It bothers me reading these comments. You all haven't grasped the meaning of the movie. I'll let you just sit here and come up with some more bull. Let it be a mystery cause I'm not wasting my time telling you all.
This is the worst movie I've ever seen. Not because it sucked, but because it made me feel awful! I hated the fact that Sara was mentaly disabled. Ahe was so proud of her son, and wanted everyone to see him, she wanted to see him too, but he ends up in prison. I hate that there are no epilogue of this movie! I want Sara to see Harry again, and the fact that she doesn't bothers me much more than I'd ever thought a movie would make me do!

For example when the main character visits his mom and hes trying to stop her from taking uppers. Our parents rarely ever listen to what we're saying because they're in their own world. We lie to them about ourselves and it is rarely a trustful relationship. People talk at each other not to each other.

When it comes to that mentally disabled thing, i used the wrong verb, I meant BECAME, she became a vegtable after the failed electrical shock treatment. In the last scene of the movie, it's pretty clear that Sara is locked inside her own head, where she keeps reliving her dream, where she could show the World her successful son.

Ok this is what actually happened, lots of these comments are wrong. She was given amphetamines as diet pills, but got amphetamine psychosis from them and was given electro-convulsive therapy. In real life however ECT is not a therapy for psychosis and is always administered under general anaesthetic, so in that aspect the movie was inaccurate (as are nearly all depictions of ECT in the media).
She got addicted to wight loss pills and went insane because she never got to be on tv. and after a bunch of psychotherapy treatments didnt work the do electroshock therapy. (: trippy freaking movie

@BreckR Because I was addicted to heroin for 8 years. I managed to stop using 3 years ago thanks to methadone. It took another 2 years to come off the methadone. Now I am drug-free and have no intention of associating with addicts, watching films about heroin or doing anything that might trigger my desire to use again.
The Woman was on 1960's diet pills (basically pure amphetamines) and she lost her mind, so doctors reccomended the treatment, and she was so fucked up, she just took it.

My family resembles this movie in so many ways. My younger brother overdosed 3 times and has also been arrested multiple times, he is serving time right now in the pen. My older brother overdosed and fell down a flight of stairs. They found him 3 days later and had to amputate his leg above the knee. Mom is on so many meds she can hardly cope. Welcome to the real world of drugs. It's a straight up journey to hell before the devil knows your dead.

@lamal3 speaking from experience, "opening your mind" isn't the only reason you do drugs. It's an escape. It's a chance to feel good in an otherwise hopeless life. That doesn't mean addicts are without direction either. It helps you feel as if work isn't work at all. The most meaningless of tasks are enjoyable.
I stopped watching at 1:44, everything was crazy before that, but I just couldn't take the mother getting electrocuted. This wrenches my heart, just like the ending of the movie. I watched this movie for Health Class so my teacher can "Can scare Us" into not doing drugs. I have to admit it's a good movie but the end scene he tried to block with his body (we have a smart board) and man, it didn't work at all!
Sarah is getting ECT but I don't think there's any state or country in the west that performs it on concious patients anymore. But it was effective for the story. And you can't tell what actually is taking place in that gauntlet and what represents the characters feelings.
Electroconvulsive therapy. It's like a less deadly version of the electric chair used to help people with psychiatric problems. Usually it is done aenethsitised - but awake like this is very similar to electroshock thereapy - and exceedingly dangerous.
A long time ago, it was considered viable treatment. Now it's just barabric.
@MamahhSkitsoee, don't ever do crack, it gets you high for 10 minutes and severely addicted very fast. It's good this film had an affect on you, this is an honest story about the extremes of addiction and not a propaganda media scare story.

@poetry551 O rly? Are these facts based from when you smoke it out of a pipe, joint, bong or vap? There are many way to smoke weed and as someone who smokes weed and cigarettes, I can tell you cigs have way more tar than weed. Weed has resin that will build up in pipes but smoking through a water filtered pipe or using a vap reduces the amount of resin completely when used right. Its still not as healthy as not smoking at all but its not nearly as bad as health professionals and science assumes.
Oh, and better go smoke a joint with some friends in a nice location and have some laughs, instead of being a cod nerd, shooting others all day and having no social life..(at least your channel looks like that)
I felt the worst for marion because at least the others couldnt really get their hands on drugs where they were at the end of the movie... marion's character was not resolved as much as the others...

Majority of white people do this shit. They take their bodies to the extreme and know no limits. They have no direction in life and believe in nothing but themselves. People like this have no beliefs in life and think it's a journey to learn oneself by trying this shit. It's pretty pathetic and this movie takes you to crazy land. Nobody needs to take drugs to make themselves open up their minds. I'm pretty sure whoever is watching this movie has done some sort of drugs, so they relate to.

@lamal3 speaking from experience, "opening your mind" isn't the only reason you do drugs. It's an escape. It's a chance to feel good in an otherwise hopeless life. That doesn't mean addicts are without direction either. It helps you feel as if work isn't work at all. The most meaningless of tasks are enjoyable.

I stopped watching at 1:44, everything was crazy before that, but I just couldn't take the mother getting electrocuted. This wrenches my heart, just like the ending of the movie. I was depressed after watching the movie for a few days, it's really something...different, even when I watch videos of it, I feel the sadness brewing. I love this movie, but I hate it at the same time, a lot of movies are "sad" dramas, but this movie right here is true sadness and depression,

I watched this movie for Health Class so my teacher can "Can scare Us" into not doing drugs. I have to admit it's a good movie but the end scene he tried to block with his body (we have a smart board) and man, it didn't work at all!

Sarah is getting ECT but I don't think there's any state or country in the west that performs it on concious patients anymore. But it was effective for the story. And you can't tell what actually is taking place in that gauntlet and what represents the characters feelings.

@poetry551 O rly? Are these facts based from when you smoke it out of a pipe, joint, bong or vap? There are many way to smoke weed and as someone who smokes weed and cigarettes, I can tell you cigs have way more tar than weed. Weed has resin that will build up in pipes but smoking through a water filtered pipe or using a vap reduces the amount of resin completely when used right. Its still not as healthy as not smoking at all but its not nearly as bad as health professionals and science assumes.
