I remember Teresa from an acting class at the Paul Endersby Academy in Toronto. I once attended an audition for a gig at the Canadeuro club. Teresa and her mother showed up and the rest of us knew we might as well go home!
I adore this performer. She gave so much. And so much of it was just very, very moving. She really knew how to nail the soul on the wall and really show people not to be afraid of their feelings. Was an intense yet childlike yet rather dark trembling with vibrato voice. Always afascinates and haunts and delights one . Her Lulu was insane and her Traviata exciting. She was also amazing in many other roles. I heard her Liu at the Met inthe 1990's stopped the show.
Not that she wasn't beautiful before, but when she sings, her face loses like 20 years. Or maybe when she speaks she simply sounds older than her years.
This is so beautiful. Stratas is one of the very best but never seems to get the attention or respect she deserves. A million thanks for posting this!
Among many other awards and nominations, Anastasia Strataki was awarded the O.C. (Officer of the Order of Canada) on June 23, 1972 for her services to music.
The voice is still incredibly fresh. What a lesson of singing and interpretation ! :)

The voice and emotional power of a lifetime ... the equal of Caruso and Billie Holiday. I'm totally smitten for Stratas, she knocks me out.
Some spectacular highlights:
* Nedda in "Pagliacci"
* Mimi in "La Boheme"
* Brecht & Weill's "Mahagonny"

Just like to listen to her. That is good for me. Sometime I think that we are too critical. Listen with your ears.

Que hermosa voz! Es sensual y acariciante, primera vez que la oigo cantar otro gènero que no sea òpera. Precioso.

She is amazing...no one can sing Kurt Weill with such flair and deep emotion but flirtatiously like Teresa Stratas.

A very happy birthday to Miss Stratas, now 70.
Is she retired? I have not heard any news regarding any Master Classes or something...
May I ask you when did she sing this excerpt?
Thanks!
