I read a social history of the UK that referenced this archive frequently--it was a little bit chilling in the age of Orwell. People were asked all kinds of things, very personal for the stony UK. But it's the archive's intense work during the Blitz and the War that are really fascinating--I remember one diarist quoted a London housewife who was bombed all night and worked all day: she slept by leaning against the cellar wall when she went to the bin to get coal. She slept in little catnaps.
