@gennkill Duh, to isolate y. A -y is not isolated because it is the same as -1y. By multliplying -1, the y can be isolated and the left side of the equation would just equal y.

Math is not hard if you actually use common sense and logic instead of remember steps. This is why our generation are worse than our parents' generation.

@gennkill Why would you want to do that? You want to isolate the y so it is not associated with any value. Multiplying it by -2, -3, -4, and -5 would make it 2y, 3y, 4y, and 5y respectively. All you want to do is make it plan old "y."

To answer your question, no. I'm not saying there's a major education gap and not every parent is a genius compared to today's kids. I'm saying that the quality of the education we get today from America's public education is degraded from what the previous generation got. Everything is so regulated towards state standard (possible national standards in the future).
