  • this songs about elvis' last night on earth

  • @mhz888

Cool. I didn't know that about Elvis connection. We cover this song in my band. I'm gonna tell the other guys in my band about the Elvis thing.

I'm usually the bassist, but I play 12-string Rickenbacher on this and do the lead vocals. One thing I notice about them live, is that the lead singer plays the bass with his index finger only, which is a big - poor form no-no. My bass guitar instructor would have my head if I tried to play like this, but I guess it works for him....

  • Unreal band in a time when music was music if you know what I mean

  • One of the most underrated groups of the 1980s. How could they not have another U.S. hit?

  • great band!! bring back memories, the 80´s... the best!!! ...feeling, lot feeling.

  • This song always reminds me of surfin' Banzai Pipeline, Backdoor and Sunset on the North Shore of Hawai'i back in 1989-90! Fucking epic!! Love the footage here.

  • I remeber when this song came out. West coast, last year in high school, summer was just around the corner and 80s music playing while a bunch of seniors thought they were cool drinking Bartles and James. Wow.

  • Sia probably wasn't born when " The Church" wrote this song you ignorant fuck

  • one of the great aussie bands,,

  • i love the church! great band!!!

  • A U.S. car company is using this song right now on it's advertisements.....

  • Just saw that ad, which brought me to this video!

  • Edit: It's using a lame cover.

  • About 87 or 88, a mate of mine, Joe, was looking to form a studio sort of a band with himself, Koppes, Ploog and Grossman from Divinyls and Hoodoos. Joe asked me to front the band but I freaked out at the prospect of performing in a band with some of the best musos in Oz, and turned it down. Joe ended up going ahead with Damien Lovelock. Kinda wish I had done it now. Would have been the most brilliant fun. Imagine recording with people of this calibre?

  • so great! we just posted our version of this classic. what an amazing composition. kudos to the church!

  • At the end of the show I put his guitar in my anus.

  • then I hope you were carefull not to kill the gerbils.

  • The gerbils have spiritual guides, I have none so fuck em.

  • lol im glad to know that lemywinks is ok then but what about the squirells?

  • OIY!!!!Skrasson, dude, shut the fuck up about the cure, just because they do not sound exactly like the cure, they have their own style OK, so quit with shit you know fuck all about, comment me later when your balls have dropped and learn the meaning of respect, fool!!!

  • wow, amazing homemade footage. good thing the person in front row was so good with the camera! searing performance

  • En la historia del Rock, solo hay dos canciones que usan la Gaita:

1- Its a long way to the top (AC/DC)

2- Under the milky way (The Church)

    ¿Me equivoco?

  • But Disintegration came out more than a year after Starfish.

Don't get me wrong, I think Disintegration is one of the greatest albums of all time. Actually, song for song, it's probably more solid than Starfish, but Milky Way did come first first.

Anyway, The Church's Heyday and Priest=Aura are, at least IMHO, better than anything the Cure ever released.

  • One of the coolest, moodiest, most hypnotic melodies with a hook for the ages... Damn, I still tweak over this song! There was a early AM DJ "your old pal Brian!"on an Alt. radio station when this came out. At the same time every morning he played this tune as I was driving to work at like six or so. Finally someone calls in & asks him about this. He said flat out he just loved the song and would keep playing till the station made him stop!

God bless the man! God bless the artists!

  • I love this song, however, reminds me of TRB

  • Great Aussie band. Brings back memories of my youth hanging around the pub scene.

  • I heard this song in Donnie Darko which is a great film by the way. I love this song along with The Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen

  • I love the crowd singing along...great video

  • I listen to this song twice a day, going to and leaving work, on permanent rotation in my auto. I got goosebumps just knowing I'll hear it again in a couple of hours.

  • why is that?

  • I listen to this song at least twice a day, going to and from work, on permanent rotation in my car. I never get tired of it. Just the thought of hearing it again in a few hours gave me goose bumps...

  • Go see these guys on tour. They are fantastic....

  • Great Clip!!! Thank's Mate..

  • I love Marty's Chrissie Hynde impression ;)

Love these guys with a passion!

  • They all sing along. It's a sign of a great song that touches it's fans. Thank you Donny Darko for showing this to a new generation.......

  • as neil young said .Keep on aussies rockin in the Real World

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • Another great Church song:

  • Now most decent or "true" Metal is underground and new "Alternative" bands are mainstream and mostly fill the air space of most Contemporary Rock stations in the U.S. Quite the opposite of Archer, my musical preference does not include music of the Metal genre for the most part, but some of the few Metal bands I do listen to are among my favorites as are some of their songs. It doesn't matter what kind of genre an individual prefers.

  • Yes! They are touring in the US this June and early July. Just google "the Church band" and their official site should pop up. It has a list of all the dates. It's supposed to be full electric too. :-)

  • God I love this band!

  • I fell in love with this song when they played it right after Headbanger's Ball went off. Yes, a metalhead LOVES this song and very good band.

  • ....and Metallica sucks, right?

  • i´m also a metalhead and i love it too man!

  • You must be talking about the good old days of MTV showcasing alternative bands on the show 120 Minutes. That was back in a time when Alternative music had somewhat of an independent cutting edge and underground appeal. Later with the outbreak of grunge came its mediocre derivative, "Alternative Nation." It's funny how the tables have turned. Back then a lot of Metal was mainstream and the genre was at the height of its popularity.

  • this song sends me back to the 80s .. ah what an era :)

  • unbelivible song that means so much 2 me

  • This came out during a really weird period of my life and just blew me away! It still does... I would LOVE to see them live if they still tour the States! This song loses nothing with time, man, imagine how it feels to write something like this and put it out there for the ages...

    Thanks for sharing Brother, cheers!

  • Great song! Pity about the sound block on the recorded Youtube version! I think they're a band the world should be able to hear with such a great song!

  • I have not heard this song in a dog's age!

    Wonderful vid!

  • unless you lived through nine lives in cat years!!!

  • Do they still tour in the U.S.?

  • O My God! I loved this song so much when was in school :-))))))))) think it was years 1988-1989! Unfortunately this talented band not popular in Russia.
