I always wondered what that second track was at the Main St Station. I love learning bits of the park's history. It's amazing to see remnants like it throughout the park today.
Excellent video! Where did you get all this awesome vintage footage? I had no idea that Disneyland originally had 2 railroads that sort of shared the same tracks. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Such a shame that the Retlaw I cars are no longer at Disneyland with the exception of Parlor Car 106 the Lilly Belle aka Grand Canyon. The freight train Retlaw II is still there but has been modified and is now the Holiday 2 Red. Both engines the Ripley and Holliday still run at Disneyland to this day.
in 1966 if you spent the night on Tom Sawers island and you hid out near the cabin on fire,,you could spend another day at the park as long as your family did not miss you, it was a truely great night..the park closed at 10'o'clock and you could believe that you were part of something great..and you could BE part of the park..looking back on it now it seemed wrong but it was a dare..I have not had a great time then that night it was wonderful..and magic
Also the background music loop for Frontierland is "mostly" comprised of music from Hollywood westerns. This is one of the songs that they've played in Frontierland for decades.
So is this second train the one that is able to be seen with gophers popping out of it during the steamboat cruise? Or was that another train as well?
With what it is today, it's hard to imagine what the circle tour train ride would have been like in '55... No Splash Mountain, no Grand Canyon / Primeval World diorama, no It's a Small World, no New Orleans Square...
That was really informative I had no idea the trains bypassed the stations like that. That explains the extra track at the mainstreet station that doesn't go to anywhere. It's probably an homage.

It was quite a vision that Walt Disney had, and he was able to make it all come true, and be so successful too- really amazing
