I've played roller derby for 4 yrs now & I'd like to address a couple things: 1) roller derby is not just an American sport- it was created in the U.S. in 1935, but is currently played all over the world. I've skated with leagues in Australia & know of leagues in the UK, Germany, France, Dubai, Canada, etc.
(2) There are over 500 leagues worldwide, roughly 400 of which are in the U.S., so there's bound to be a league near you if you're interested in checking it out- no need to make a roadtrip!

That said, roller derby is hardly a decent sport. It's something that men don't do because it's beneath them, and women do because anyone who knows how to skate around a circle can get involved. If it were really worth doing, men would do it.

Many sports, like roller derby or softball, are made especially for women. It wouldn't be fun to watch women play baseball or hockey, so they tone the games down and wear skimpy clothes to make the game more exciting.
I'm not saying that a women can't ever be better than a man at sports. But an average man is much better at most sports than the average women.
