  • What do you guys mean by energy? Cool video, btw.

  • @quintzandco Thanks, we think it's cool :-D we extracted the 'Energy' feature using The Echo Nest. A description of all our features can be found on our documentation page (bottom links).

  • This is historically interesting but I don't think we will change much because of it. Any tune will usually have a best tempo and that will give a certain length. Loudness can be mixed independently so that is something to think about. Professional mixes these days are about fifty percent louder than private mixes so bands who do their own mixes are often passed over by broadcasters because of this.

  • @FoxyFreedomvideo Hi! Everything you say above we completely agree with. We were interested in seeing which features changed through time, and whether they were beneficial to chart performance. We did notice that loudness increased quite drastically over the years, although our data suggests that it's actually on the decrease now. Thanks for your insight and comment!

  • So in 2011 tempos of 190 or more are the most popular?

I don't see any speedcore in the charts...

  • @ZeWarlord Hi and thanks for the interest in the video. A brief explanation - the bars for tempo are always relatively small, showing that it isn't a hugely important feature for determining hits, compared to, say, energy. You are right that faster tempos seem to be more important in the past few years though! This could have caused by some fast dubstep entering the charts in recent years, although it's hard to say without looking at individual songs.

  • So, is there a software program i can run my song through with gives out a score.. ?

  • @Boehoehuahoei we are actually working on this at the moment, check our website for updates!

  • coming from your hp. cool work!

Determining tempo and signature changes within a single song is not easy. What you did looks fantastic!

  • @g3warrior Hi and thanks! However, note that we are not determining tempo/time signature changes within a single track, just on a track-by-track basis. The documentation of all our features can be found at under the documentation page of our website.
