I and many like me have been slinging sauce for over 15 years, and bartenders like this grind out one drink to our 10. Believe me I've lived it - I'm still living it - and I know.
There is, however, such a thing as working flair, but this shit is not it.
sex on the beach " cicarelli" kkkk very good however, he smiles and seems scared to do the movements, especially the shadow, one that goes behind the shaker head
How the hell do people spin the tin all over the place with nothing coming out?!?! No matter how hard I try, even just having 1 25ml shot in it gets spilt for me :-S
...honestly, all you people saying stuff about using the same ice he shook it with or, dying of thirst, or any other daft comments. The video is a WORKING FLAIR DEMO. Not how to make a cocktail, not working ethics behind a bar. So enjoy the flair or go watch a mixo video...
@smokebomb213 HAHA! Wow.. seems a bit disproportionate. Don't get me wrong, I admire people who can flair. I can't do it myself and it fascinates me. It was merely a jovial comment. As for your list, I do literally none of those things. Working on a bar myself I know full well how irritating they are. There is no 'a' in Wetherspoons, by the way.
Looks nice, but he's working so dirty look how he touch with his fingers the strow and then is putting it inside of the glass.... lol, a bartender should look after this details, also he made a lot of show but he even shake so much the drink which is the part of the taste...
If you saw just from 0:55 of him putting the straw in a drink you wouldn't think much of the drink. Seems quite ordinary just sitting there. But, after watching the whole process of it's creation and it finally settles to that position so it can receive it's straw, it looks very sophisticated sitting there. It's like; do I have permission to touch it now?
I can't believe all these people questioning this drink. The guy says "this is a working flair demo" so is there to show working flair and not a classic cocktail. clearly it's a Bacardi mixed and shaken with orange topped with cranberry. I'm not sure the drink has a name but Who For gods sake keeps grenadine on a store and pour? I ask you?
@SchafeyWafey well we'll have to disagree. some brands of cranberry behave differently, the Princes stuff is alot darker and abit thicker than the ocean spray stuff. I'm convinced It's a juice, but not to worry!
everyone can call it what they want, but here in a cocktail bar we call it a bacardi sunrise, Bacardi, Orange Juice, Lime to make it zing, and some Grenadine to make it look pretty and give a nice taste at the start. Bacardi Sunrise. In its easiest form.
Really nice moves, but why is it flair guys never do a real shake? Just one or two limp shakes and then pour, why even bother? Shaking is important, and real bartenders make it the best part of the show!
Truth man, it's all about good dilution, and breaking down your ingredients. Especially with egg-whited drinks, I've employed a flair bartender who limp shook a bourbon sour and served it with lumps of raw egg white in it. Not cool, P45. If it's whited, shake it silly. If it's not, shake it silly!!
you are right, shaking is important. but it depends on what you are making. by the looks of things he made a tequila sunrise i think? (added grenadine to the orange juice to give it that nice colour) and originally this drink is stirred and isnt even shaken so it doesnt need much of a shake. if it was a heavier drink, or needed the cloudy effect shaking leaves then you might do it longer. but even then drinks dont need to be shaken that long as the ice often will break down and dilute your drink
Because he has 2 oz of oj, plus probably 1/2 of cran, if he shakes it MORE he's goign to add more water to his drink, and make it super non strong, thus your tasting nothing but water/oj/cran, thus killing the liqour more, thus you ruin your drink, its suppose to be on the rocks, its not a shake and strain.... if it was shake and strain im pretty sure he'd add more liqour, lil less juice and shake it throughly............but i love your notion =]
ok...when have any of you ever seen grenadine in a pour and store?? and look at the speed of the red liquid pour - way too fast for grenadine. grenadines a thicker, sugar saturated liquid with a far slower pour, something similar to gomme...if you use good grenadine/pomegranate. no idea what the drinks called and who gives a fuck...thats not what the shaker uk lad is showing us on the vid. obviously its cranberry juice, and it sinks also, nowhere near being layered. thanks.
its cranberry jus - fanny baws. wheres the layered effect ...?? i dont see it...maybe ones eyes doth decieve him...but i think your being a wee bit DaFt...
You are all tools... its not grenadine its cranberry juice and he doesn't shake it all together because he wants the cranberry to sink and give that layered effect. Try working in a bar before slating the guy. Good effort i say
How the hell else is he gunna pour the drink in? Throw the liquid up in the air and take the cup, and hope to catch all of it?..Uh, yeah, I don't think so.
no its not "noob"... its a tequilla sunrise.. notice how he covers the air-hole when pouring the "red liquid" (grenadine)... sex on the beach is equal orange and cranberry juice. while this cocktail has more OJ than "cranberry" or grenadine should i say. Some bars do pour the grenadine into speed pourers. that should clear everything up...
you're both wrong. the first bottle he grabs (the only liquor he uses) is bacardi white rum. the drink's called a President Roosevelt... rum OJ and grenadine.
so what is this a drink in your opinion?? Rum Sunrise hahaha your noob... i thought tequilla sunrise is served with tequilla and not rum... shut the fuck up when you dont know... sex on the beach is practicly the same as tequila sunrise
I love the flair techniques man. Good job, and made a pretty good looking drink at it, I may add. Is this a Tequila Sunrise? I guess it doesn't really matter, seeing as you made a perfectly good and even drink with much flair. Hope to see more!
I like the shaker and juice pourer move at 28 seconds. I've seen a lot of flair in my time and have become pretty immune to it's charms, but that trick made me sit up even though its incredibly simple. Something you could really do behind a bar with minimal risk. Cheers for the tip.

@chrisconroy1 .....yeah, I bet you never tip,

and tell your bartender to take the ice out "because it waters your drink down"
and wave your money at your bartender,
and ask for free shots,
and end up getting cut off,
.....because you're a dick
Fuck off to Weatherspoons lad.
