Then thought that it was cool because this actually isn't an advertisement. This is not going to play on TV, there was no ad agency. It was really just me telling my life story while simultaneously fulfilling the request that google had for me to make a video for a substantial sum of money. Saying yes to the money is pretty much mandatory for me at this point to insure my computer, hard drive, and food expenses get covered.

I recall seeing you in a CTFXC video when the partners were called to Google HQ for a meeting. I guess we know why now. Looking forward to the phone, it's just not great that they're following the same commercialisation as iphone.
