i had a 15" kicker comp that was doing the same thing i looked at this vid and was like no way this wont work well my brother was like try it its not like ur going to lose any thing when the this is already blown so to took my sub inside my house and found out my magnet was lose the i took the cone and the spyder off then took the magnet off put some glue on the magnet put the fram back on the magnet and then did waht he did in the vid with the screw drivers and glued everything and it worked
@groundpound4200 haha lol that would have been a good idea but nah i did actually repair it, what do you mean shim? you just have to be playing a 3hz tone through the coil as you stick the spider and surround down, it doesnt actually affect the way the glue dries, you can slide it on the wet glue to get it lined up perfectly. Although now the cone has been ripped off this as the sub had other problems with the paper cone being creased
Hey dude whats up I have to ask Can u make a video on how to remover the spider without breaking it I rebuild alot of subs and I have the same sub and i think its having the same problems can u show me how u did it or make a video for the next time...anyhow gud video dude
Quick question - I have the same alpine type S sub as you have in this video. My sub has started to make a rattling sound, which goes away after playing beats at a medium volume for about 15mins. Any idea what is is? Just like a missalignment of magnets?
I have a Mutant 12" sub lying around that i havn't bothered to fix. It seems to work fine for a while but then just keeps cutting out and then totally cuts out. I re-wired the connections to the outside of the housing and still the same??? any help???
Most likely is your magnet has moved out of line with the coil - therefore the coil rubs against it. This isnt uncommon to happen especially if the subs been dropped, or just man-handled...
being a 15" it will have a very powerful magnet. If you like you can try and lever the magnet off with a long flathead screwdriver, and re-align it. Thats hard to do unless you take the cone / spider off though... up to you! Sounds likek the exact same problem as in this vid. :)
Cool man. At first it looked like maybe he had completely blown the vc. Cuz if you blow a voice coil just right the coil will come unwound and cause the speaker to become "stuck".
real good man...couple of questions plz...how did you get the spider off...did you just cut it with a knife? and how did you glue the spider back on.and what was the spider glued to? i want to try this with my blown alpine. 5* left 4 u.
would give you 5, but will give you 4/5, as you should always clean the magnetic gap just incase there's any dirt, dust, etc in there which can cause it to rub/scrape or deform the coil former in the future.
good repair. Really, one of the hardest things is to get that spider off. Its so tight on there to make sure under high excursion it does not seperate. But then what? Another? Lol, doubles are even harder. But good job on aligning it, I know those magnets are crazy strong, you cant align it 100% by hand. :P
LOOL .....oh shtt
Good vid tho, mann! keep it up

At 3:45,,, you just smashed the bottom of the VC former(mushroomed it), so it's shorter in length, and won't hit the back plate as easily.

the spider can be got off with that hairdryer trick he did earlier.
or with glue-bonder that softens the glue bond.
