According to some tablature I read -- because I would never have figured it out on my own -- this song is composed of some very interesting chords that don't follow the common formula. The verse A - Cm# - C - F# - Bm - E - A (twice) followed by the chorus part about bluebirds A - D - B - E (twice) ...followed by G - D - E - G (repeat). So: A Bm C Cm# D E F# G chords and all but two of the available notes: A B C C# D E F# G G#.
Hey guys, if you have a spare minute could you check out some of my covers on my channel and give some feedback. It sucks to have to advertise like this but it seems like the only way to get exposure. Thanks if you do check it out...
Thanks WaldoJeffers25 for uploading this ethereal classic. Just a couple things: the photograph accompanying this upload is historically inaccurate, since Nico and John Cale were not members of the Velvets when this opening track of the third album was recorded. Second, the song in the Valentin mix you have here is actually 4:04 long, not 4:00, so we lose the crucial ending of the song (ouch). But thanks for getting this out there.
@zipzopzupitywop Bullshit, you love thinking you're unique, why else would you post such a pointless, attention whoring comment?
I bet there are lots of kids that like this music, but they actually listen to it instead of turning their music tastes into some kind of 'statement'.
@askalice123 What are you talking about? Everything before 3:04 is beautiful... if somebody doesn't like that, then maybe they don't deserve to listen to The Velvet Underground.
soooooo soulful ... it don't matter what the subject is or when it was sung or what the good/bad/ugly sideshows occurred then and now. what is fabulous in this song is the spirit conveyed and how a fellow human being was able to reach out to bring back for the rest of us to love and listen to.

I wish ppl would stop making all kind of silly comparisons, wether it is with the beatles of radiohead or whatever. This is the Velvet Underground, I grew up with this music and to me it is just a great song, like so many others they made.
This is very Beatles-esque, and that's a good thing, because both The Beatles and The Velvet Underground kick ass. Too bad Velvet Underground is more...well, "underground" and not as popular as The Beatles, because honestly, both bands are on par with each other.

They were this crazy German avant-garde group from the '70s whose music was stuck somewhere in between Funkadelic and Stockhausen. Look 'em up, if you like the VU or Radiohead or really any kinda sterile funk-type music, they should be right up your alley.
@SupperOfTheMightyOne I don't really think Can, which is krautrock, has much to do with the VU, though I do think people who likes VU might enjoy Can. But VU is a "songs" band, while Can is more like a "30 minutes long improvisations" band. I'm quite sure Can did influence Radiohead, too.
@SupperOfTheMightyOne SO, what you are saying is that Radiohead (never heard of them except on youtube) are as original Mylie or Justin B or lady gag gag? Because those two are epicly original...

Radiohead (and mostly Thom Yorke) listened to Can, and even made a cover of one of their songs (the thief), but if you are a real Radiohead fan, you will see that they didnt take "all their hints" from Can or VU, they were deeply inspired by IDM artists such as Aphex Twin and Boards Of Canada, Kautrock, and many many other inspirations, but still they have their own characteristic sound, the sound of Radiohead. In fact, I dont see much influence from Can or VU on Radiohead
When me and other friends of mine decided to quit the "wild life" of our 18-20 period and to calm the fuck down a bit, we passed an evening remembering all the funny and sad things alike that had happened in those 2 years, with this album playing on.
