i have a PS3 slim, and i think there's a malfunction in the DVD drive
when i put a CD in, it makes this "click click" sound and then the ejection sound (but doesn't eject), then goes again with the clicking and doesn't read it eventually
i have 2 tilt my PS3's front side upward in order 4 it 2 work and have 2 keep it tht way when it starts running the disk
hello how are you?. I'm having problem with my ps3: you can insert the disk get it out perfectly but when is time to play and see movies on the ps3 keeps thinking(dont reads it)
I've watched countless videos about the bluray drive and am sick to death of seeing ONLY 60GB drives being taken apart, could you by any chance upload or direct me to a 40 or 80 one? because the motors are far different and the arm on the bottom that connects the motor arms on each side aren't connected on the 40 drives if you move the right motor the left one doesn't move because there isn't a slot for the metal arm to fit into on the back of the left arm.
@deidara1fan5 i was thinking EXACTLY the same thing! iv got a 80gb in my shop now that im having a lot of bother with! 60gb must be the easiest, thats why everyone does tuts on them! lol
I have the PS3 slim and it reads the discs, however it won't eject or accept a disk. I have to open my system, put the cd, turn the gear until it clicks and boom it will work but won't eject. Must be alignment?
Can you help me, the alignment piece keeps like coming off the piece of plastic its ment to be in, as in you place it in and align it and it accepts discs but on eject it rips out of place and I have to re align it, its almost like its stuck and its breaking the alignment, Blu ray works fine just want to know if theres anyway to fix it Thanks,
@TheBlackBoxPSN It does sound like the laser itself is faulty. This can happen even if you're seeing light because other parts of the assembly may have failed (laser pickups, monitoring diode, weak laser, etc.)
I finally figured it out. But then I noticed that my discs weren't being read. Once I opened it back up the motor was ripped off from the wires, and I manually put the disc in my ps3 by sliding the disc through the arms in the front of the bluray that hit the switch to read the disc, then i Slide the left black arm down and it brings the right black arm up. The Laser boots up and the disc spins, but it doesn't read my disc. The Laser sometimes is red then blue at other times.
My Left arm is stuck on the gear. The teeth are still intact, and it only moves down. When I push the left arm up it simply does not move at all, just stays on the gear.
@TheBlackBoxPSN Maybe the metal arm on the bottom that ties the two arms together is misaligned. Try taking this metal arm out, and then adjusting the left arm so it's all the way up (off the gear), and the right arm so it's all the way down, and then replace the metal arm on the bottom so the studs on each end go into the holes on each of the plastic arms.
@akib4018 It's probably better for you to view the "revised emergency eject" video and see if you've got the drive aligned in the proper position. Then the "insertion drive" arms should swing without catching anything below.
When I have the left arm the way you say - so that it's not touching the gears - my PS3 can't load my disc properly at all. It'll take the disc, but since the spindle doesn't raise up, it can't spin up the disc at all. Any suggestions? For the record, my PS3 is a 60GB model.
My PS3 is having problems getting the disc in the system because it wont glide in, 2 my ps3 wont eject discs. I saw 3 little gears fall of and i dont know where they belong could you please! help me mw3 is coming out soon and i had to cancel my pre order 2 times cuz of it. It's a 80gb fat ps3. thanks!
@YourModernWarfare3 The three gears go into the "insertion drive" part that was on top of the bottom half of the loader. I have a couple of videos about how it goes back together (one for the old fat and another for the new fat)
Dude you are freaking awesome, I got stuck with the machine gun issue and thanks to you I got it back together smooth (even though the lens is busted and the replacement will not come anytime soon as there is not money near me, damn crisis). So thanks again and you get your positive vote from me.
alright man im not trying to offend you or insult you in any way. But to be honest in my opinion, the commentary is a bit slow (boring). it would be nice if you could speed up your talking tempo and get straight thru the point. No pun intended.
I wanted to thank you for this. I used this video to get my mis-aligned drive up and running like a charm! I just needed to ensure it was secured to the chassis so the bottom v-shaped part didn't pop out of alignment again.
I've followed the guide and aligned my drive, the pivot arm underneath was the problem with mine, however the drive is still not taking disks in all the way (about 4/5 of the way in) the eject mechanisim works perfectly now, any suggestions?
my left arm is totally stuck on the gear and no mater how muc pressure i put on it to push it up it will not move?? ( it will move forward but thats obviuly the wrong way because it is then totally on the gears i need help asap!! please id be very grateful for any tips :D
My left arm, or the arm connected directly to the black gear (the one that isn't supposed to be on the track of the gear when done correctly). Well, I had up to that point alright, but my ps3, whenever I move the right arm at all, the left arm doesn't move or budge with it. In fact I can move the entire right arm up and down no problem when its connected together, but the left arm stays entirely motionless. HELP!
@XRedInB1ueX My "revised emergency eject" video should help with this. It's probably a case of the pivot arm on the back disconnected from one side (assuming you have the old fat drive)
ive got a 60 gb and a got ylod. ive got it fixed but the repair guy said that the discs arnt reading??!? could it be a surge when i had the ylod that killed my bluray drive?. it doesnt sound like its working or spinning at all although it takes in discs. ppplllllllllleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaasssssse help!!!
Hi, i get the machine gun sound. The left arm is engaged with the black gear and if i try and move the left arm up it will not go any further up. It is not fully engaged with the gear but the spokes touch each other.
@04ayasin That's probably an easy fix. I made a video newer than this called "PS3 revised emergency eject" that will probably help you. The left arm should NOT be touching the black gear at all when the transport is in the "ejected" position, or it will make the machine gun noise.
@junker15 my right arm is giving resistance when its moving up and down but left arm is moving free what should i do? when i put my CD in it sucks it in till a certain point and stays there and does not go in fully what should i do????
Junker buddy please my machine has started freezing/crashing. Its a 40gb uses a kem400aaa. I replaced the laser over a year ago thanks to your help and I'm just wondering would i need to replace the laser again or could it something more sinister. Its been hard used. Games struggle to load and when/if they do I get the freezin/crashin. Any advice would be nice.
if i do exsacly what ur doing would that fix my ps3 not ejecting the disc? i mean the ps3 works just fine but it doesent eject the cd everyonce in a wile what do u recomend for that?
@MrMuertosk8 You may want to take a look at my "revised emergency eject" video for a quick rundown of everything to check if you're having loading or eject problems.
Hey I have a problem where my PS3 seems to think a disc is in the drive even though there isn't, with the blue light staying on and therefore will eject nothing and obviously won't suck in any discs either, any suggestions ? All help appreciated, thanks :)
hi, i was trying to play Dead Rising 2 when the console stopped loading the game but i could still press the PS Button and mail my friends and so on. I pressed the eject button(yes i know im an idiot) because the game would not respond and it made the eject sound but the game did not come out, so i took out the case and took the blu ray drive part and took the game out. when i put it back together i started the PS3 up again and tried to insert but got the machine gun klak klak klak
My ps3 won't take in discs like its supposed to. Like seriously not at all even if you push it in all the way nothing works. Push the eject button nothing happens. What could be wrong with it? I don't think its misaligned but could something be wrong with the motor? How do I fix it?
@YoMama844 Your data cable going from the controller board to the PS3 mainboard may have a problem. The cable itself may be defective, or it may not be connected properly. This is what to check first if the drive seems to be completely dead.
@junker15 Data cable? What does that look like? Is that like the ribbon connecting the blu ray drive itself to the ps3 when you first take the blu ray drive out? I'm confused because before I disassembled my ps3 it would suck my disc in but the PSP disc was blocking it.
Do you have like another video or something showing which part of the blu ray drive might be defective. I really need help so any help would be great. THANKS!
@junker15 oh yeah I got the ribbon taped (lots of duct tape lol I broke the clip) and the motor NOW WORKS! My ps3 now sucks in discs.
However, two gears fell out and I don't know where they belong. What model ps3 do you have? If its not the 80gb 2usb port model do you have a video or know a video that can help me put the gears where they belong. I'm SO CLOSE to fixing my ps3 everything works fine but the gears need to be right so it can suck in blu ray discs all the way to the laser lol.
@YoMama844 I have a "disc insertion drive" and "New PS3 Fat disc insertion drive (part 2)" video that probably will help. The first one was from my old PS3 and the second one is from my newer one with the other type of optical drive.
@junker15 Do they give like a good focused look on the ps3 disc drive. I'm SOOOOO close to fixing my ps3 I just need to put the gears in place. Then it should be working right?
@junker15 well thanks to you I got my gears put in properly. Ribbon cable works fine.
Now another problem emerges.............. SIGH................... ps3 sucks in discs fine but now IDK why but my ps3 seems to not know a disc is there even if it is in COMPLETELY and PROPERLY. Whats wrong with that? Do you have a video on that I wanna play some black ops SO BAD especially after the PSN outage.
@junker15 well i think my data cable is completely busted
I'm thinking of sending it to Sony at this point. Will they still fix it for me even if I disassembled it. My warranty is already voided anyway since it's been over a year. How much is it for service?
@YoMama844 I think they still charge $150 for this service. I believe they do take out-of-warranty repairs. If you have the money, I would almost suggest you get a NEW PS3 Slim instead because you're probably going to have less of a problem with that going forward.
@junker15 dude i'm so FUCKING PISSED RIGHT NOW. lol I thank you so much for your help but my ps3 is broken............... :( first psn outage now this............................
I called them and they said that they won't take it in for service since I tampered with it. LOL WTF is that true? If it is then what do you think I should do now. I'm so close to fixing my ps3 but the data cable is like busted or something.
@hpsaucelovesyourmom yeah well I called Sony and they won't fix it for me since i took it apart to try and fix it. My cable is busted.
I'm going to warn you now don't make the same mistake I did. Be VERY CAREFUL with the tape. My tape took some of the cable off and now it's busted. BE CAREFUL you will regret this just like me lol. I would take it to a local trustworthy repair shop that can get it fixed for you since you already opened your ps3. Thats what i'm doing. Good luck to you.
@Quanbigdog It should work if they're the same type of drive (the connections between the drive with KEM-400AAA transport and KEM-410ACA transport are different and incompatible) and if you transfer the controller board from the original drive to the new drive. You need the original controller board because the PS3 has a unique drive key per drive.
hey i gotta serious problem. I bought a ps3 off of ebay and it wasnt reading disks. i changed the laser with a brand new one and its still not reading. WHATS THE PROBLEM?
hey man,i think i figured out my problem, my loader isnt clipped in right, it is clipped in on the right hand side, but the left side is slanted up, and is not level, even when it is screwed in, ive taken off the loader and checked it but it seems fine to me, any suggestions?
okay my ps3 got the yellow light of death while i was in gameplay and i had a disc in. The loader froze in the position the ps3 turned off in. how do i fix the lever so that way they all go back to the right positioning
You helped me emensely , I don't understand why anyone would not like this video . You've done such a great job not only fixing the problem , but explaining the wrong things to do as well and why . Great teacher . Thanks agiain . ---Best tutorial I've seen yet---
Should the spindle on the blu ray drive have a little give to it if you push it or should it be solid? When the disc spins there seems to wobble and a rubbing/grinding sound when a disc would try to be read. I pinpointed the sound to the disc edge and two black guards on either side of the deck. I removed the guards just to see and still vibration and a different rub spot on a drive loader roller. Is this common? Is there a fix or is it new deck time? Any help would be appreciated.
dude i opened my laser and found out that the disc won't spin, so what should i do, what's wrong, is it just the motor or should i buy a laser replacement, also when i turn it on the lens emits the blue ray
from startup it thinks it has a disc inside it ( the blue light is on ) you insert a disc and it pulls it off you, takes the disc in but spits it straight back out :( and when its spits it out the blue LED continues flashing for about 10secs, in which time i cannot feed the disc back in or anything. Please get back to me soon because its annoying me now, ive had it apart several times, thanks.
@YRAStabby Dude I feel ya. I have the 60GB PS3 which i bought in 2007 and paid $600 plus tax for. Now, just 4 years laters, the stupid POS blu ray drive decides to die. Obviously im not gonna pay Sony 150 bucks just for them to look at it and I decided to take it apart and see what I could do. Well now everything is worse, before the discs would go in and the PS3 wouldnt read them, but now they wont even go in. I feel like throwing my PS3 out the window. Im extremely disappointed in Sony.
@Norocmorth The main data cable can be obtained separately from the rest of the drive. Replacing this cable with a new one could fix the problem. Also, before replacing the cable, check that the three switches on the small board by the right arm are all working. If the switches are broken, this could affect the ability to insert a disc as the system thinks there's one inside (or can't tell that one's being inserted).
Hi. I've tried a few things and it still doesn't work, cleaned the lens, checked the alignment, the continuity on both the power and data cables, and everything seems to be ok, I noticed that the disc does not spin at all, do you have any idea why?, do i need to change the laser module? and, can it be any laser found on ebay? sorry about so many questions, hope you can help me!
Hi and thank you very much for your PS3 disassembling/reassembling videos. They are shot good. And even don't have any annoying music in background, hehe. Anyway, they've been a great help to me. Now I just figured out that I reassembled my bd-drive wrong. Alltho' I have a hunch it won't work after assembling it right, but that's an another story and I'll try to figure it out then.
hey i have a problem with a ps3 that i have.....my game wont eject out the ps3 nither does it want to read any disk. so if i open it up and fix the loader alignment do you think that the problem would be fixed?
Story time! Two years ago, my 80GB Backwards compatible PS3 went kaboom. I had to realign the laser. I messed up. We bought a new PS3, a shitty slim. My point? I watched this video and saw the part about taking the motor out. So I tried it, and guess what? IT FUCKING WORKED. I love you. I love you the way I love my old newly working PS3. I want you to live happy, win the lottery, have a family! Anything and everything good!
@TrailersOfTheDecade Could be that the big data cable going to the mainboard has a problem, or it could be that the drive just isn't getting power. If you've had the system apart previously, I'd check the data cable first.
My left arm does not have a pocket for the pivot arm in the back to fit into. Doesn't look like anything broke off or anything. Not really sure how it should be lined up.
@slappypappy03 Nothing broke and you're not making a mistake; Sony designed the new fat PS3 drive more cheaply (if you can believe that), and not only left one of the pockets off, but that drive now requires the metal back to be installed to run the drive properly since that supports the pivot arm.
My friend, I have a PS3 Slim and when I load a disc, it won't read it and it start making clicking, or ticking, whatever, noises... What can it be?? What should I do!?? THANK YOU!
@rafanoutube I don't have any PS3 Slim hardware available, so it's just my best guess, but this really sounds like the laser has given out on you. This is especially likely if you insert the disc and don't hear it spin up.
@junker15 Hey, man. Thank you so much for your prompt answer! I'm really sad, because this is the 2nd PS3 I buy, and I don't live in the US (it's way cheaper there). Man, this Ps3 Slim isn't 11 months old, and I don't know what to do. It seems the disc is spinning. The blu-ray driver did that once, then it worked, now it just won't work... :( After trying to read the disc, it makes a noise (the same noise it makes when it's unloading a disc), and the ticking continues and stops later. :(
@junker15 So, man, here is a video with the noises, including when the console makes the ejecting noises... PLease, take a look and tell me your thoughts! /watch?v=zTwMtFV8KlQ
@junker15 Man, I'm sorry to bother you so much! I just put a DVD in my PS3 and it worked. Then I put GOW3 and now it's reading it... I don't get it. It doesn't work, then it works. :(
Thank you thank you thank you for your videos, you saved another ps3! Keep up the great work! now im back off to play GT5 with my now working ps3 muhahah!
hey urm well you know the silver arm thing that has the studs on? well it will only go into the pocket of the left arm, the one not near the cogs, and it seems that there is no pocket for the other arm? any help please.
junker my ps3 works fine when i get 2 were u can take off the little white plastic circle but when i put everything togther its works at first then it stops evenually is there anything really special about that piece or about anything or piece round it id like 2 watch ur video but im pretty far from a computer rite now nd cant veiw it on my phone it works jus fine when its open
thank you so much. i was about to throw my ps3 away after cleaning the laser because i couldnt get the disc to load correctly but this video was amazing.
I just fixed the buddies one there. It had a differand drive but this video helped to fix it with no probs. The boomarang shaped thing was not on correctly very flimsey. Cheers mate.
I turned mine on and it makes a weird noise. The lights flash and the laser moves but the the whole thing is in the down position. I did everything you did but i cant figure out whats wrong! i know its not the motor because i took it out and the noise stops. and it's not the laser because i just replaced it. Can you help me? I made a video about it. Any help at all would be great!
Wanted to give thanks. My 2-yr old stuck 3 additional discs in mine when it already had one in it, so it made a total of four discs in it. I found this video and found it very useful, also seen others, though I think this was the better one.
I'd like to thank you for your precious help. I replaced a blu ray drive on PS3 but I had problem with alignment and your video helped me to solve it. Thank you very much
Any advice? I have an 80GB, replaced the laser module, but must have messed up the reassembly. It pulls a disc in, but the motor keeps pulling after its all the way in, and it still doesn't see the disc. Eject works fine, though.
can you please do a viseo explaining how to repair the 40 gig models disk loader which does not have the rubber band on the front of the disk or the pink cogs
also, i cannot get the loading motor/servo to work, ive tried manually pushing both buttons with top off/ps on , to no avail, even tried it so with the servo out of the gears to actually look at the worm gear , and its not turning, but since my drive is slightly different than the one in the video i cannot be sure its a problem with disc sensor or the control board or what, im still playing games , but having to take the top off to switch games is a tedium, but it works for the time being
i have the same result as letmeanpeople , my blue ray drive seems slightly different from the one in the video (80gb fatty) , no disc sensor as far as i can see, and the front loading arms only gear on one side, no screw either, just a snap tab holding that together, drive reads fine if i manually load them with top off, but it thinks it has a disc inside even if i put it together in the unloaded position , but all the videos i see so far point to the disc sensor with mine doesnt have
Thanks a million dude! Was struggling like hell to make that thing work again, but now its like a clockwork, and with the lens all cleaned and stuff im finally ready to play again :)
i put the disc in but it wont suck (but it can fully go through) it in so i took it out. i tried ejecting without a disk, and it doesnt give the three beeps like it does when the drive has no disk, it gives one or two flashes and plastic sounds like its trying to eject a disk. i think it thinks theres a disk inside. please help :D
Wow thank you so much for posting. I messed with the mechanism for hours and I swore i had done everything wrong trying to understand it. It was simply the peg on the lever was not in the slot on the gear side. Who knows how it popped out. Then again who knows how sony manages to make a drive that directs dust and debris so well onto the laser!
thank you this vid help me alot=DDDDD

I finally figured it out. But then I noticed that my discs weren't being read. Once I opened it back up the motor was ripped off from the wires, and I manually put the disc in my ps3 by sliding the disc through the arms in the front of the bluray that hit the switch to read the disc, then i Slide the left black arm down and it brings the right black arm up. @TheBlackBoxPSN Maybe the metal arm on the bottom that ties the two arms together is misaligned. Try taking this metal arm out, and then adjusting the left arm so it's all the way up (off the gear), and the right arm so it's all the way down, and then replace the metal arm on the bottom so the studs on each end go into the holes on each of the plastic arms.

what do i do to the blu ray drive if my ps3 is not spinning the discs?
IRhysowwwwww 6 months ago
My left arm, or the arm connected directly to the black gear (the one that isn't supposed to be on the track of the gear when done correctly). Well, I had up to that point alright, but my ps3, whenever I move the right arm at all, the left arm doesn't move or budge with it. In fact I can move the entire right arm up and down no problem when its connected together, but the left arm stays entirely motionless. HELP!
XRedInB1ueX 7 months ago
@XRedInB1ueX My "revised emergency eject" video should help with this. It's probably a case of the pivot arm on the back disconnected from one side (assuming you have the old fat drive)

Hi, i get the machine gun sound. The left arm is engaged with the black gear and if i try and move the left arm up it will not go any further up. It is not fully engaged with the gear but the spokes touch each other.
04ayasin 7 months ago
@04ayasin That's probably an easy fix. I made a video newer than this called "PS3 revised emergency eject" that will probably help you. The left arm should NOT be touching the black gear at all when the transport is in the "ejected" position, or it will make the machine gun noise.

I pressed the eject button(yes i know im an idiot) because the game would not respond and it made the eject sound but the game did not come out, so i took out the case and took the blu ray drive part and took the game out. when i put it back together i started the PS3 up again and tried to insert but got the machine gun klak klak klak

PLZ HELP!
My ps3 won't take in discs like its supposed to. Like seriously not at all even if you push it in all the way nothing works. Push the eject button nothing happens. What could be wrong with it? I don't think its misaligned but could something be wrong with the motor? How do I fix it?
YoMama844 9 months ago
@YoMama844 Your data cable going from the controller board to the PS3 mainboard may have a problem. The cable itself may be defective, or it may not be connected properly. This is what to check first if the drive seems to be completely dead.
junker15 9 months ago
@junker15 Data cable? What does that look like? Is that like the ribbon connecting the blu ray drive itself to the ps3 when you first take the blu ray drive out? I'm confused because before I disassembled my ps3 it would suck my disc in but the PSP disc was blocking it.
Do you have like another video or something showing which part of the blu ray drive might be defective. I really need help so any help would be great. THANKS!
YoMama844 9 months ago
@junker15 oh yeah I got the ribbon taped (lots of duct tape lol I broke the clip) and the motor NOW WORKS! My ps3 now sucks in discs.
However, two gears fell out and I don't know where they belong. What model ps3 do you have? If its not the 80gb 2usb port model do you have a video or know a video that can help me put the gears where they belong. I'm SO CLOSE to fixing my ps3 everything works fine but the gears need to be right so it can suck in blu ray discs all the way to the laser lol.
YoMama844 9 months ago
@YoMama844 I have a "disc insertion drive" and "New PS3 Fat disc insertion drive (part 2)" video that probably will help. The first one was from my old PS3 and the second one is from my newer one with the other type of optical drive.
junker15 9 months ago
@junker15 Do they give like a good focused look on the ps3 disc drive. I'm SOOOOO close to fixing my ps3 I just need to put the gears in place. Then it should be working right?
YoMama844 9 months ago
@junker15 well thanks to you I got my gears put in properly. Ribbon cable works fine.
Now another problem emerges.............. SIGH................... ps3 sucks in discs fine but now IDK why but my ps3 seems to not know a disc is there even if it is in COMPLETELY and PROPERLY. Whats wrong with that? Do you have a video on that I wanna play some black ops SO BAD especially after the PSN outage.
YoMama844 9 months ago
@junker15 well i think my data cable is completely busted
I'm thinking of sending it to Sony at this point. Will they still fix it for me even if I disassembled it. My warranty is already voided anyway since it's been over a year. How much is it for service?
YoMama844 9 months ago
@YoMama844 I think they still charge $150 for this service. I believe they do take out-of-warranty repairs. If you have the money, I would almost suggest you get a NEW PS3 Slim instead because you're probably going to have less of a problem with that going forward.
junker15 9 months ago
@junker15 dude i'm so FUCKING PISSED RIGHT NOW. lol I thank you so much for your help but my ps3 is broken............... :( first psn outage now this............................
I called them and they said that they won't take it in for service since I tampered with it. LOL WTF is that true? If it is then what do you think I should do now. I'm so close to fixing my ps3 but the data cable is like busted or something.
What should I do?
YoMama844 9 months ago
@YoMama844 i have the exact same problem and my ribbon cable is also stuck down with tape. Gunna try and tape it down more now.
hpsaucelovesyourmom 9 months ago
@hpsaucelovesyourmom yeah well I called Sony and they won't fix it for me since i took it apart to try and fix it. My cable is busted.
I'm going to warn you now don't make the same mistake I did. Be VERY CAREFUL with the tape. My tape took some of the cable off and now it's busted. BE CAREFUL you will regret this just like me lol. I would take it to a local trustworthy repair shop that can get it fixed for you since you already opened your ps3. Thats what i'm doing. Good luck to you.

I GOTTA ANOTHER ? WOULD A CECHA01 BLURAY DRIVE WORK IN CECHGO1 IF NOT WHY?
Quanbigdog 9 months ago
@Quanbigdog It should work if they're the same type of drive (the connections between the drive with KEM-400AAA transport and KEM-410ACA transport are different and incompatible) and if you transfer the controller board from the original drive to the new drive. You need the original controller board because the PS3 has a unique drive key per drive.

Any help would be appreciated.
mattie3641 1 year ago
dude i opened my laser and found out that the disc won't spin, so what should i do, what's wrong, is it just the motor or should i buy a laser replacement, also when i turn it on the lens emits the blue ray
rasta4real 1 year ago
hi ive got a new problem :/
from startup it thinks it has a disc inside it ( the blue light is on ) you insert a disc and it pulls it off you, takes the disc in but spits it straight back out :( and when its spits it out the blue LED continues flashing for about 10secs, in which time i cannot feed the disc back in or anything.

VideoGameExplorers 1 year ago
@VideoGameExplorers That sounds like the data cable is damaged in some way. That's usually the case when nothing happens.
junker15 1 year ago
@junker15 Which one is the data cable? Is it the ribbon cable that comes from underneath or the one that plugs into the side?
VideoGameExplorers 1 year ago
@VideoGameExplorers It's the big cable that goes underneath and attaches to the mainboard
junker15 1 year ago
@junker15 if it is damaged how do u fix it? cause my ps3 wont inject disks and wont spin aswell
Norocmorth 11 months ago
@Norocmorth The main data cable can be obtained separately from the rest of the drive. Replacing this cable with a new one could fix the problem. Also, before replacing the cable, check that the three switches on the small board by the right arm are all working. If the switches are broken, this could affect the ability to insert a disc as the system thinks there's one inside (or can't tell that one's being inserted).
junker15 11 months ago
@junker15 what three switches?

Hi ,i got a very big problem ... when i tty to insert a disc it doesnt get in, Its like the blu ray drive is dead... what do u think is the problem ?
TrailersOfTheDecade 1 year ago
@TrailersOfTheDecade Could be that the big data cable going to the mainboard has a problem, or it could be that the drive just isn't getting power. If you've had the system apart previously, I'd check the data cable first.

My left arm does not have a pocket for the pivot arm in the back to fit into. Doesn't look like anything broke off or anything. Not really sure how it should be lined up.
slappypappy03 1 year ago
@slappypappy03 Nothing broke and you're not making a mistake; Sony designed the new fat PS3 drive more cheaply (if you can believe that), and not only left one of the pockets off, but that drive now requires the metal back to be installed to run the drive properly since that supports the pivot arm.

My friend, I have a PS3 Slim and when I load a disc, it won't read it and it start making clicking, or ticking, whatever, noises... What can it be?? What should I do!?? THANK YOU!
rafanoutube 1 year ago
@rafanoutube I don't have any PS3 Slim hardware available, so it's just my best guess, but this really sounds like the laser has given out on you. This is especially likely if you insert the disc and don't hear it spin up.
junker15 1 year ago
@junker15 Hey, man. Thank you so much for your prompt answer! I'm really sad, because this is the 2nd PS3 I buy, and I don't live in the US (it's way cheaper there). Man, this Ps3 Slim isn't 11 months old, and I don't know what to do. It seems the disc is spinning. The blu-ray driver did that once, then it worked, now it just won't work... :( After trying to read the disc, it makes a noise (the same noise it makes when it's unloading a disc), and the ticking continues and stops later. :(

also, i cannot get the loading motor/servo to work, ive tried manually pushing both buttons with top off/ps on , to no avail, even tried it so with the servo out of the gears to actually look at the worm gear , and its not turning, but since my drive is slightly different than the one in the video i cannot be sure its a problem with disc sensor or the control board or what, im still playing games , but having to take the top off to switch games is a tedium, but it works for the time being
