@alvinabejuro because it is a style of dance that requires the utmost fluidity, yet fluiddance just doesn't work well it probably breaks down from from rivers being constantly flowing fluid bodies of water, thus river being used to describe fluidity thus river dance.... just an assumption, but it does make logical since if you break it up that way.

I think this is one of the most amazing dances i've ever seen. Mostly because of the contrast between the two parts. First the subtleness of the first half, followed by the intensity of the second half. Awesome!

I also think it's worth noting that when you compare this version to the feet of flames version filmed 2 years later, you can see the difference in the performance, they enjoy FoF a lot more it would seem, yet here they seem much more focused on the moves! Again, Awesome!

@typicality Ditto. Plus you have to give these girls props. The choreography for the second half is HARD. There's a video on here somewhere of Sarah Clarke doing this dance on her own as a solo, and you can really see how difficult this dance is.

@rlrsk8r1 It's basically them showing Morrighan (the girl in red dress) that Saoirse (the girl in white) can overcome her with her own seductiveness. Morrighan is supposed to symbolise lust, where as Saoirse is supposed to symbolise love, and it kind of shows that love has just as much passion and strength as lust. At least, thats how I interpret it. :)

@dhanwantri @0:14, that is called a double switch. At least that's what my Irish dance school calls them. Irish dance terms are not standardized

@0:32, that's a rock.

Double switches are harder to master, but not the hardest. Rocks aren't that hard. They're in the St. Patrick's Day jig which is kind of the ultimate beginner dance.

Thank you SO MUCH for putting this vid up! I taped it off the tv when our PBS station ran it one Christmas back in the late 90's, and I've watched it so often the tape is trashed. Now, thanks to you, I can see it again!
