Many theists confuse being against organized religion with atheism. While many atheists are also against organized religion, many atheists support organized religions that don't require belief in a God (for example many Buddhists are atheist). At the same time, I know many people who believe in God or a higher power, yet are vehemently against organized religions, which they see as nothing but man-made organization that exploit that higher powers name for personal gain and power.

Althought actually The Golden Compass was a piece of crap of a film.
I did however, quite liked the whole Dark Materials trilogy The Golden Compass is the first book of, when I read them back in the day. Pullman's portrayal of god was also indeed, quite amusing.
So again, I wouldnt recommend the movie, but I would recommend the books.

I don't have kids yet, but if I ever do, my plan isn't to force atheism on them (although I would like them to be atheists). Funny, I read all three books years before they made the first one onto a movie. Untill the third book, I didn't think it was anything other than a fantasy story. Only in the third, "The Amber Spyglass" do I remember there being anything about any God with any similarities to anything in the real world. How can it teach Athiestic values without any comment on religon at all??? (In the first book)

Never the less, they are very spiritual - a world of magical creatures, worship of various gods - there is a believe in a higher level of knowledge there - but what that is - we just don't know. I don't have kids yet, but if I ever do, my plan isn't to force atheism on them (although I would like them to be atheists). I want them to make their own decisions when they grow up, because in my opinion, children and religion is as ridiculous as children and politics, or children and rocket science. They just don't go.

Yeah you're very right. Promoting atheism isn't even indoctrination. It's not about manipulating the minds of children to let them accept anything without questioning it. It's just teaching them, like school teaches them how to subtract numbers, read and everything. It's just education. Atheism does not have any foundation on a doctrine but its foundation is science and common sense. It's all about logic. Umm just to let u know, in the series "Dust" is the True god, as it creates angels, and the "God" they kill is a false god who claims to have created the world when he was the first angel created.

@Epicstoryguy Dust is matter like science and the spirit of free will and no if u listen to (I think) Balthamos' explanation ther is no god in the books just an Angel who was the 1st concious being 2 pop into existence after the big bang

Funny, I read all three books years before they made the first one onto a movie. Untill the third book, I didn't think it was anything other than a fantasy story. Only in the third, "The Amber Spyglass" do I remember there being anything about any God with any similarities to anything in the real world. How can it teach Athiestic values without any comment on religon at all??? (In the first book)

They shouldn't go see the movie, because almost all the religious stuff is left out of it so it can succeed in the US. They should, on the other hand, read the books.

What are atheist values? You mean no values, or anything goes as long as you don't get arrested? What are atheist values? Or should you just think of changing the word values to beliefs? Saying the atheist is not at battle with God is like saying the cat has no beef with the mouse, he eats him because he just wants his cheese.

The film is there to entertain our children,for them to smile,maybe weep but above all to be entertained in a cinema house,when I was a child,my parents called it " family fun "
Religion fucks everything up,including family values.
My daughter is 4 years old,she is so pleasant,kind,loving,honest ,thoughtful and above all she cares for us and others and she has a free mind,we DO NOT NEED religion in our house.
Just believe in yourselves and humankind :)

@lozman67 it is he misinterpretted the books i like him and all but u can tell he didnt read them u see in the books Balthamos explains that ther is no god the big bang created the univers and an angel the 1st concious being after the big bang claimed to hav created evrything els u shood relly read the books they even hav 2 gay rights characters

@TheGIRROX I agree,if everyone on youtube had read all three books the message would have been much clearer. Never the less, they are very spiritual - a world of magical creatures, worship of various gods - there is a believe in a higher level of knowledge there - but what that is - we just don't know. Organised religion claims to know, but the books just say 'what if you're wrong'? What if the story of 'God' was told to you by the 'winner', like any other history book?
