It has advantages and disadvantages, but they cover a lot of philosophies and political orientations. They are not as specific as European parties. You could say that the Democrats cover everything left of a certain point on the political spectrum (that is certainly on the right side) and the Reps cover everything right of it.

Your supreme court ruled against this in the racial context years ago. You can not allow people to discriminate simply by claiming to be a private business or institution. Yoour fundamental rights do not cease the moment you enter private property.
