Sting is amazing! I got the thrill of singing with him on stage at his concert at the Gorge, WA. To see the video, search Jessica Ketola - check it out!
I saw the whole 45 minutes on VH1 and you could tell Stewart was really hungry for this, and he was getting frustrated because Sting seemd nonchalant, like he could afford to walk out of the project at any moment, and Andy just didn't know what was going on.
sorry I talk a lot, I have the entire thing Tivo'd so I might post it if I get the time this weekend
copeland was the most solid of the three. andy needs the most work, stop the jazz technobabble, that solo was awful. Stewart had to shout him the chords throughout several songs, and he's the freaking drummer.
Sting sounds good all the time. Wonder if he sang an octave lower on "voices inside my head" on purpose? Or maybe he can't hit the pitch anymore... that would be a real shame
I'm a guitarist and play regularly in a band. I thought Andy's guitar playing was excellent. You may not like the jazzy dissonant solos in "Running Down" but if you are familiar with the Police live, those outside the box solos are typical on those featured tunes. For more typical pentatonic soloing, listen to "So Lonely" live.
All three are supremely talent - listen to a million other bands and come back to these three - THREE! - and it's always amazing the intricacies they can come up with.
I'm not a guitar player, but Andy seemed to me very far from a good shape. Sorry, his guitar seemed even out of tune... I love them since 1980, but I don't want to see them playing bad. I hope that they will play far better than this!
Rumour is, they've been practicing for months. I saw an interview (in Japanese, not released in english yet, I think) when Stewart says that they were REALLY bad, but they're a lot better now!
Damn, but they sound good. This video makes you very aware of the fact that we're witnessing a musical reunion that should never have taken place at all, really. Special. Fantastic. I will see them live.
these fragments sound good. it seems that andy is particularly inspired, showing the beautiful bluesy and flowing lines such as those at the end of the "message" recording. good luck, guys

I dunno, but I think hearing these songs, Stingo´s voice sound a little bit wasted.
Andy/Stewart are masters, and Sting too, but just in his bass player.

Man, I'm looking forward to this tour. Copeland sounded amazing at the Grammys and they've got months more to rehearse before hitting the road.

...my brother and I were watching it and saying that the guitar solo in 'Running Down' wasn't so good, so, interesting that you mention that. hehe
