Do you have or know where I can find a copy of the GM film called, "Diesels to Dollars" which was produced around 1957. I've seen brief clips of the film, so I know it exists. The GM archives advised me that they don't have it in their library. I've looked everywhere and can not find it.
By the way, trainluvr is quite correct in his comments.
At 10:35: "they have invested millions for big, beautiful expressways, and millions more in street widening, only to have the extra lanes bottled up by still more private cars.." --something we learned over 50 years ago and yet we're just starting to ween ourselves away from throwing ever more dollars at highway construction.
And what's doubly interesting is how this essentially anti-car statement made it into a GM propaganda piece. I guess the truck and coach div had a good deal of autonomy?
Very nice contribution. Thank you. Let us not forget, however that GM conspired with oil and tire companies to substitute buses for electric trolleys, thus increasing our dependence on fossil fuels while reducing the need for exclusive transit corridors (tracks) that would guarantee a smooth, fast ride so essential for retaining ridership. Whatever will we do as fossil fuel flows inevitably decline?
