What I did with my Mame box, is on my contacts I would cover it with sauder, then took the wick and cleaned it up, and it left enough sauder on the contacts for you wire to connect. I plan to make a video about it soon, and am going to talk about that. I had ran out of wire in the process and grabbed an old power supply, and used its wires.
you dont suck at soldering - the soldering iron you are using is TOO HOT for this PCB - try using a lower wattage iron - i tried moding a xbox with a 75 watt iron. the board damaged. i did the same thing with a 25 watt iron and it went fine! - good luck
